On a protected hillside behind Jenner, this home offers incredible views of the river and the ocean. Excellent stargazing can be viewed from the upper deck (bring binoculars and/or telescope). A short walk to the ocean reveals resplendent wildlife including a seal rookery, blue herons, pelicans, seagulls, cormorants, sandpipers, ospreys, snowy egrets, hummingbirds, and many more.

This beach house offers 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. The master bedroom features a Queen bed and en suite bathroom. The second bedroom offers a Queen bed and the third offers a Queen bed. These bedrooms share a bathroom. The fourth bedroom offers 2 Twin beds, and has a shared bathroom down the hall. If needed, a double futon is provided in the sunroom. Two decks provide space for a barbecue and a large hot tub. The main living area on the upper floor is a spacious sunny area with connecting living room, sunroom (family room) and fully equipped kitchen. All of these rooms offer incredible views of the Russian River estuary. The living room features a stone fireplace. A direct supply of firewood through a special built-in wood cupboard.

Located in the quiet and quaint village of Jenner, Castle Crag is less than two hours north of San Francisco. It has magnificent views of the river valley, estuary and river's entrance to the ocean. As the village is somewhat sheltered from ocean breezes, pleasantly warm weather is the typical climate for most of the year, with occasional sea mists. For those interested in visiting wine county, this home is only a 30 minute beautiful drive along the river to the Korbel Champagne vineyards. There are excellent restaurants all along the river and the coastline between Bodega and Jenner. Swimming, surfing and sailing are 15 minutes south at Salmon Creek and Bodega (made famous in the Hitchcock movie The Birds. Excellent hiking trails and horseback riding are only minutes away, as well as canoeing and rafting on the Russian River.

Know Before you Book:

Security Deposit vs. Damage Protection:

When you make your reservation, you will automatically be assigned a security deposit, plus a $30 non refundable processing fee.

The alternative to the large deposit and processing fee is the damage protection program, which is $49 and covers up to $3000 in accidental damages. The damage protection program is an insurance policy. The $49 is not refundable, but you’d be covered if you accidentally broke a wine glass…a lamp…or if someone knocked over something major, like the television. There is no processing fee associated with the damage protection program.

If you would prefer the damage protection program, please include a note with your reservation. If you do not include a note, we do contact all guests before charging the security deposit and processing fee in order to confirm your preference.

Office Hours and Booking Information:

Our office is open from 9 am to 5 pm every day, excluding major holidays.

After making a booking and confirming their security deposit vs. damage protection preference, guests will be sent arrival instructions and a contract with our terms in detail to sign and return. You will be contacted within 24 hours of making your reservation.

No same-day reservations past 2 pm. It should not happen, but in case the system is allowing you to book for same-day arrival and it is after 2 pm, please reach out to us. If it is after 5 pm, please do not complete your reservation; no one will be available to process your reservation and prepare for your arrival.

Maximum Occupancy and Quiet Hours:

The maximum occupancy at Castle Crag is 10. Quiet hours are from 10:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. Outdoor amplified sound is prohibited at any time.


On-site parking is permitted for a maximum of 4 vehicles. RVs, trailers and campers are prohibited, per the Sonoma County Vacation Rental Ordinance.

Wireless Internet:

Castle Crag has a limited wireless internet service. Because of the rural location, typical services like cable and DSL are not available. Instead, Castle Crag uses Excede Internet, which works well for email, text messaging and internet browsing, but is not well-suited for streaming or other internet uses that consume large amounts of data. For a long time Castle Crag was unable to provide any internet service, so we are very pleased to offer guests this option and welcome you to use the internet during your stay.

About Russian River Vacation Homes

We are Russian River Vacation Homes, a part of D&G Equity Management, Inc., a family owned and locally owned/operated property management company.

Our Story:

In 1980, D&G founders and owners Michael and Patty saw a need in the area for habitable, affordable housing. At that time, many of the little cabins along the Russian River, originally built as summer cabins, were unsuitable for year-round occupancy. D&G assisted property owners with fixing up and renting their cabins. As the largest property management company in western Sonoma County, D&G Equity Management continues to be a staple in the Russian River community.

Russian River Vacation Homes is an off-shoot of D&G. One fine day in 1985, Michael's client, Bob, asked "Hey Mike, can you rent my cabin out just for the week or weekend instead of by the month?" Michael said "Sure!" and Russian River Vacation Homes was born. As renting vacation rentals became more popular, Russian River Vacation Homes grew into a full-time business with its own office. Today, Russian River Vacation Homes professionally manages over 60 high-quality vacation rentals.

Beautiful setting! Outstanding views.

Very comfortable home. We lived the privacy and quiet. Driveway a bit trucky to maneuver, but once you get the hang of it, no problem. Shop before you get there as grocery shopping is very limited. Goat Rock beach is a must see--go on your first day because you WILL want to go back with a picnic lunch.

Beautiful river and ocean views- peaceful.

Spacious 4 bedroom home with a well appointed kitchen and three bathrooms. Jenner is a beautiful town, with outdoor river opportunities, and wonderful drives north and south to coastal destinations, and east to the wine country. Wonderful family get away!

Know what to expect and you'll have a great trip!

I've gone back and forth on this review. I had to go with 3 stars, even though we had a great time in this house, because it needs a lot of TLC from the owners and it's pretty clearly not on their priority list. The pots and pans are wharped and won't sit on the flat top stove. Tomales Bay is around the corner, but the only oyster shucker in the house is a contraption from the fifties that doesn't work. There are tons of flashlights though! The deck is kind of falling apart and the furniture is definitely falling apart. Don't plan on using the grill. Half of the grates are corroded. The other half are missing. For future renters, every bit of information you need is in the reviews and the description. Do not expect anything more. The driveway is indeed frightening (but if I can make it, anyone can!) The views are spectacular. The house is old. And well worn. I'm pretty sure the Golden Girls had some of the same furniture. We didn't have a problem with the wifi/satellite signal at the house, but there's no signal anywhere else in the area so download the maps you need before leaving the house. That is all part of the charm of this town, though. Jenner is a sleepy little town where everything is slow and behind by a few decades. If you can accept that, you'll enjoy your stay. We kayaked the Russian River. We hiked the redwoods at Armstrong. We ate fish and chips in Bodega Bay. We saw seals and fabulous sunsets. It is a beautiful area of California and we all appreciated our location.

The property managers are super easy to deal with and very responsive. I would highly suggest to them that they remove all of the nitpicky signs throughout the house. Telling me not to wear shoes on the thread bare and heavily stained blue carpet from the sixties only tells me that the owners don't want to put any money into the house, not that it needs to be maintained.

Gorgeous Views, Lots of Space

We had a party of 10 over New Year Weekend and we truly enjoyed Castle Craig. There was plenty of space to spread out, with enough room to find quiet space if one needed. The views from every room were breathtaking; we enjoyed sitting at the patio table on the deck in the mornings and having coffee. Waking up to the view of the sunrising over the river, from the lower bedroom, was a wonderful way to bring in the new year. We loved being able to use the hot tub. And we used the fireplace every night, which made the house warm and cozy. We'd definitely stay here again!

Jenner is set along the Pacific coastline. The transition to the coastal environment begins around Duncan's Mills and completes at the river's last bend before flowing into the ocean. Jenner has 3 restaurants with river and ocean views and unique gift shops. Jenner is a short drive from several spectacular cliffs and accessible beaches including Goat Rock State Park.

The easiest coast beach access is at the south side of the river's mouth at Goat Rock. Take Highway One south of Jenner until you take a right onto Goat Rock Road after crossing the Russian River and heading up a bit of a hill. To access the beach on the north side of the mouth you have to hike down the cliffs (there are trails but they are steep).

Folks love the river's mouth! This is the intersection of the river and coast ecosystems. Consider renting a kayak to explore the estuary. During seal pupping season when you head towards the mouth you can see the seals swimming along next to you. Enjoy the ocean breezes!

    DAMAGE PROTECTION: Guests choose between a $49 Vacation Rental Damage Protection Fee and a $1000 Refundable Security Deposit. A $30 Processing Fee is added to reservations with the Security Deposit option. The Vacation Rental Damage Protection is strongly recommended and is the option most guests choose. It covers up to $3000 of accidental damage and can be used for many common 'damages,' such as an excessively dirty hot tub or pet-related damage.

    CHOOSING OPTIONAL FEES: If you book through VRBO/HomeAway, both Damage Protection options and the Optional Travel Insurance show in the rates. State your preference in the comments section of the reservation and we will adjust the rates before processing payment. If no preference is stated, we will contact you prior to processing payment.
  • When a reservation is received, we process payment and send an email confirmation within 24 hours or less. Confirmed reservations are final.

    -Two night minimum October to Memorial Day Weekend (holidays have a higher night minimum)
    -Three night minimum Memorial Day Weekend through late June, and September
