Why Greg Burks chose Tennessee

A piece of history. One room schoolhouse from 1927. Pictues, grade book, and student information cards were found. Fort Henry school house was originally at Fort Henry in Stewart County. When the TVA flooded the land the school was moved. Articles and pictures of Sally Martin, a teacher there for 20 years, is on the cork board. The original chalk board, flooring, walls, and cloak rooms need to be experienced by all!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We (two sisters/mothers) stayed with our 4 children (age 10 to 1). We kept our vacation destination a secret from the older kids, only saying they would be going to "summer school". We appreciated the full kitchen, grill and table on the deck to cook and eat "at home". We also enjoyed the "old school" (per our children) video gaming system (we moms won by the way)! The owner Greg was more than prompt to answer questions and help with any of our needs.

Awesome little retreat

Great get away. Relaxing but close enough to stores for needed items. Pantry well stocked, actually brought more than we needed. Weather was perfect. Thanks for making it simple.

My wife and I stayed at Fort Henry to celebrate our anniversary. It was clean, comfortable and had so much character with the historical touches! Not only would I recommend this place, my family and I will likely stay here again if possible! It's an awesome place at a great value! We would definitely pay more for the pleasure of staying at the Fort Henry Schoolhouse!!!

Relaxing time away

  • 5 of 5

Very good communication from the owner. Always responded very quickly via text or email. Thanks! The Schoolhouse was really neat. Family of three - two adults, one 10-year-old stayed for five nights. Seemed like a very safe area. We liked the open-room style of the schoolhouse. Everything was clean and the space worked out well for us. Plenty to do on rainy days (we had several) from the pool table, to kids games, movies and books or reading about the schoolhouse history scattered around the house. If you're fishing, it is minutes from several boat ramps, gas and ice. While we didn't fish during this trip, my husband liked that option. It is close to the main road, but while inside you cannot hear the traffic as it's tucked back into a corner. Thanks for a very relaxing time away!

This place is cool!

  • 5 of 5

Upon driving up to the place, we weren't sure if it was for us. After walking inside, we didn't want to leave! There are so many fun games inside to play with the kids, beautiful atmosphere, decor, etc.

This is not a luxury cabin for the high-class taste, but this was exactly what we wanted in a family vacation to go explore the country. I will definitely plan another vacation route to accommodate spending another couple nights here.

What a neat place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

Wow! This place was so cool! The pictures just don't do it justice, it is even cuter in person! Obviously, it is not fancy. But super charming, cozy, beautifully decorated, and awesome to feel like you're staying in a little museum! We especially appreciated how well-equipped it was, how comfy the beds were, and our family all had a great time playing bingo and pool. This is a place you've just got to see, and the price is so reasonable. Thanks also for letting us bring our pups!
