About the property

Loft Two bedroom cottage with loft nestled in private area on the AuTrain River

Conveniently located in the heart of the upper peninsula just minutes from Pictured Rocks, Lake Superior, dozens of waterfalls and endless outdoor activities and adventures. My Cottages are located in a private association that is quiet and beautiful. There is about a 100 yards of river frontage to enjoy and relax next to. Cottages range from one bedroom to 4 bedrooms and can accommodate from one to 10 guests. Each Cottage has all amenities included like towels, linens and cooking supplies.

The Loft Cottage is very old, it is a mixture of old log and pine interior. It is an open concept with cathedral ceiling and a nice sized loft. There is plenty of space and it easily accomodates 2-8 guests. This cottage is generally the most favored due to it's size and character. The front porch is big and it overlooks the river and has the best view of them all.

Included in your stay is a gas grill with propane, a canoe with all necessary paddles and life vests and WiFi. Launching of the canoe is on site and shuttle service is available. A fishing boat w/motor and kayaks are available to you on site for a discounted rate. Mooring your own boat is a possibility, contact me for details.

The Autrain River provides excellent swimming, and canoeing as well as simple relaxation as it winds 7 miles through the Hiawatha National Forest. Further down river puts you into Lake Superior and quite possibly the best beach on all of Lake Superior. Up river is the beautiful Autrain Lake which provides a wonderful place to enjoy water sports, fishing or just a relaxing cruise. Bass, Walleye or Pike are your most commonly fished.

Pictured Rocks Cruise is only 12 miles away and there are over a dozen waterfalls within a 30 mile radius. The National Lakeshore provides days worth of outdoor activities. I have seen nearly everything in this area and am a great resource during your stay. I will meet with you when you are and give you advice about the area and things you will enjoy during your vacation.

About Cory Cole

I am a wealth of knowledge when it comes to exploring our area, I am an avid outdoors-man, I camp, hike, bike, ski, snowshoe, ATV, motorcycle, snowmobile and Jeep nearly the entire U.P. and if you have heard of it, chances are I've been there, or done that. I also know some places 'off the radar' if you are looking to get away from the tourist areas. Just ask, I'll be happy to give you advice.

Why Cory Cole chose Upper Peninsula Michigan

I was a transplant to this area during high school years ago and left then came back. I couldn't stay away forever, this area is unlike any other. Sure there are beautiful places all over the country, but no matter where you are from, this place is special beyond words... This cottage is part of a private association with it's own river frontage. The property is the best on the river, it has a beautiful view, clean water with sandy bottom and plenty of space to relax. There are 10 cottages on this property (it was an old resort) I own/manage 7 of them for vacation rentals. I purchased these cottages with the intention of providing people a great place to stay, and the opportunity to enjoy our beautiful area. Overall, if someone doesn't enjoy staying here, it would be a first.

What makes this cottage unique

It is within minutes of Lake Superior, one of the best beaches in all of Michigan, the Pictured Rocks, dozens of waterfalls, hundreds of miles of hiking trails, biking trails and ATV/snowmobiling trails. AuTrain lake is accessible by boat right from the cottages and has tons of opportunities.

Great Cabin and Host

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was clean and cozy. The porch looks right at the river not far away. Nice grill for cooking out and really comfortable beds! Cable and wifi was an unexpected touch. Cory was very helpful and very friendly. Top notch!

Quiet and Relaxing

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was perfect. It was very clean and had all the amenities needed for our comfort. It included a gas grill and all kitchen utensils, dishes and seasonings. We prepared most of our meals and ate at the cabin. All we had to do was make a trip to the grocery store. Everything was there for our needs. The cabin is right on the Au Train River. We sat on the front porch and enjoyed the peace and quiet. We took the canoe up river to Lake Au Train and spent the day fishing. The bed was comfortable with extra blankets available, if we needed them. It was only a 10 minute drive from Pictured Rocks. We will be back.

Relaxing River Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Looking for a quiet place on water, pet friendly, and at a reasonable cost, we found that in the Au Train River Cottage. We rented kayaks half way through the week, but wished we had done so earlier! We found going up river (although against the current) to the lake was the best. Paddling around Lake Au Train, then riding with the current back to the cabin was great and we couldn't get enough of it. Cory was very helpful in our sight seeing of local waterfalls and other places to visit (as well as which to avoid!). And the dogs loved romping in Lake Superior, just a mile or so up the road. The only negatives were the U.P. state bird (mosquitoes) and cell phone service (lack of). Neither of which detracted from an excellent stay on the river. We will be back!

A gem on the river

  • 5 of 5

This place well exceeded my expectations. Clean, comfortable and an ideal location. Close to Munising yet quiet and relaxing on the Autrain river and close to Lake Superior, waterfalls and wildlife. Cory (the owner) was a wealth of information for things to do locally and directed us to some of the hidden gems in the UP. We will be back!

Beautiful view and great access

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was a surprising and amazing find along the he AuTrain River. Great for families or large parties. Quick drive to Pictured Rocks NP and seashore. The cabin is well appointed and the kitchen is great if you're looking to cook family meals. Canoe on the premises and the river is just a few feet away. Chase sand cranes and river otters all the way to Superior. Experience the UP in style.
