Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday apartment in Red Hook - Fox Den, Lake Front Studio Apt

Large New Studio, Sleeps 2, French Doors to Private Patio, On 275' Lake Frontage

Come spend the fall in the Hudson Valley. Enjoy the sights & sounds of the country, see it's beautiful foliage, and with all the comforts of home. Fresh flowers and home baked cookies await your arrival. The Fox Den was designed with couples or a single in mind. Sorry, we cannot accommodate children or pets.

How about spending a romantic and cozy weekend in front of a warm fireplace, or perhaps to get lost in a good book on your private patio, overlooking the lake. You have found your perfect, private retreat, a place to relax and enjoy the quiet. We are on 20 acres of unspoiled woodlands, walking trails, pretty cottage gardens, as well as 275' of lake frontage.

We are on a private lake, motor boats are not permitted, allowing you to enjoy kayaking, paddle boating, fishing, or just floating around to your hearts content. (Boating season is May 1st - September 30th.) We have lounges by the lake, and a roomy hammock for two for swaying in the country air.

We have a pair of swans that visit every summer. Mallards, beavers, painted turtles, trout & small mouth bass, call this lake home. There are red fox, & deer (twin fawns are not that unusual). There are red tailed hawks & owls, beautiful north eastern birds and if you're lucky, you'll see an American bald eagle.

The Fox Den is decorated with our guests in mind, comfortable, with plenty of natural sunlight. A fully equipped kitchen with a full size oven & refrigerator. We also provide coffee & tea. A luxurious queen size bed with a lake view, and a private bath (towels are provided for both bath and lake). A stone patio, all to yourselves, with a gas grill, overlooking your private path to the lake. Your privacy is paramount to us (we respect that you are here for some peace & quiet).

If you want to drive about and see the countryside, there are many interesting destinations to discover, and most are close by. Antiquing, wineries, glorious estates, beautiful gardens, horseback riding, & delicious restaurants of all kinds. (The Culinary Institute is located in the heart of the Hudson Valley.) Bard college, the Richard B. Fisher Performing Arts Ctr., The Omega Institute, Opus 40, charming towns (such as Red Hook, Rhinebeck, Hudson, Tivoli, & Woodstock), farmers markets, seasonal orchards for picking your own fruit, & much more await you!

We are located on the same private road as the Painted Turtle Cottage. If you like to get away with friends & family, its the perfect place to vacation together & still have your privacy.

We love it here, and know you will too.

Boating season is May 1st - September 30th.

About Jeanne & Jim Halpin

Jim & Jeanne

Jim and I both, are from Long Island, NY. Jim worked as an Operations Manager for an engineering firm, and I was a Computer Operator for a local township, and I also worked as an Administrative Assistant for many years. Jim did a lot of traveling for his job, and it took us to North Carolina. We really enjoyed living there; however, our families & friends were back on LI, so after a few years, we returned home. We always loved the north east's countryside and farmland. We would vacation in Vermont, but weren't ready to commit to their winters. We were really hoping to find a place that wasn't too far from LI.

When we were ready to make the move, we looked all over the tri-state area. When we arrived in Red Hook, we knew it was where we wanted to settle. We love the community, the people, and the most of all, the countryside.

We have 2 furry 'kids', Heidi - our dog, and Sam - our cat; and all the creatures on our property are an added bonus!

Jeanne & Jim Halpin purchased this apartment in 2006

Why Jeanne & Jim Halpin chose Hudson Valley

Upon seeing this property for the first time, we weren't sure we were ready for a such a huge undertaking. The property was quite neglected, and overgrown. The 1950's summer bungalow was tiny and housing a few critters. However, The mature trees were beautiful, and the lake, quiet & pristine. Hearing the wind rustling in the trees was hypnotizing. The task seemed daunting and overwhelming to me, but to Jim, he had found Nirvana! This property held such promise. It was a huge undertaking, and lots of work, but, all in all - we are so glad we stayed and pursued our country dream.

Peaceful getaway

  • 5 of 5

We were impressed with the location, right on the lake! Also the use of the space inside was so well planned. I can't say enough about the cheery decor, color choices, and well-placed accents. It was very appreciated that towels and sheets were there.

Putting some of the lights on dimmers to control the light would be my only suggestion.

Beautiful place with every detail well designed. Ample lakefront area to relax.

  • 5 of 5

The studio is spacious, very clean and with thoughtful details. Beautiful water view from the apartment. It was quiet and peaceful. We did fishing using the row boat. There is a large private area by the lake one can sit and relax. We were planning to go apple picking and visit winery but we enjoyed the place so much we stayed in the whole time. Look forward to go back there again. Thank you Jeanne and Jim to offer such a wonderful place for us to enjoy!

Very cozy & comfortable

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I were looking for a quiet little place to get away and we found it at the fox den. The place is very comfy and beautifully decorated inside. It was a gloomy rainy weekend so we weren't able to take the canoe or paddle boat out on the lake, but that didn't dampen our stay. We hiked along the property and took in all the wildlife. Many deer and lots of chipmunks to greet us in the morning while we drank our coffee! We cooked dinner in the very accommodating kitchen. Everything we needed was right at our fingertips. The only one caveat was that there was no fire pit (my husband and I love making s'mores!). Other than that we had a wonderful stay at the fox den.

The Perfect Peaceful Retreat!

  • 5 of 5

We arrived Friday afternoon to a warm welcome. We had delicious freshly baked cookie and a bottle of wine awaiting our arrival. There was a full set of instructions for everything we would need to know to enjoy our visit. The Fox Den was perfect in every way, it was sparkling clean and had so many special touches added for our comfort. From the fully equipped kitchen to the gas fireplace to the patio and incredible lake views we fell in love. We decided we needed to go say hi to our host who had created such a lovely space. Jeanne and Jim are delightful. We spent the next day exploring the area and decided the Fox Den was too nice to stay away from so we ordered our dinner to go and enjoyed a quiet afternoon and evening back at the Fox Den. It was a great weekend and we have every intention of going back. We would highly recommend the Fox Den.

Gorgeous getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Super gorgeous rental! Jeanne and Jim did a lovely job with the place; the pictures don't do it justice! We enjoyed some swimming and kayaking around the lake, as well as lots of lounging. The kitchen is really nice and is stocked with plenty of cooking oil and spices. You can tell they put a lot of thought into all the little "extras" that really make the Fox Den a terrific getaway. Thanks Jeanne and Jim! Hope to come back another time.

Relaxing Weekend!

  • 5 of 5

Fox Den is just lovely! Jeanne and Jim have so thoughtfully created a peaceful retreat, with everything you could need for a relaxing getaway, from fresh cookies to card games to bug spray! We enjoyed morning coffee in the adirondack chairs by the lake, lazy lunches on the patio (cooked in the well appointed kitchen) watching the birdfeeders, and evenings grabbing a bite to eat in nearby Red Hook and Tivoli. The bedroom nook is perfectly comfortable and we especially loved sleeping with the french doors open to the breeze and sounds of crickets. The lake is very quiet and even though the studio is part of the main house, it is tucked away with its own patio, making it very private. Thank you for a great "end of summer" weekend! We hope to return!

Car: necessary

The Fox Den is in the perfect location. We are 10 minutes (or less), to our town of Red Hook, which is a wonderful small town with some great restaurants and shops. Our favorite place to hunt for old, country antiques and treasures is Hoffman's Barn. It's in Red Hook, behind the movie theatre. Another is Living Eden, one of my favorites.

Only 20 minutes from us is Rhinebeck, which is an artsy, interesting town. Everyone flocks to Rhinebeck! It's a wonderful town, with it's history, restaurants and shops. Home to the Beekman Arms Inn, the oldest continuous running inn in America. The food is excellent. The pub (located in the back) is a step back in time, warm and cozy. The greenhouse is located in the front of the restaurant, where you can view the lovely town. Also, Terrapin restaurant and Gigi's Trattoria are delicious places to dine and have seating both inside and out.

The Hudson Valley is home to the CIA (Culinary Institute of America), which is why our chefs are outstanding!

The Dutchess County Fairgrounds are also in Rhinebeck. Please check out their website. They host plenty of fairs throughout the summer into the fall.

We have lots to do in the Hudson Valley and plenty of towns to visit, Hudson, Tivoli, Hyde Park, Red Hook and Rhinebeck; and across the river are Woodstock, New Paltz, & Saugherties, just to name a few

Come and visit us!
