About Les & Mary Stinespring

We moved to Montana from West Virginia in 1997. We chose this northwest corner of the state so we could continue to enjoy the mountains, rivers, lakes, streams, and wildlife we had become accustomed to ‘back home’.

In WV, Les worked for Shell Chemical, Universal Glass and Westvaco as well as being self-employed over 40 years as a Taxidermist . Mary worked there for the WV DOH, Borg Warner Chemicals, Nashua Corporation and then was employed by CenturyTel here in Montana.

We worked as Managers of Glacier Wilderness Resort near Glacier National Park managing 10 full size, 2 bedroom cabins with individual hot tubs..

We have been married over 40 years, have 5 children and 9 grandchildren. Our four daughters reside here and our son lives in northern California.

Les & Mary Stinespring purchased this cabin in 1997

Why Les & Mary Stinespring chose Bigfork

This property is a little bit of Heaven.

We love the huge mountain range right behind us, the woods, and the animals that live here. We like the close proximity to the river, Flathead Lake, grocery stores, banks, restaurants, entertainment – all the things we can access with a few minutes of driving. At night we sit on the porch and gaze up at the star studded 'Big Montana Sky'.

We enjoy the low humidity in the summer which makes it comfortable to be outdoors. In the evening a cool breeze comes down off the mountain, naturally cooling the cabin for a comfortable nights sleep.

It was 'love at first sight'. After visiting this area, we knew this is where we wanted to spend the rest of our lives.

What makes this cabin unique

We searched every day for the ‘right’ property when we arrived in the Flathead Valley in June, 1997. On a snowy December day, in response to an ad in the paper, we made the trip to Bear Creek Road to check it out. We waded through the snow as we walked in the circular drive.

We fell in love with what we saw and quickly made it ours.

We have had no desire to go on vacation because we feel we are, indeed, on vacation every day.

Charming Cabin & Setting

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay in this cozy cabin during our stay Sept. 11th - Sept. 13th. The cabin had all we needed and had a great cabin feel. We LOVED the cabin & the setting, it was so peaceful. Especially the friendly squirrel that loved sunflower seeds :). We wished we could have stayed longer. We would recommend this cabin, especially if you love the outdoors. Thank you Mary & Les for sharing your cabin with us.

Peace & Quiet in fantastic little cabin

  • 5 of 5

Despite all the wildfires and ever-present smoke in the air....we had a very nice visit. The cabin was very comfortable, and had everything you needed (including Wi-Fi, which was a must for us to keep in contact with our 2 little ones back home with the grandparents). The outdoor space was great, and we enjoyed the different critters around the area. Conveniently located 10 minutes away from Big Fork in case you needed anything, and less than an hour away from West Glacier Park. Perfect place to stay to see lots in Montana! Would definitely recommend, Les and Mary were great hosts!

Idyllic Montana

  • 5 of 5

We were so happy with our stay at the cabin. The location is a perfect central location for day trips to Whitefish, the Park, Bigfork, Swan Lake, Flathead lake and lots of rivers for fishing. We enjoyed coffee in the morning and wine in the evening on the perfect little deck. We wish there had not been a burn ban because the fire pit looked awesome. The cabin's interior is cozy, practically brand new and just modern enough. The kids slept in the loft and loved it. We barbecued most nights and watched deer walking though the property right outside our door. The owners offered suggestions on everything Montana. Thank you for a great trip!

Cozy, comfortable, and relaxing stay in the woods

  • 5 of 5

Les and Mary were very quick to respond to any queries and extra helpful in providing input on activities/itinerary plans in the area. The cabin is secluded in the woods and very peaceful with a lot of great amenities. As Montana had many wildfires this month and has been very smoky, we were unable to use the fire pit due to state fire restrictions but still enjoyed sitting outdoors in the evenings and grilling meals. The cabin is in a great location near downtown Bigfork, Flathead Lake and about an hour drive to Glacier National Park. We were sad to leave but thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

Great little cabin in the woods

  • 5 of 5

Our family really enjoyed our stay at this cabin. The kids really liked sleeping in the little loft. Loved hearing the breezes blowing down from the mountains behind the cabin. Overall it was very clean and well maintained. Bigfork is just a few minutes away for any last minute shopping and dinning. Would recommend staying here! We just wished we could've stayed longer.
