About Janet Newman Ali at PineCone Cottage
I have always dreamed of owning a rental cottage. When I was a child, I used to stay in the deep woods of Northern Michigan. These were the fondest memories of my life. I always adored the historic rental cabins that I saw on my trip. Providing a unique, memorable accommodation to make your vacation even more special has been a lifelong goal of mine. I also teach piano.
Janet Newman Ali at PineCone Cottage purchased this Cottage in 2004
Why Janet Newman Ali at PineCone Cottage chose Estes Park
We bought this vacation rental for the mountain views, its privacy, acreage (1.78 acres) and proximity to Rocky National Mountain park and the town and attractions of Estes Park. We looked for four years and knew this was "the one" when we saw the amazing mountain views rising on all sides.
What makes this Cottage unique
1300 square foot historic craftsman miners' style cottage with the best views in Estes Park! The 1.78 acre lot is one of the largest vacation rental lots in Estes. Decorated in old world style with a modern flair. New kitchen and granite counter tops. Perched on the mountainside with two large bedrooms. Spectacular panoramic 360 degree views cannot even be captured fully on film. 10 foot rock formation just behind cottage. Nighttime stars are unparalleled. You have the feeling of literally being surrounded by Rocky Mountains. The property is frequented by white tailed deer, mule deer, elk, hummingbirds, and coyote on a daily basis. We occasionally see bobcats and other wildlife. 5 Minute drive to Rocky Mountain National Park, 5 Minute drive to the Estes Park downtown and 1 minute drive to quiet Mary's Lake Recreation and Picnic area or a 10 minute walk.

Enjoyed our stay
It was a very convenient experience. Enjoyed our stay. It was as advertised.
Had a nice turn around for the driveway.
The lock box was a bit difficult with it being so high.
My husband put up the lock box and he is 5'5" tall. We will lower it as there are quite a few people who are not this tall. We always appreciate and act on candid reviews from guests. We are so glad you liked our place! We work for hours between each guest to provide a home as clean and well taken care of as a model home.
Perfect cabin in Estes
Great location, very clean and awesome views. Will be back!
Great home base for Rocky Mountain Park
Home was nice and clean and the location excellent, no more than a mile or two to the main gate of Rocky Mountain Park. A little tricky to find but the directions were good. Only issue we had was that it sits a few hundred yards from a major Estes Park road so there is considerable vehicle noise.
Our cottage is AT LEAST 3 acres from the road and we have not ever in our 13 yours of renting had a prior road noise complaint. We cannot control when a motorcycles or other loud vehicles decides to take Mary's Lake Road. The speed limit is 35 mph and is not a "main" road. The majority of places in town have dramatically greater road noise. We unfairly receive a 4 rating when we are objectively one of the more quite places in town! We have been shocked by how much sound can echo in the Estes Valley. I am very sound sensitive and we specifically bought this place because the road noise was lower than most places. This was after shopping for a cabin for 4 years and staying in many cabins in Estes in various locations.
We go so far above and beyond, spending 6-10 hours between each guest cleaning and doing maintenance. We provide a basket full of snacks, a full pack of water bottles, nearly two acres of land and purchase and upgrade many of our dishes/rugs/etc, yearly. It is sad that our efforts are not recognized. Our place is one of the best in town. Please see our other reviews. :(
Perfect location for Rocky Mountain National Park
The cabin has been renovated to be very comfortable (great beds) and attractive, yet keeping its cabin feel. It's 7 minutes from the main park entrance, so perfect location for day hikes and exploring the Rockies. Due to its beautiful location tucked into the hillside, there are lots of steps outside and within the cabin. We didn't find any games, but luckily, we'd brought our own. The kitchen and baths were recently renovated and spotless. The native vegetation and wildflowers surrounding the house are lovely.
Comfortable mountain-side retreat with fantastic views!
Rented based on other reviews and they were for the most part spot on. We were not disappointed and being very discerning that says a lot. As an added bonus, elk passed by the property front each and every morning of our stay. Wonderful!
The accommodations were comfortable. Many of the amenities that were said to be available were not. The extensive movie, game collection was non existent. Would not have cared if the weather permitted us to be out more. The tv in the master bedroom had no connection the entire time. Had to buy our own coffee filters, coffee, hot chocolate, dish soap, etc. Not a big deal if it didn’t say that these things were available at the cabin already.
As someone who has stayed in several places in or near Estes Park, it was not my favorite but it was comfortable. I’m pretty reasonable when it comes to accommodations, so we made the best of it. I just think that for the rate, we should have at least had available to us the things that your website and instruction book said were available.
We are so sorry you had a rainy vacation, something that rarely happens in Colorado! We hope you enjoyed the full pack of bottled water and the basket of individual sized snacks that we provided you as extras! We are sorry you did not voice any of your concerns to us when you arrived as we would have quickly had them taken care of!
All amenities listed on the VRBO website were there at the time of your stay. We had about 20 DVDs is the master bedroom drawer under the TV that you must have missed. We do not provide toys and games anymore and I am not sure where you found that, be we hope the extra $150 refund we gave you was adequate to address your complaints.
We are also sorry that the previous guest had disabled the TV and we missed it. We do hope the other two TV's in the living room and second bedroom were adequate. Again, this would have been a quick fix had you contacted us.
As per our signage, we provide you with automatic dishwasher soap but do not provide liquid as we ask our guests to wash the dishes in the dishwasher.
Next time, please call, text, or email us and we will have your requests taken care of in a jiffy! We do not have nearly 100 positive reviews for no reason!
Spectacular panoramic 360 degree views cannot even be captured fully on film. 10 foot rock formation just behind cottage. Nighttime stars are unparalleled. You have the feeling of literally being surrounded by Rocky Mountains. You have 1.78 acres of secluded space.
Close to Rocky Mountain National Park entrance. 5 Minute drive to Rocky Mountain National Park, 5 Minute drive to the Estes Park downtown and 1 minute drive to quiet Mary's Lake Recreation and Picnic area or a 10 minute walk.
