We had a wonderful stay here. There was plenty of room for our family reunion of 9 adults and two children, with rooms to spare. The kitchen is very well equipped, the antiques in the home are fascinating, the beds are comfortable, the land around the home is wonderful for hiking or just relaxing, and the location is makes it an easy drive to the parks and sites in the area! This is a very interesting home: it started as a tiny farm house, and has been expanded and expanded with pretty bedrooms here and there, wonderful kitchen, huge family room, great porch, a library, plenty of bathrooms, and much more which makes this quirky home unique and fascinating. For 25 years my family - children, grands and great grands, 21 in all - gather somewhere in the mountains the weekend before Thanksgiving to celebrate family. The farm house was perfect for our needs. The kitchen was well stocked with pans, utensils, etc. Enough seating for meals for entire family. Although we used dipsosable plates there were plenty of place settings provided and a dishwasher to wash them! The bedrooms were private and quiet and the beds comfortable. The trails were beautiful and not difficult. It was sad that because of drought, the stream bed and falls were dry. Also, we were not able to enjoy bonfire pit but it's there, awaiting the end of the drought. This is a safe place for children to play and ride bikes. Can't say enough about the owners Ray and Bobbie. A delightful couple and very helpful. Love your accents, Bobbie! :) We will definitely reserve The Farmhouse again! Thanks, Ray and Bobbie, for a really great family gathering!
Thank you, Ray, for such a wonderful family weekend and wedding experience. Thank you most of all for coming to our rescue when the minister late. You went above and beyond what is expected as a host by driving to the chapel, finding the minister's phone number, calling him, driving to find him where he was lost, and escorting him to the farmhouse. You are such a nice person. You have a lovely home that is so large and comfortable. We had everything that we needed. We hope to be able to stay again in the near future.
Seventeen of us spent a full weekend in the house. Because the kitchen was fully equipped and spacious, the food prep was easy. All the large rooms for gathering made for fun times. The walking trails in the woods had many surprises with the creeks and rock boulders. Will be coming back for another retreat.
Enjoyed The Wildflower Cafe in Mentone, AL also.
WE FOUND THIS HOME TO BE JUST THE RIGHT SIZE FOR OUR GROUP OF 16. WE LOVED THE SCREENED IN PORCH IT HAS A BIG BED TO REST AND RELAX. OUR GROUP CONSISTED OF 16 PEOPLE FROM 1 TO 60 YEARS OLD. WE ALL HAD A GREAT TIME. WE PLAYED WITH THE GAMES AND READ THE BOOKS THAT WERE AT THE HOUSE. OVERALL WE LOVED THE PLACE. RAY WAS VERY HELPFUL WITH ALL OF OUR CONCERNS.
Each year we gather together as a family of 8 adults and 8 children for a week in the mountains. The Wilderness at Mentone provided ample space for outside activities, and the swimming hole down a 15 minute hiking trail was a special attraction. The large house is a refurbished farmhouse with plenty of sleeping areas and bathrooms, and the many nooks and crannies were well explored by the children. As to be expected in an old house that has been modified and added on to, there are a few unexpected quirks (light switched in odd places for example). Also be aware that the nearest grocery store is 7 or 8 miles away. We enjoyed the easy access to some areas that we wanted to visit, such as Lookout Mountain, Cloudland State Park, Desoto Park, and Ft Payne, Al. Finally, the owners were easily available, and they could not have been more hospitable. Overall, a very nice place to spend a week. SD
