The Cilento National Park: The Cilento National Park has been recognised by the UNESCO since 1998 as part of the World Heritage with the following justification: “The Cilento is an outstanding cultural landscape. The dramatic groups of sanctuaries and settlements along its three east–west mountain ridges vividly portray the area's historical evolution: it was a major route not only for trade, but also for cultural and political interaction during the prehistoric and medieval periods. The Cilento was also the boundary between the Greek colonies of Magna Graecia and the indigenous Etruscan and Lucanian peoples. The remains of two major cities from classical times, Paestum and Velia, are found there (…) as well as the impressive monastic property of the Certosa di San Lorenzo in Padula”.
Santa Maria di Castellabate sea: In Santa Maria di Castellabate you will also enjoy a high quality sea that is internationally awarded, with a wonderful fragmented coasts as well as beautiful fine sand beaches with shallow waters ideal for kids. In 2004 Castellabate has been awarded once again the Blue Flag. The Blue Flag is an exclusive eco-label based on strict criteria dealing with water quality, environmental education and information, environmental management, and safety and other services.
What to see... : Finally you have to know that in a one day trip from Castellabate you can enjoy well known places as Positano and the Amalfi Coast, Paestum, Naples, Pompeii, Capri or Sorrento.
This is our 5th year in these lovely appartments in the most lovely part of Italy ever imagianable. This year travelling with Children age 6 and 8, so our youngest has been here every year all his life!
The owners are very nice and leave you in privacy! The appartments are clean and practical with every thing you need in the kitchen. Washing machine, bedlinnen, towels, tv, etc. Outside is the most fantastic view of the sea and you can hear the waves. Barbeque, outdoor furniture, olivetrees and lemontrees. All green - just interrupted by the turqouise sea. 4 minutes walk down to the beach. 7 minutes back up again. The beach is fantastic and the beach restaurants very good. We love the Aloha beach and the Tartaruga straight down from the villa. The ocean is 100% crystal clear and shallow for 200 meters. On October 6th it is blue skyes - 24 degrees in the ocean and 29 in the air!
The appartments is perfectly situated between the town of San Marco and Santa Maria - just below the old historical medevil town of Castellabate. Also perfect for visiting Paestum, Pompei, Vesuv, Positano, Amalfi, Napoli, Salerno and Agropoli to the north. Driving towards the south you`ll find a number of beatuiful small towns by the sea - even the roads between them is an awesome experience with spectacular seaviews. Going in-land you find yourself in the middle of Cilento national park. Beautiful and green with roads up to 1500 meters altitude! Our favorite excursion is by car to Salerno and then by boat to the Amalfi coast - spending the day in Positano. But most days we stay at the local beach and have dinner in Santa Maria (Pizzeria da Nello).
We have visited here both with car and without and both is ok. However it is a short mile to the neares shop. We have flown to both Rome ( 3,5 hrs) and Naples (1,5 hrs).
We recomend this place with all our heart and say thanks for having us again...and again!
We stayed the first week in September and it was a very relaxing time. We enjoyed the sunset and the friendly atmosphere. The high season was over and the beach quite empty. The shallow water was perfect for small children. On the pictures I noticed that the Villa is located quite high above the water, so I was surprised that the walk down to the beach and back up again was not difficult at all. It's only a 5 min. walk and some of it is shaded.
Thanks for the hospitality!
This was the third time we stayed in this appartement and hopefully not the last time!
We love the terrasse ,the view, the privacy. The appartement is Well equiped, clean, the owner very helpfull. So many more things to say, close to the beach, other beaches not far away,a lovely bar also not far away(Torretta in st Marco de Castellabate )
We arrived after a long journey to a warm welcome from Andrea and his mother Rita. The apartments have great views over the bay and beach of Castellebate Santa maria and san Marco. The apartment is simply furnished but well equipped and thank goodness for the ceiling fans, which although noisy, were a blessed relief from the heatwave during our stay. The only drawback to the apartment is the steep walk to the beach and back - this is not a great place if you have any mobility issues as the walk to the beach takes in a steep slope and many steps. And the busy road separates the apartment building from the beach. We found it quite noisy and to be honest, we probably would not have booked the apartment if we had known about it. BUT, the location is beautiful, there are lots of great restaurants in the area - we didn't have a bad meal, the beach is lovely, clean with mostly calm waves, and there are lots of nearby attractions. Paestum is well worth a trip and the medeival village of Catsellebate is stunning. We enjoyed many coffees at a cafe overlooking the beautiful countryside. - And there are a couple of nice little food shops there, too.
Rita was very welcoming despite our lack of mutual language and made a couple of meals for us, which was very much appreciated. And the sunsets from the terrace were stupendous. Don't expect luxury, but do expect a warm welcome from helpful hosts in a lovely part of the country. We will definitely return to the area and hope to explore further.
Thank you Andrea and Rita
The apartment was in a beautiful place. The team were friendly and helpful. The property was clean and well looked after and the beach was lovely. The view was absolutely stunning. We were absolutely bowled over
Our stay at apartment no 2 was great. The view from the terrace was stunning and the apartment was within easy walking distance from both the beach and the nearby towns of Santa Maria and San Marco. We loved walking along the beach to both towns and found great ice-cream and coffee in each place. The apartment and terrace were well kept and had everything we needed, and the lovely Rita was very hospitable and kind to us, without ever being intrusive. We booked our transfers through the company recommended by the apartment owners, which worked really well and was very easy with our three children. Our driver, Franco, was also very kind and helpful. Our stay was fine without a car, because we were looking for a simple and relaxing visit; we spent most of our time on the beach, also visiting Castellabate at the to of the hill, which is a manageable walk but can also be reached by bus or taxi... The walk back down is obviously much easier! Thanks to the owners for providing a lovely base for a really lovely holiday.
Fantastica vista e villa veramente confortevole.
The Villa is located inside Cilento National Park, a location where the wildness of the nature is mixed with art and culture. In fact in the area you can either make wonderful excursions to its cultural sites i.e. the ancient ruins of old cities like Paestum and Velia or Cilento will fascinate you with its high quality sea and beaches that every year are awarded with the “Blue Flag” of the European Union. Furthermore Cilento National Park has been awarded by UNESCO as World Heritage since 1998. In San Marco, Santa Maria and Castellabate you will also enjoy the typical and wonderful fragmented coasts and the beautiful fine sand beaches and shallow waters ideal for kids.
