About Jens

I grew up on and around Caragh Lake and recently moved back to this beautiful part of the world with my wife and eight year old son.

As a family we love the water. For years we've been sailing, windsurfing and paddle boarding, mainly on reservoirs around London, but on a trip home mid 2015 the penny dropped - this place was heaven and it was time to move back.

I'm originally German, moved to Ireland when I was a kid, lived in France for a number of years and for the past twenty have been in the UK, working in digital media.

For us it's about the quality of life here - the great outdoors, fantastic food and time with friends and family.

We feel incredibly lucky to be able to call this part of the world home and, whether at Bells Cottage, my parents' charming traditional Kerry farmhouse; or at Caragh Lake House, our lakeshore home which we recently renovated, we look forward to sharing this little bit of heaven with you.

Jens purchased this villa in 2015

Guestbook comments from the owner

We stayed at Caragh Lakehouse in August and couldn't have been happier with it.

The house is in an incredibly scenic location and Jens and Michelle have paid a lot of attention to detail by hanging beautiful art throughout the house and by providing extremely well equipped kitchens.

The beds were supremely comfortable with lovely down comforters.

We were in Kerry for a family reunion and the house is a perfect size for this. The view from the living room is spectacular.

The house is within a reasonably short drive of the Dingle Peninsula and the beautiful Inch strand.

Jens could not have been more helpful in the run up to our stay making sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our stay.

Ideal family vacation

  • 5 of 5

Wow! Our stay surpassed our expectations. I wanted a house in Ireland to celebrate my father-in-law's 75th birthday. We had 3 families and this house fit us all comfortably. The decor and style were designed with care and taste. The views of the lake and summer sun were majestic. We even got out onto the lake in the kayaks (be careful when windy). The location is ideal—close to several outstanding golf courses; quiet, serene setting overlooking the lake; less than 10 minutes to town; and it’s well situated for day trips to so many places. The town of Killorglin maintains the charm and sense of community of an Irish town but also has a very nice choice of restaurants. Our favorite was Giovannelli (Michelin recipient). Our family travels quite often (my wife is a travel writer) and we see and experience many places. Jens’ Caragh Lake House is one of our absolute favorites. It helped make a family celebration special—one that will not be soon forgotten.

Lovely home, completely enjoyed our stay

  • 5 of 5

Welcoming hosts and very good everything-comfortable beds, crisp sheets, decor is simple, looks elegant but not fussy. The view is superb, a pleasure to take in from the large windows. Despite active hiking and sightseeing plans, we found we took time to just watch the lake, the sky, and the garden as it slopes down to the shore. Thanks for a very fine stay!

Relaxing Lakehouse With Stunning Views

  • 5 of 5

We were a family of 6 adults who were fortunate enough to rent this wonderful lakehouse which surpassed our expectations. Location was perfect for visiting the numerous towns and sights along the Ring of Kerry. Every room was well planned in respect to lighting, bedding, size and comfort. Multiple oversized windows and sliding glass doors captured spectacular views of Caragh Lake which we savored at the end of each day. Jens and Michelle were excellent hosts with all house provisions readily accessible including, wine and apple pie for our arrival. House was outfitted with a high level of attention to detail and taste. Outdoor furniture was just as important to us as were the multiple interior gathering spaces. For our group, single floor layout was also appreciated. We enjoyed the landscaping with a variety of flowers in bloom. We were able to contact the owners with questions although a detailed guide was provided which outlined the ins and outs of enjoying our time in Ireland.

We do have to mention that Jens and Michelle advised us in regard to a driver/tour guide and their recommendation to book Ann Marie of Morrison Tours was perfect. We could not ask for a more competent, flexible, hospitable guide than Ann Marie...a true Irish gem!

We had a fabulous time at the Caragh Lake House!

  • 5 of 5

We could not have enjoyed our stay at the beautiful Caragh Lake House any more! The level of hospitality shown to us by Jens and Michelle was beyond any expectations and we honestly consider them to be lovely friends whom we look forward to seeing again. The house was amazingly well appointed, very spacious, and very comfortable. The views were amazingly beautiful and even the Irish weather cooperated beautifully for us. Our entire family , as well as a number of invited guests who joined us, shared our most favorable impression of our Irish holiday. This was certainly not our first visit Ireland but the first of the sort where we rented a home and did different excursions during the day, but found it a perfect launching pad for our various activities. Another highlight that we found was the two spectacular country homes with restaurants within a very short distance of the laje house, which we enjoyed on a regular basis! This is a perfect location and home for either a family gathering for perhaps several couples. Good

Should have stayed longer!!!

  • 5 of 5

This was our 2nd stop on a family holiday in Ireland. 5 adult siblings and our spouses traveled Ireland over a 10-day period. Unfortunately, we only allotted 3 nights at Caragh Lake House. When we arrived, we were warmly greeted by Michelle. We were quite impressed with the home and the property!! We should have booked the house for the entire week!! It is the perfect spot for exploring the entire SW of Ireland!
