A wonderful property for a family or group holiday
The house, pool and garden exceeded our expectations and we can thoroughly recommend it. The property is everything as described but the multiple flexible bedrooms, bathrooms and showers make it ideal for a family group. Those wanting quiet spaces had plenty of choice with landing alcoves or hammock in the garden or even the upstairs of the studio ( loved by our five little granddaughters as their den).Plenty of crockery, glasses and cutlery and a huge pile of pool towels made coping with larger numbers so much easier. As a previous guest commented the beds are really comfortable and we enjoyed the quality sheets. Being able to walk into the village each day for our croissants, baguettes etc was an added bonus. Nick was very helpful beforehand answering any questions we had and when a couple of issues did arise Jackie dealt with them very promptly. We had a wonderful stay despite the weather being more unsettled than anticipated and can only speak highly of our whole experience in the renting of this lovely village property.

Well appointed house in a picturesque village
We had a lovely week in this property. The weather wasn’t great (just two properly sunny days) but there was plenty to do to keep us busy, and the heated pool meant we swam every day. The house itself is brilliant: lots of space both inside and out. We were a group of friends, and had three babies in our party. The two different living rooms meant one could become a play room with toys, and the other could be kept for adults to read or play games. The property manager, Lydia, was hugely helpful by offering up and dropping off her own family high chair in addition to the one at the property. As for the village: it was absolutely stunning. A quaint little village with the chateau at its centre and a river winding its way through the middle (we had a couple of swims in the river, which were lovely!). We did find it quite quiet (most shops were shut 1400-1600) but it had everything we needed. A 5 mins walk to get fresh pastries every morning, and the epicerie and butchers had enough staples to get by if we couldn’t be bothered to drive to the supermarket (enormous Le Clerc supermarket about 10 mins drive away). The wine shop/ bar was just lovely. We had a couple of hiccups with maintenance but found Lydia to be responsive and efficient at getting things sorted. One piece of hopefully constructive criticism, however, was regarding the temporarily broken boiler, which meant 2 out of 3 showers in the main house were out of action. Lydia got an electrician to fix it within about 36 hours of asking, which was great, but it was annoying having 13 adults sharing one indoor shower (plus one outside) and a bottle of wine or box of chocolates to acknowledge that would have gone a long way in engendering goodwill about the situation. All in all though a lovely holiday and a strong recommendation for anyone thinking of booking it.

Exceptional property and location
We enjoyed one of the best holidays ever at Nick and Tina's property. The house, garden and pool are simply wonderful. The photos do not do it justice. Along with property manager Kev all our questions and needs were met in a super friendly and efficient manner. The rooms are beautifully appointed and the beds/linen were extremely comfortable. We had briefly visited the village before and were very keen to return for a longer visit. The property is in the perfect location, less than 5 minutes from the jaw-dropping view of river and castle, the boulangerie, charcuterie and bars/restaurants. Cannot recommend this property highly enough and will definitely book again.

A Slice of Heaven in Verteuil sur Charante
The property offers spacious accommodation for large family's or groups with luxurious facilities all oozing personality and individual design. The house is truly beautiful, and set just 2 minutes walk from the centre of the village which has a boulangerie, butcher and a selection of excellent bars and restaurants. Turning the other way from the village takes you immediately into glorious countryside with other beautiful villages nearby. As a keen cyclist, the roads were quiet, and the terrain interesting and beautiful. The management and support of both the property owners and local property manager was second to none. We were looked after with the utmost care throughout our stay and would not hesitate in recommending both this property and village as the most wonderful place to stay in this area of France. Also nearby is the town of Ruffec which has a large E. Leclerc supermarket as well as a larger selection of shops, garages and other facilities. Canoeing / Kayaking is also available just outside Ruffec with the facility to paddle all the way down to the village of Verteuil su Charante. A really good adventure! We had a large family group with an age range from 22 years old though to my Mother of 85 years of age and every single one of us loved the house, pool, table tennis, fire pit, BBQ and facilities throughout this property and very much hope to visit again. Thank you for a wonderful holiday making unforgettable memories for a lifetime. Ash & Jo

About the host

We are an English family with 4 boys who adore the place.

Why they chose this property

This is a beautiful, well proportioned house within a very popular, well serviced village. There is plenty of space to congregate as a group or to find a little peace on your own. The village is tranquil and exceptionally scenic, composed almost entirely of rural historic buildings. The amenities are good so you will spill out into the bars and restaurants. The local roads are minor so there is plenty of opportunity to explore the surrounding villages and countryside on foot or bicycle

What makes this property unique

A great benefit is that everything is on your doorstep. There is no need to drive to dinner. in fact, there is no need to leave the village at all.
