This is your own bright and open apartment in a private garden setting, all centrally located in Savannah's Victorian district, within the Thomas square neighborhood.
The best description is an urban cabin. I strive to keep it as open as possible for less clutter and still provide you with a comfortable stay. There are practical, modern elements mixed with vintage pieces that hold their own in the space. There is a galley kitchen with a fridge and stovetop oven. The windows provide for great natural light all day, and for any afternoon thunderstorms it's the best view on the property. The garden is expansive and very peaceful. It's situated behind a large colonial revival house (1914), and both sit on a 1/4 acre lot. There are 70 ft tall water oaks that shade the property. And open as it is, it feels very much like a private retreat.
If the space is available i will give a discount to visiting writers for longer stays of a week or more. If you are looking to book for a month or longer, i can also provide a discounted rate. Please inquire further when you are looking to book.
Just a few blocks south of Forsyth Park, it is within very close walking distance of Cotton & Rye, Blowin' Smoke, Butterhead Greens, Foxy Loxy, Elizabeth's, Local 1110, American Legion, Betty Bombers, Le Chai, Sentient Bean, Perc, Green Truck, and Brighter Day. It is also in close proximity to the Starland District (galleries, Starland Cafe, Back in the Day, Starlandia and the Wormhole), the Florence, and a few of SCAD's major buildings, including Arnold Hall. The main central library is 3 blocks away. There are 2 older bikes to use for your stay, and a large garden and patio to enjoy.
This is as central as you can get south of the historic squares, less the congestion. There is a city bus line that stops on the corner, but otherwise it is 5 minutes by car from here to river street, 15 minutes by bike (with a dedicated bike lane on opposite corner), and about half hour if your hoofing it (unless you stop for a beer to escape the midday sun).
For Tybee visitors, it is a few blocks from victory drive, and from there it takes about 25 minutes to drive. I do have beach chairs, large towels, and a cooler for you to use.
There will be a small variety of breakfast items provided, usually including organic or locally sourced coffee, milk, juice, eggs, cereal, and some beverages.
(note: there are shades and curtains on every window for privacy. I intentionally edit out any televisions, but wifi is provided in case you want to stream movies or music on your own wireless device.)
If there is no availability on the calendar, you may contact me regarding the upstairs unit.
Thank you to my guests, Mike and Olivia from Chicago, for providing me with beautiful new listing photographs. Most all in the series were taken by Mike Killion from Chicago.

Hello all -- Having lived and traveled all over the country and a good deal abroad, I can truly say Savannah is hands down one of the most beautiful towns anywhere ... I still keep calling it home. I can be a recluse even in a crowd, and this quality is what drew me to my house of 13 years -- it provides a wooded privacy in a centralized, urban setting. Once you get your keys and I get you oriented, I'm pretty hands off -- but always happy to answer any questions or share some wine. You'll understand why this place is a secret hideaway in the middle of everything.
Richard Wofford purchased this apartment in 2002
I was absolutely thrilled with my visit to the Urban Cabin Apartment. I loved the way the apartment was decorated and the bed was so comfortable. The owner provided everything needed for a relaxing get away. The apartment is tucked in behind a gorgeous old home in Savannah. Being a single traveler, the proximity to the main house and the fenced in yard provided me with a sense of security that made my stay even more enjoyable. I spent the day walking many of the main squares in Savannah and made it down to the river which is very doable with the location of the apartment. There are even a few places to eat just within a block or two of the apartment. I would highly recommend this apartment! Thank you for my stay!
This is a great place to stay to see Savannah! Our two dogs loved sitting out on the patio with us. We had our bikes so easy bike ride to all the attractions. Don't miss the tour with Savannah Dan! Sorry it took me so long to write this.
It was lovely. Well decorated (I'm a design junkie, and I loved how it had been set up - GREAT use of space), and stocked with amenities. I especially liked the blueberry granola! The tub took a hot second to get used to, but we figured it out pretty quickly - it did sometimes make some strange noises whenever I switched it from the faucet to the shower head. The pipes got a little rumbly, but if I slowed the water flow down for a while it seemed to go away. The bf and I loved how quiet it was, despite its proximity to the street. And once I got the hang of riding a bike again, downtown was very easy to get to. Overall, it was great, and we'd definitely stay again. And that's saying something - the bf and I both prefer to balance the sightseeing with heavy doses of resting on our vacations, so we were in there reading or napping quite a bit.
Thanks for the great stay.
We had a great day in Savannah and could not have had a better home base. Set in a lovely garden in a convenient neighborhood with a sweet coffee shop, natural food store, wine shop and terrific restaurant within a few blocks! Richard was a wonderful host and the place wanted for nothing. Would definitely love to do it again. Thanks Richard!
My wife and I were happy with our stay, and found the apartment just as we expected. Richard was helpful to provide food recommendations and always just a call or text away with any questions. The apartment and garden provide an oasis for relaxing for vacation, and seemed like the perfect place for a getaway. The apartment has plenty of personality and even more natural light, and the breakfast essentials and coffee provided were perfect for when we felt like sleeping in.
We loved this place! From the moment we were greeted by Richard, to walking through the old steal gate that welcomed us into the private yard, it was perfect. If you are looking for a quiet, romantic, quaint, rustic place to stay in Savannah; look no further. Perfectly located, Bicycles available, resturants within walking distance. Perfection in my opinion. Richard has the cabin stocked with all kinds of goodies that you might need. We will be returning to Savannah again, it is one of our favorite getaway destinations. That said, we will be staying here again! Thank you Richard!!
