This is an ideal location for those wanting to experience the food, wine, charm and bustle of Provençal village life, while being only 15 minutes from the spectacular Gorges du Verdon and the activities offered in and around the 11 kilometre-long Lac Ste Croix. You will find numerous beaches and secluded coves for swimming and sunbathing, as well as places (in the summer season) to hire pedalloes, kayaks, canoes and electric boats to take you into the gorge itself.
Formidable!
You might also like to try white-water rafting (out of season), sailing, climbing or paragliding in and around the lake / gorge area. Alternatively, we are surrounded by great walking and cycling country to suit most abilities, and horse-riding is available nearby too.
All around are vineyards and lavender fields......and the Med is only an hour away!
Just to let you know we had a really wonderful time in Provence. Your house is super and well equipped with lovely interior. [Your agent] was very helpful with information and advice that we needed at various times during the week. The children loved taking the peddler up the Gorge which was most spectacular. Well all I can say we are already talking about our next holiday there.
Fantastic Holiday home - everything we needed and more!
Beautiful patio area for sitting out and meals, and a lovely large garden. The location was excellent - lots of pretty provencal villages to visit and the Gorges and Lac St Croix were amazing! Lots to do for children - swimming in the lac, cycling and take a pedelo down the Gorge.
Our only regret was that we only visited for a week! We will be back without a doubt. We would highly recommend the house and area.
The house offered all we needed. The beds had already been made when we arrived. Everything was neat and clean. The customer service was excellent. We would definitely recommend this property to friends and relatives as it proved to be very cosy and comfortable during a period of bad weather. We loved the terrace. The main attraction was the lake, as we both do like swimming most af all. The distance to our favourite place was just 19 km, about 25 minutes. We are already looking forward to coming back next year!
Very comfortable beds, great bathrooms, spacious lounge area and nice outdoor space to relax in. Beautiful village perched on a hilltop. Agent very welcoming and helpful. Wonderful area to stay in, very picturesque. We enjoyed our taste of Provencal life, especially the markets and long lunches. We enjoyed taking boats at the gorges at both ends of the lake as well as visiting the prehistoric museum. Lovely walks in the area, where we enjoyed the wonderful smells of thyme and lavender. April has been a great time to visit, lovely warm weather without the crowds.
We had a wonderful stay in this well-equipped and beautifully
decorated house. The village makes a great centre for exploring this lesser-known but lovely area of Provence with the Lac
St. Croix on the doorstep and many delightful villages to visit.
We hope to return!
A lovely new year week, plenty of sunshine for our walks around the Gorges du Verdon. A great place to stay, very well equipped, and we enjoyed the log fires and watching a DVD box set of The Bridge! Excellent circular walk on the hill above Aups.
I just wanted to thank you again for an absolutely excellent holiday the cottage was spot on with everything you could wish for, a very comfortable, well equipped and homely place to spend our holiday. Many a night spent on the patio sampling wine and chatting. The house is really well situated being very private whilst having easy and quick access to local towns and villages as well as the fantastic Lac.
The water is the clearest turquoise anywhere with canoes, electric bateaux and adventure activities great fun for the kids and mum and dad.
Please pass our thanks on to Cathy who was a mine of information and very helpful. A great bonus having someone there with real local knowledge.
This has been our second visit and it has been such a great base that we have booked for a third successive year! We would recommend this villa.
Extremely spacious, detached family house, tastefully furnished to a high standard, with enclosed child-safe garden and set in a beautiful hilltop village. We are a short drive away to the stunning Gorges du Verdon and Lac Ste Croix with its many beaches and water sport activities. The house has a large terrace, great for al fresco eating and relaxing in the dappled shade. There are lots of sunny spots in the garden, with sun loungers available plus shade for those who want it. The ground floor living space includes large (60+ sq m) comfortable living/dining area with log fire for winter visitors. The property includes a fully equipped kitchen so you can dine in and a BBQ is available for your enjoyment. We take great pride in our house, love every moment we spend there and are sure you will as well, because it is our home and not just a holiday let. There are plenty of books, DVDs, music and free WiFi for you, should you need to stay connected.
Just a short walk away is Le Bellevue restaurant and bar run by Melanie and Thierry, a delightful couple offering simple, inexpensive dishes - and terrific value. A fine hotel serving gourmet food is also in walking distance.
All in all, MaisonBurns is a perfect base for exploring the spectacular Gorges du Verdon - an absolute must to visit, plus the Lac - and an ideal location for those wanting to experience the food, wine, charm and bustle of Provençal village life.
Moissac-Bellevue is a beautiful hilltop village close to the Gorge – France’s ‘Grand Canyon - and the Lac Ste Croix. It is within the Parc Naturel Régional du Verdon, and is surrounded by magnificent countryside with fabulous views across open land to the east, south and west.
Close by are the villages of Régusse (4km), and Aups (6km) having a thriving market on Wednesdays and Saturdays (and a truffle market in winter), numerous bars, restaurants, banks, shops and supermarkets.
Other delightful small towns and villages a short drive away include Tourtour – the ‘village in the sky’ -and Aiguines (pottery) close to the northern access to the Gorge. Ste Croix is a lovely village on the other side of the lake near the ‘Barrage’ leading towards Quinson - more stunning canyon scenery. From here the Verdon river flows to Esparron where you can take an hour long excursion by boat (in season) around that lake – glorious!. Close to Ste Croix, extensive lavender fields stretch to Moustier Ste Marie from Valensole.
Don't miss Cotignac (lunch beneath the plane trees), Sillans la Cascade (waterfalls), Salernes (cycle hire), Villecroze (grottoes) and Baudinard (stunning sunsets).
