Why Sam Podolsky chose Central City/Garden District

I have lived in New Orleans my whole life. I fell in love with the lower garden district and Magazine street. When this property became available, I saw so much potential in it that I had to have it. My house is very important to me, and I think that it adds a lot of charm to an already great neighborhood.

What makes this house unique

The location is unbelievable with lots of personality and everything that you could need like restaurants, arts, and parades.

Great house and location

  • 4 of 5

This was a trip with 4 girl cousins and one spouse of a cousin. The house is a beautifully restored double shotgun with lovely art and a wonderful tropical back yard and back porch with the added treat of the nicest macaw ever - Rio. The location is great - quiet, with lots of local eats and drinks nearby and only 3 blocks from St. Charles streetcar and the WWII Museum. Most trips into the French Quarter were less than $8 for UberX and $14 for Uber XL. Even during the Jazz Fest, Uber XL to the fairgrounds was $27 - divided by 5, that was a great deal.

What future renters need to understand (which we didn't, but do now) is that shotgun houses don't have hallways. To go from the front room to the bathrooms or kitchen requires a walk through one or two bedrooms. No big deal if you are two couples or even two families with little ones, since each side is relatively self-contained with a bath on each side. The layout is one side with a bedroom and king size bed, with bedroom #2 behind it, consisting of a queen Murphy bed and lots of closet space, followed by the very large (and convenient for multiple ladies showering, dressing and putting on make-up since the shower is secluded and private) modern bath. You have to go through bedroom #2 to get to the bathroom from bedroom #1. On the left side is bedroom #3, the huge master bedroom with a king bed, following by the smaller bath with the claw foot tub. Both bathrooms open to the large open concept kitchen/sitting area and beyond the kitchen is the porch and backyard. And Rio!!

The house is equipped with plenty of lovely white towels and incredibly luxurious 1200 count cotton sheets. 3 large screen TVs accommodate all tastes and Bose sound system was great for us to get "in the mood" for Jazz Fest. Kitchen counter with the 4 cool bar stools were perfect for gathering, planning, mapping and arguing (we are family, after all.....;-)

Can't wait to return for JazzFest next year!!

Great location, very comfortable spacious house

  • 4 of 5

The location of this house was absolutely perfect for our trip. We could easily walk to the CBD, the French Quarter, St. Charles street attractions, Magazine Street attractions. The house itself was pretty quiet with one caveat, the Inn next door can be quite loud on the weekends for those sleeping on that side of the house. The house is set up with all of the amenities you could need although a few more chairs for outside would be a great addition. We completely enjoyed our time with Rio, he was really entertaining and loved our taste in music! The kitchen was well stocked and had we needed to cook anything, we would have had everything we needed! One word of caution on the two bathrooms. Make sure you notice there is only one shower. We made it work but just need to be clear that coordination of showers is needed if you have quite a few people staying in the house. We would stay at this house again if the opportunity arises.

Some great places we enjoyed walking to: courtyard brewing for great beers, French truck coffee for delicious coffee, fat boy pantry for amazing sandwiches and surreys for fabulous brunch.

We loved this eclectic home on Magazine Street!

  • 4 of 5

I think we first were a little anxious about this neighborhood but after a few hours felt completely safe. The location was perfect for our son who was attending a conference at the convention center, it was an easy walk. We were a short walk away from the St Charles trolley and several excellent restaurants! Our young Seattle family loved this house. Our young grandkids had room to roam and especially loved Rio the parrot who lives on the back fence! It was perfect for our family and just so like New Orleans.

Great place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here during a work conference at the Convention Center. It was a great stay, we were able to walk almost everywhere we needed to go, and the house was beautiful! Loved the high ceilings and the cozy beds. I wish we had a chance to use the kitchen, because it was very nice and seemed to have everything we could have possibly needed. I would definitely stay here again.

Awesome

  • 5 of 5

This house is such a great place to stay! The double shot gun style home was just incredible. The kitchen has a lot of space, the master bedroom is huge, and the shower was amazing. This house is on a quiet street, but your able to walk and/or uber anywhere in town. Even the backyard has awesome plant. Very dog friendly! The owner Keith is also easy to work with!
