About Carmen Kiefer
We have 7 children with only one left at home. We both work full time and keep busy during our time off with our animals and hobby farm. We love our peaceful setting and view, and we like to share it with others.

Wonderful stay on the farm!
Carmen's cottage is charming, clean and had everything we needed. Our grandchildren loved all the animals (especially the cats) and exploring the farm. We enjoyed a delicious breakfast both days compliments of Carmen. We all felt very welcomed by Carmen, Scott and family and look forward to a return visit!
Very accommodating. Nice play to stay. Grandkids loved the darn as we live on one
Nice cute home. Respectful of your privacy. Enjoyed our stay
We stayed a couple nights, so a short stay but a good one. As others have mentioned this property is on a hobby farm, which I think means all the work without the profits. Cattle, horses, pigs and piglets, chickens, roosters, turkeys, cats, cats and cats. And Lulu the friendly lab who probably runs the place. Peaceful setting with plenty of critters to watch. Breakfast is served on weekends and it was terrific. House was very comfortable and extremely well-appointed. Good tv and internet which is a concern in a rural area. We took our dogs (Cocker and Bichon) with us for the first time and they were fascinated by the cats and were comfortable a few minutes after arrival. If you have never done a country getaway this would be a good place to start. We’ll be back.
Thank you Millers we loved having you stay!
Farm life is good life!
We had a quick stop in Iowa on a weekend trip and wish we could have stayed longer!
Being totally transparent, the house was not impeccably clean. A little dust in forgotten corners, water spots on the shower doors and an odor from the back enclosed porch were by no means deal breakers. For the high maitenance, you have been reminded that this is a farm...
On to the pros, this place oozes charm! The house is well decorated and well kept with so many historical features and fantastic views from the porch. Carmen, Scott and the animals were all wonderful hosts!!! Our stay was brief but very relaxing. If we are ever in the area again we plan to return.
Thank you for staying!
Apologies for the dust etc. I appreciate the feedback and will take care of those issues!
Hope to see you soon
Fun for the kids
We enjoyed our stay! We met here with another family and our kids were 4,3,18 months and 8 months. The kids really enjoyed the animals and helping do "chores", feeding the cows and all the kitties and playing fetch with lulu. The campfire was fun and the breakfast was amazing. THhe house was clean but be prepared for the crisp farm smell! We loved Scott and our kids really enjoyed being with him! Thank you!
Thank you for staying! We loved your adorable kids!
Lovely, Relaxing Stay
Spent a couple days in mid-July at this lovely house, while visiting a long time friend. The house is out in the country, about 5 miles from Kalona, a small town with some very nice people, shops, and places to eat. The house was exceptionally clean and neat and very comfortably and charmingly decorated. It's an older home, with wood floors, an updated bath, and a good sized country style kitchen. Spent a good bit of time in the enclosed porch that is surrounded by windows. A relaxing room, with a view of the owner's farm and livestock. Night stars from the front yard-brilliant! Overall, a very fine place to stay. Recommended.
Thank you for staying with us Joanne! You were an amazing guest!
