The cabin is set in 120 private acres which will be yours to roam while you are visiting. With 1500 feet of native lake shore, you might not encounter another person the duration of your stay! We have spent the last year transforming one of the first cabins on the lake into our own personal hide-away. Just 30 feet from the lake, you will feel like your sleeping on the water! Newly landscaped to restore the area around the cabin to native shoreline habitat. Equipped with big-screen TV, cable, and high-speed internet. This property isn't for everyone, but if your idea of vacation includes the words glamping, secluded, get-away-from-it-all, quiet, and private, than it might be for you!
The cabin has a sleeping loft with two twin xl beds that can be pushed together for a king. Downstairs there is a nice sized sectional couch with an ottoman that converts into a cot. There is a small kitchenette downstairs that includes a microwave and a refrigerator. Bathroom facilities are primitive (i.e. there is an outhouse). After a long day on the trails or in the lake, relax in the wood-fired sauna. We have set up a unique deck with a hot tub and solar shower available in the summer months. Snowmobile in/out in the winter months.
Please note that the cabin itself is about a 1/4 mile drive from the main road. There is a steep incline to drive the last 500 ft down to the cabin. Those with rear-wheel drive should consider parking at the top of the hill and walking to the shoreline. The cabin is primitive, and you will need to bring your own drinking water. There is a charcoal and gas grill on site. Unless otherwise arranged, you will need to bring your own bedding and pack out your garbage. In doing this, I will waive all cleaning fees..
Jeremy and I grew up in Minnesota, but now live in North Dakota. When we began looking for a lake cabin, we knew we wanted that 'up north' feel. When we walked on this property, we were awe-struck. You will be amazed by the changes in elevation, the pristine shore-line, and the peace and quiet.
We thought the cabin and the area was peaceful and lovely. The beds were very comfortable, the outhouse was roomy, clean and well-light, we really enjoyed the jacuzzi, we really appreciated the fans. The lake was super clean and overall pretty quiet. We saw great wildlife including eagles, loon, deer, hawks and snakes and we caught lots of fish. So glad we brought mosquito repellant.
Swimming was not very realistic for us as the bank is high (even by the dedicated “swimming area”) and the bottom of the lake was full of rocks and/or plants. We thought the jacuzzi instructions could of been more thorough (we learned more about how to operate it via Google). It was pretty challenging getting the rowboat in and out of the lake (high bank with lots of tall grass) but we made it happen. The solar shower was fun - a little cold but fun.
Recommended additions would be forks (there were none) spoons (there was one) a cutting board, coffee mugs, an ottoman and a reading lamp. There were plenty of plates and knives and other supplies such as soap, cleaner, toilet paper and paper towels.
Not having running water in the cabin wasn’t a big deal for us - but if it did have running water and if the boat had a motor, we would likely be back every year.
I chose this cabin as the location to propose to the love of my life.
It was the exact setting that I was looking for! The cabin is nestled into the woods on the edge of beautiful elbow lake. The location provides all the solitude and tranquility that one could ask for on vacation! Your nearest neighbors are on the other side of the lake and your more likely to see wildlife than people!
The inside of the cabin is rustic, cozy, and very charming. It was the perfect location to sip hot coco and enjoy the cabin's beautiful view.
I knew in advance that the cabin didn't have a full kitchen so I brought a convection oven and Coleman stove which allowed me to prepare all of our meals. My remedy for running water was a 5 gallon solar shower which I stored in the cupboard above the sink with an on/off valve. I would also suggest bringing a board game because there aren't any in the cabin.
If you enjoy the woods and can enjoy the rustic lifestyle....THIS PLACE IS FOR YOU!
This cabin was great. Nice and private and, let's be honest, it has a hot tub! The property was beautiful. I do wish we could have swam off the dock, but there is plenty of good options for swimming around there. We spent the days playing guitar around the fire and the nights relaxing in the tub. The cabin itself is small and the loft ladder is just a pull down-type stair, so if you have mobility issues it might not work for you (unless you bring your own bed). I'd go back!
My husband and I had a very nice time here. I wanted to be somewhere where we would be right on the water. This was awesome for that! Caught a nice bass right off the dock. Had a nice time relaxing in the hot tub. Sauna was HOT and amazing! There was no indoor plumbing, which I knew going into the trip. The outhouse was very clean and not scary. Once we got home I really appreciated running water! The location was great. Went into Park Rapids for a day of fun shopping!!! We were thinking this would even be a fun place to go in the winter!
My boyfriend and I booked the cabin looking for a few days of relative isolation, meaning we wanted trees/space between us and our neighbours. We found it here! We could see the cottages across the lake, but could not see or hear anyone on our side of the lake unless we were in the canoe paddling around the bend. When we did happen upon neighbours, they were super friendly. Everything was as described... the outhouse was in great shape and is clearly well maintained, charcoal grills were available for us, and lots of previous renters had left behind items for communal use. While you shouldn’t rely on there being extra paper plates or cutlery, it’s nice when it’s there ‘just in case’. Sara checked in on us by text shortly after arriving to make sure things were going smoothly. When we were getting our evening fires started, we had access to lots of kindling all around us. Tip: bring your own means to cut them up. One of my favourite aspects was walking one minute north of the cabin to our own private swimming hole. While weedy, it was not slimy, and with a life jacket on, it was one of the most serene swims/floats I could hope for.
There were a few things that we would describe as neutral issues for us, because we didn’t use them and can’t comment much. We didn’t use the hot tub or sauna because it was so hot out already! We didn’t turn on the tv and didn’t use the boat on the property since we brought our own canoe. The wifi wasn’t working but we had no need for it and didn't bother mentioning it to Sara.
If I was looking for a negative, it would be that the kitchen really does have just the basics, so bring what you need and don’t assume it will be at the cabin. Such as a coffee maker and toaster. To get to the bedroom, you pull a ladder down from the ceiling and go up to the loft where there are twin beds. It was quaint, but in the heat of summer with the window A/C unit running and the fan upstairs, it is still pretty warm. But we managed.
Definitely would recommend this place and we are looking forward to staying there again for a longer stay!
