The owners of the cottage, Hannah and Keith were very helpful and provided a warm welcome to the cottage. There was a folder with much useful information on the area. The cottage is set in a very quiet and tranquil location, nestled in the upper valley with three or so other houses, but with a couple of larger villlages (with small shop) only a few mins drive away. It was very clean and tidy and had all the things you need including a washing machine which was very useful. The kitchen was well equiped with all the necessary gadgets and utensils, the bedroom very comfortable and nicely decorated. The living space was really spacious with huge inglenook firplace with a woodburner which, unfortunately, we were unable to make use of due to the hot weather. The wet shower room is compact but very clean and stylish. The cottage is set at the edge of a large plot which gives a lovely sense of space.
One of the real delights was eating outside in the evening on the decking area (bbq and fuel included - nice touch!) which provided the most beautiful views down the valley to the west with the setting sun. A real time to savour!
A good network of roads provides easy access around the area for walks and cycling, and there are some beautiful villages to visit, including the renowned Salers. There are some very nice restaurants in the area. We tried one in Fontanges, the Auberge de l'Aspre, which was excellent.
If peace and quiet, and a great sense of tranquility are what you are after then this is a fabulous getaway. Probably the only thing missing for me was a wifi connection but if you are trying to 'getaway' perhaps this is not such a bad thing.
