A home with heart!
'Connells House' was the perfect base for our family get together. Lots of sociable space for the 7 of us to relax in. Very well equipped house, with lots of extra touches .............. luxurious toiletries, and extra 'bits n bobs', spices and kitchen condiments etc. Lovely, friendly and informative welcome from Karla, plenty of local info/maps in the house too. Dulleek was an ideal base for some family tree exploration in the local area. Lovely village for a walk around and friendly greeting from staff & locals in 'The Grayhound' pub. Connells House is a much loved, real jem of a property! A credit to Karla and those that were involved in the restoration project to save such a beautiful property. Can wholeheartedly recommend. Thanks so much - hope to return one day. From '7 go to Ireland' Maura, Rob, Caroline, Lizzie, Ryan, Andy & Su. October 2018

Amazing cottage and AMAZING host!
We stayed here for a family wedding. Karla was an amazing host and the cottage is amazingly specified and so comfortable for a big family. I couldn't be more positive about both. 100% recommend and we will definitely be back!

Even better than expected!
We stayed at Connell's house at the weekend. Before hand Karla was brilliant at keeping us updated before hand and when we arrived we knew we'd booked somewhere special. The house is gorgeous, huge kitchen-diner, and great living room for us all to hang out in. The rest of the house is super too and we were delighted. Everything you need is provided as well, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, loo roll, cleaning products, drying racks, kitchen essentials, and even cotton pads and cotton buds in the bathrooms! Easy to give another 5* review to this accommodation, would highly, highly recommend.

Fantastic house in a convenient location
My husband and I, our 3 boys and my mother and Auntie have had a fantastic two weeks in Connolls' s House. The house is furnished to a fabulous standard- spotlessly clean and very comfy. The location for us was excellent- close to all in our family. In Drogheda, Naven, Trim, Slane and Dunboyne. It is also easy to get to Dublin- we decided to use the Park and ride at the Red Cow and hop on the Lucas (tram). I would 100% reccomend this house to anyone looking for accommodation in Co Meath.

Beautifully restored cottage with all the amenities
Karla has really thought of everything for a comfortable stay. The cottage is beautifully restored and decorated to the highest standard. The beds were comfortable with luxurious bedding and we wanted for nothing during our stay. It is also very family friendly (we were a large family group of 5 adults and 5 children) with plenty of space for everyone. The cottage is perfectly suited to explore Dublin, the Boyne Valley and is just 90 minutes from Belfast. I can not recommend the cottage highly enough and hope we can return for another visit in the future.

About the host

Host profile image
I'm a furniture designer and have a passion for cleverly designed and beautifully made furniture and objects. I hope this passion comes across in Connell's House and Barn, which has been lovingly restored over a two year period. As well as designing furniture I also have a very keen interest in Irish and Scottish vernacular architecture, hence why I restored this beautiful old derelict thatched cottage, which was a dream come true!

I live twenty minutes from Connell House & Barn, so I'll always been on hand to help out guests and answer any queries. I'm very house proud, so the House & Barn will be squeaky clean when you arrive!

Why they chose this property

Connell's House and Barn was a derelict building when my family acquired it. It's the oldest building in Duleek village and was in existence during the famous 'Battle of the Boyne' in 1690. The Connell family lived here for several generations, hence the name, and it holds many memories for the people in the village still to this day.

It took two years to restore and re-build Connell's House and Barn and we are delighted to have saved this vernacular building for future generations to enjoy.

What makes this property unique

This is a genuine period thatched cottage, but it has all the comfort and warmth of a modern home, whilst retaining the character of the original building. It's furnished with an eclectic style of furniture and accessories and has some really comfortable beds, beautiful bed linen, white fluffy towels and great showers. A truly unique holiday home!
