Why Rosemary Butler chose Bishop Auckland
This family house is well situated to explore the wonders of the area and region. Bishop Auckland is going through exciting times as Auckland Castle is developed into a major visitor attraction. "Kynren" is one of the Rough Guides Top 10 new world attractions for 2016. A new Spanish and Latin American Art Gallery (with the Prado) and Coal miners Gallery are also being created and lots of local arts and crafts emerging. Binchester Roman Fort gives fascinating insights into the Roman world. This adds to an already beautiful area of outstanding natural beauty in Weardale and Teesdale alongside the ever improving Durham coastline. Durham City is a world heritage site full of places to explore and discover plus it's beautiful Botanic Gardens We are the home of railway heritage with the Stockton-Darlington line the world's first railway. Escomb is the most complete Saxon church in England. Towns like Darlington, Stockton and Hartlepool offer surprising delights. Newcastle, Gateshead and Sunderland all offer many attractions.
What makes this House unique
"Kynren" is just 10 minutes walk away so we are the nearest holiday house to let to it. This is a town house from which you can walk to a range of restaurants and pubs as well as Auckland Castle and Park and surrounding countryside. You can reach us easily from Bishop Auckland Station and Bus Station so if you do not have a car we are a base from which you can explore. We aim to offer excellent value for money. As we live nearby we are able to keep our own eyes on the property and welcome our guests. Having used self catering ourselves over the years we have aimed to equip the house as we like to find others.

This was our second time at the house and again we could not fault it. It felt as welcoming as the first time we came and stayed. There was a welcome tray with hot cross buns, eggs from her hens which we thoroughly enjoyed, bottle of wine and a Easter egg for our daughter. We had lovely weather which helped. Thank you Rosemary for helping make it a lovely Easter break with the family. We have said that we would not hesitate to book again when we come up that way.
Fantastic property. Highly recommend
Visiting family. Used to stay with relatives but now more difficult so found this lovely property which was ideal. Very homely and comfortable. Great location for us too and very close to shops as well as major routes in and out of Bishop.
Property was very clean and a lovely welcome card waiting for us along with all the information we needed.
100% will be staying here again.
Thank you for staying and I'm glad you liked the house. My aim is to make it suitable for all types of travellers and equip it well. Thank you too for the reveiw - I look forward to your return.
Lovely holiday home in a beautiful part of the country with easy walk to Kynren.
The cottage is spacious, clean, well-equipped and has a good standard of decor. Rosemary had kindly provided us with milk, biscuits, tea, coffee, wine and eggs from her own chickens as a welcome gift. She popped in the day after we arrived to check all was well. We instantly felt at home here and had a great week. Relaxing in the garden room at the end of each afternoon, overlooking the fabulous view was a delight. It was an easy walk to attend the wonderful show of Kynren. There are DVDs and games plus facilities for washing and ironing. There is easy access by car to places such as Raby Castle, Hadrian's Wall, the Bowes Museum and even across to Cumbria. We loved our stay here, would love to stay again and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone.
A superb find!
Super property - beautifully clean and well equipped. A great base for exploring the North East. Lovely welcoming touches made by the host. Any queries were responded to immediately. Will definitely use again.
Highpoint in Bishop Auckland
The house is a very substantial old property, beautifully appointed and very clean with modern kitchen ( we have never stayed anywhere else that has such an impressive complement of utensils and sundries etc.). The nicely decorated lounge has a lovely cosy feel and is a great space to relax after a day touring. The bedrooms are all spacious , especially the front bayed one which we eventually chose to sleep in. Although there were only 2 of us this house would be great for families. The bathroom is spacious and modern with a good shower over the bath and there is also a downstairs cloakroom. Although we didn't use it, there is a big garden room ( with loads of seating and floor space and a cupboard filled with games etc.) with access to a decked dining area and far reaching views over the countryside. The old town, castle etc.. is only a few minutes walk from this house. Road access to the surrounding countryside, historic towns, gardens, NT properties, the coast and lots of other interesting and fun things to do is on the doorstep. .All-in-all a great place to stay and with such a lot for us still to explore we shall return. ps- a fulsome welcome tray was a lovely surprise.
