About Thomas R and Bridget L Lamont

Our children grew up loving this cottage during the summers and we often enjoyed Thanksgivings with extended family and friends here too. We're beach lovers and so the easy access to the beach and lake was a must. We've come to appreciate all that Leelanau County has to offer-nature; cherry and apple orchards; sunsets; wine country; gourmet eating; hiking; kayaking; and a wonderful quality of life.

Thomas R and Bridget L Lamont purchased this cottage in 1990

Why Thomas R and Bridget L Lamont chose Northern Michigan

We rented the cottage for a number of years with good friends and found ourselves introducing more and more people to the area. Eventually we purchased the cottage and added an addition and a new kitchen. We are pleased to be members of the Leelanau Conservancy and love their adage to 'save a little bit of Leelanau.' This cottage is a a very special place to us.

What makes this cottage unique

You catch your first amazing glimpse of stunning Lake Michigan as you drive down the hill; you walk to the front door and see nothing but blue green shining lake waters as you look through the foyer; you enter the kitchen with its wall of windows looking out onto the lake and beach; and you continue on the screened in porch facing the water and say this is just amazing! This is one of the few homes built on the dune.

Fabulous Beach Rental

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful property with gorgeous lake views, beautiful sunsets, terrific beach access, and a stunning screened porch - just amazing.

The cottage is lovely, updated, spacious with room for families to spread out and relax. It is the perfect beach rental!

Everything was clean and well appointed just as described. The property is a short drive from Northport but it is hard to leave the cottage when you can spend the days swimming and walking the beach!

A wonderful beach experience that exceeds expectations

  • 5 of 5

"Can't Beat the View" is as advertised. It was a "wow" moment for us all on the afternoon we arrived. Grandkids loved the beautiful beach and the waves -- calmer than we're used to on the Atlantic but still an "ocean" experience, sans the sharks. When we weren't on the beach or sightseeing in the area, we spent most waking hours on the large screened-in porch (featuring amazing sunsets). Kitchen is well equipped and the rooms comfortable and cool. Entire house is well appointed and maintained. We will return soon.

VERY relaxing week on the beach in Northport

  • 5 of 5

We have been coming to this cottage for 10 years and it keeps getting better every year.

Private beach is awesome and we had two days with very calm water on the lake and we were able to enjoy the water. Weather was perfect and had one of the most amazing colorful sunsets.

Got a chance to play the new Northport Creek GC which is 5 min away from the cottage. Been open for 3 years and is maturing quite nice.

Each year we are all able to relax and recharge ourselves.

Thanks for another fun week.

Heaven on Earth

  • 5 of 5

This place was perfect. The rooms were lovely and 3 bathrooms! Sit out on the screened-in porch and admire the lake. it never gets old. Or relax in the living room and enjoy the view out the window. The kitchen decor is so cute and nice and big. When the setting sun shines in your eyes when you're making dinner, lower the shades and you can still see the water without being blinded - genius! I loved it.

we were in heaven

  • 5 of 5

Words cannot discribe how wonderful this cottage is. It's set so close to the water that when you are standing in the kitchen looking out the huge picture windows, it looks as if you are floating. The sunsets are absolutely amazing. The neighbors very welcoming. And the house is perfectly decorated.

My husband and I stayed for a week with our two young children, ages 3 and 15 months, as well as my mother and father-in-law, and we all had a blast. A nice feature was that my in-laws had their own private room off of the back to retreat to when they wanted to get away for a while. The only small issue we had was that the kids room was centrally located - right off the kitchen - and the door isn't solid, so for families with really young kids like ours, I would recommend bringing a fan or something for white noise on days when you can't open the windows to use the waves to drown out interior noise while they sleep. Our kids did get used to it after a few days, however, and were usually so exhausted that they slept just fine most days. Definitely not a deal breaker.

The beach is such a short distance from the back door, and because the weather was so wonderful, we spent most of our time with our toes in the sand. Rock collecting was a favorite past time for everyone. We took the kayak out on a perfectly calm day and could see to the bottom of the lake. We spent time in town at the marina and enjoyed the park, were able to shop the farmers market, and even caught a summer concert.

We took a day trip to Sleeping Bear Dunes and my husband and I had a date night in Sutton's Bay where we ate at Martha's- both highly recommend.

Our 3 year old keeps asking when he gets to go back to the beach house. Wonderful memories were made this summer in Northport, and we hope to take the kids back again. It was truly the best vacation we have ever had!

If you stumbled across this listing, and its available, then consider yourself lucky. It's a gem!

Awesome View!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

The rear section of the house entirely faces the lake Michigan, with a breathtaking view. Its a wonderful house, very well decorated, extremely peaceful, and the only sound you hear is of the waves crashing onto the shores.

We had a very good time.
