About the property

Character barn conversion sleeping up to 11 in 6 bedrooms. Close to beach.

Higher Mullacott Farm Cottages where Dolly's Barn is located are nestled within the foothills of the North Devon coast, providing the ideal country properties to explore the wider North Devon area and Exmoor. With buildings dating back to the time of the Domesday Book, the cottages are able to combine period charm with modern day elegance, think wood beans meet contemporary decor.

Dolly's Barn sleeps 11 (+ cot) in six bedrooms, and provides the ultimate get away cottage for large families, and groups of friends - all set in a property full of period features.

Lovingly restored the cottage sits within 3.5 acres of communal gardens and paddocks, making it the perfect property to escape to the country. With its excellent location, it is easy to explore North Devon and beyond from Higher Mullacott Farm. There is even a children's play area onsite for the little ones to enjoy.

The beaches at Woolacombe, Croyde and Saunton are all less than a 15 minute drive, and Exmoor with its pretty villages and rugged landscape is half an hour away.

Ideal for larger family groups and celebrations, Dolly's Barn has plenty of space and character with sloping ceilings, beams and stone walls that beautifully combine with modern elegance. Lee able bodied guests can also enjoy the cottage with a downstairs double bedroom complete with en-suite shower room.

The large open plan lounge/kitchen area has three large comfortable sofas clustered around a LPG wood burner. The kitchen is fully equipped with a large range electric oven and two fridges, meals can then be enjoyed at the wooden dining table, which easily seats the whole family for relaxed meals or special occasions.

Upstairs, there are five further bedrooms, a double with en-suite bathroom, two pretty twin bedrooms, a lovely single with Victorian style day bed, and the Master Bedroom featuring a king-size bed and en-suite shower room. There is also a family bathroom with bath and electric shower. Outside the cottage there are places to enjoy alfresco meals or watch children play.

For groups of up to 17, Dolly's Barn can be rented with its sister cottage Aggie's that sleeps up to six in three bedrooms and is located just across the courtyard.

Please note unfortunately, we are unable to welcome pets at Higher Mullacott Farm Cottages.

A great place for a reunion

  • 5 of 5

The property was perfect for our needs - that was the view of all 9 of us. There were enough bedrooms and having several bathrooms meant there weren't queues. We all liked the open plan kitchen/lounge area which was very communal and meant that everyone could be involved in the conversation - no-one isolated in a kitchen for lengths of time!

Tim the owner gave us some brilliant suggestions for things to do. We followed his suggestion for a place to walk and have Sunday lunch. The walk was one of the best I'd ever done - stunning coastal views and the pub was a great place to finish and have a meal.

Thanks to the owners for a great stay.

New year holiday with friends/families

  • 4 of 5

This was our second group visit to these cottages to celebrate New year and it was as good as we remembered. A relaxed atmosphere, great living room & kitchen to socialise as a group. The swimming pool was again a big hit with the whole group along with Max, the resident dog who was particularly well trained! Richard & Ally were as lovely as before & the eggs were superb.

Fully recommend!

Dollys Barn-lovely

  • 5 of 5

We have had a great weekend in this lovely, warm, friendly, barn conversion. It was suitable for one of the group who has mobility issues. It had everything we needed.

Perfect location, very well presented cottage, very spacious but still has a cosy cottage feel.

  • 5 of 5

I hired the cottage for my wife’s 50th birthday and surprised her with other family members arriving. The owners could not have made us all feel so welcome and kept the secret. There was plenty of room for all 10 of us and still a bed unused. The open plan kitchen and lounge was fantastic for the gathering. Apart from the cottage being so perfect the owners did some small touches that just made the stay special. We were greeted by name, flowers on arrival and birthday card for wife and then newspaper delivered. I would recommend to anyone to stay here. Thank you for making the stay special.

Review of the area. Ilfracombe just 10 min drive away. Great fishing harbour worth visiting. Lovely beaches nearby well worth going to at Woolacombe, Croyde and this has National Trust so has free parking.

Dolly's Barn -

  • 3 of 5

First impressions very good. Gardens were lovely & the children all enjoyed the play area. Owners were very helpful and provided a tin of cakes on arrival.

Unfortunately all the double bed mattresses were past their shelf life, this caused a few backaches.

The wet room shower could do with an overhaul, either boiling hot or freezing cold, and the extractor fan did not seem to work so did not use after the second attempt.

The property was very clean and tidy, a good base for surrounding attractions.

Owner's Response: Thank you for reviewing your stay at Dolly's Barn. We are glad that you found the property clean and tidy, and that your children were able to enjoy the children's play area. I can confirm the extractor fan has now been replaced, we are sorry that it broke during your stay and wish we had known so we could have solved the problem whilst you were in the property. Unfortunately, as explained when you were at Dolly's Barn there is very little we can do with regards to the water pressure in the wet room as this is a common issue in rural areas. Kind Regards, Amanda Property Manager Dolly's Barn

Other Activities:

There are many excellent beaches within only a few miles of Higher Mullacott Farm where Dolly's Barn is located offering excellent places to enjoy a number of water sports, including surfing and kite-surfing. Many of the beaches also offer lessons to beginners, so it doesn't matter what your ability is. For jet-ski lessons, head to Watermouth Cove.

Higher Mullacott Farm is surrounded by golf clubs, including Ilfracombe and Woolacombe, as well as the world renowned championship links course at Saunton Sands and across the estuary at Westward Ho!

Dolly's Barn is one of three countryside cottages at Higher Mullacott Farm. Its location provides guests with easy access to both the seaside town of Ilfracombe, with its amenities and restaurants but also the popular village and beach of Woolacombe.

Perched on top of the valley which leads down to Ilfracombe, Dolly's Barn is only a short drive from many of North Devon's popular attractions. The award winning Woolacombe beach is only a few minutes' drive from the cottage and is perfect for all the family with gorgeous golden sand, clean blue seas and all within easy reach of the village's shops, bars and restaurants. Just a little further along the coast is Croyde, which is a haven for surfers, and Saunton Sands, which is backed by the Braunton Burrows, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Ilfracombe itself is close at hand and is home to several restaurants, however it is the Olive Room that many will recommend, this Michelin star restaurant is run by Tom Carr and is well worth a visit, as is 11, The Quay, which is owned by contemporary artist Damien Hirst, who also provided the seaside town with 'Verity', a bronze clad statue, which overlooks the harbour.

Other attractions within Ilfracombe, include its theatre, cinema and harbour from which you can set sail on a sea safari or head for Lundy Island, which sits just off the coastline and is great for snorkelling, as well as coastal walks and bird watching.

Exmoor National Park is less than a 30-minute drive from the cottage and is ideal for a day trip with cosy tea rooms serving classic cream teas and plenty of wildlife to spot whether you are travelling by car, bike or foot. Combine your visit with a trip to Lynton and Lynmouth, where Exmoor meets the sea and ride the historic water powered Cliff Railway.

For families staying at the cottage there are several attractions within easy reach, some of our favourites include Watermouth Castle, Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park and Exmoor Zoo. All nearby is the National Trust managed Arlington Court, RHS Rosemoor and Broomhill Sculpture Gardens. If you are interested in visiting any of the local attractions it is well worth visiting their websites first as many offer discounts if tickets are bought online in advance.

For guests attending a wedding at the nearby Tunnels Beach, Dolly's is only a short drive away, and taxis are available within the local area if you don't want to drive.
