About the property

Three Bedroom Cottage, Sleeps 6

Smugglers Cottage so brilliantly placed for couples wanting to stay whatever the season or families who want to arrive, dump their belongings and head straight to the beach armed with buckets and spades! The buzzing Harbour Beach is practically on your doorstep, sandy, sheltered small-child friendly Porthgwidden Beach is just a 5-minute walk, and the rolling Atlantic surf at Porthmeor Beach is just a few minute's walk further through the cobbled backstreets.

This traditional fisherman's cottage is arranged over three floors, with both of the double bedrooms having views over the harbour and the beach (when the tide is out). The living area and kitchen are on the ground floor, stairs go up to the second floor with a wide landing area to hang coats and tuck away bags. On the same level are a family bathroom and a double bedroom with en suite WC and basin, plus a bay window seat where you can sit with a book or a glass of wine and watch the comings and goings of the beach and the boats bobbing in the harbour. Up wooden stairs to the third floor, are a twin bedroom (at the rear of the house) and another double bedroom with fabulous sea and harbour views.

Smugglers will make you feel instantly at home and at ease, it is a cottage where you want to settle and use like a second home and a base whilst exploring St Ives. The nearest restaurant is a minute's walk away where you can dine and gaze at the harbour scenes or, if you fancy a pint of Doom Bar at a typical Cornish pub then The Sloop Inn is 150 metres away where again, if the weather is glorious, you can sit outside and watch the fishing boats, spot the odd seal or dolphin or simply observe the variety of St Ives life.

Bed linen and towels are provided but please bring along your own beach towels! There is free WiFi throughout the house. There are local shops for your groceries just a few minute's walk away or local supermarkets will deliver.

Cosy cottage

  • 3 of 5

Comfortable well equipped cottage. Great views from two bedrooms. Bedrooms and bathroom good size. Felt art work needs modernising. Lounge small for number of bedrooms.

Lovely cottage in a great position

  • 4 of 5

Lovely cottage in a great position. Very clean. We did however find the beds and pillows uncomfortable.. As it was festival week we found the parking to be very difficult, more so than last year when we stayed in St Ives.

wonderful location, adequate accommodation

  • 3 of 5

This cottage is fantastically situated for all of the beaches and the town of St Ives. It was wonderful to have a beach on the doorstep. It's just off the "Main Drag", and surprisingly quiet. I wouldn't recommend bringing a car though. The roads are very narrow, and traversed by all the pedestrians. We came by train which was perfect - it's about a ten minute scenic walk to the station.

The house itself is narrow and there's no garden. The double bedrooms are lovely and bright. The beds are comfortable and there's lots of bedding. We particularly liked the touch sensitive lamps.

The washing machine/dryer worked very well, but the oven was difficult to get the hang of - basic instructions would have been useful. The en suit toilet was broken, but was fixed by Monday afternoon, which was adequate. Nobody was impressed with the shower - it was neither warm nor powerful. Overall though, the house was in good condition and well maintained.

I would recommend this cottage for a family of different generations provided they are all ok to climb steep steps. St Ives is a wonderful place to stay, and the place is in good working order and not too expensive.

Fantastic location

  • 4 of 5

This was our first time staying in St Ives and we were not disappointed. We had a lovely week with 5 adults, 1 child aged 3 and our 2 small dogs. The property was lovely; superbly located just off the harbour and near the dog beach and only a very short walk to the surfing beach and Porthgwidden (sheltered family beach). The teenagers went off to surf; the toddler played buckets and spades on Porthgwidden and much time was spent browsing the shops and walking the dogs on the dog beach, the headland and all 3 main beaches at low tide after 7 pm - a fantastic playground for them. The cottage was well-equipped and clean. Particularly good was the upstairs space. It is a little tight in the lounge but we didn't spend too much time in there all at one time so it was feasible. Washer/dryer was excellent and well used as there is no outside space to hang washing or dry anything. There is a large free-standing clothes dryer which we located on the large first floor landing and that did the job for damp beach gear. We are looking to come to St Ives again but will be looking for a slightly bigger lounge plus a small courtyard/garden for the dogs. Orange Roofs were excellent - fast communication with any queries and we would book with them again. All-in-all an excellent week.

Beautiful cottage

We had a lovely time here in this beautiful cottage. Everything you need and also extra touches such as tea, coffee, milk , sugar and biscuits. Couldn't have asked for more. Would most certainly recommend.
