Ponckle’s Place is a perfectly placed retreat in St Ives; an original and traditional St Ives building being a converted sail loft, right in the oldest part of St. Ives. It is a place to relax in easy comfort, surrounded by gorgeous and original beams and floorboards as well as one-off pieces of the infamous artist Ponckle's artwork. You can drift away to the sounds of St Ives on squishy sofas and enjoy the views of Smeaton's pier lapped by the incoming tide or take a very short stroll into St Ives town to soak up all it has to offer.
This apartment has so many original features to feel at home with, it has the mod cons to make life easier, it has the comfort of quality bedding and towels to ensure a good night’s sleep and that familiarity that makes you just want to sink into the sofa and breathe deeply. Ponckle's is so close to all of St Ives restaurants and cafes if you prefer not to cook but it's also a place to eat in company whilst catching glimpses of fishing boats in the harbour or a family crabbing off Smeaton’s Pier. It’s also a place to feel that you deserve to enjoy, luxuriate in spoiling yourself, and settle into. Whether it's during the sun-drenched summer months, doors thrown wide open onto small balconies letting in the warmth while you breathe in the sea air or cosying up in front of a woodburner with a cup or glass of your favourite drink and protected from the wintry chills, Ponckle's Place has everything you need.
Ponckle’s is named after its former resident, the popular, eccentric and unmistakeable artist Ponckle Fletcher. Ponckle was a true character in St Ives, known for her pieces of art which featured cats and St Ives scenes. You will find some of Ponckle’s work in almost every room, from hand painted glass on the front door to the double-sided screen.
Restaurants, cafes, galleries, shops, beaches and even hired deck chairs are all within a few sandy feet of the apartment, as is the allocated parking space near Porthgwidden beach. Step off the main thoroughfare of Back Road East in Downalong, through a large blue door into a shared, covered courtyard where slate steps lead you to the privacy and uniqueness of Ponckle’s.
