Ponckle’s Place is a perfectly placed retreat in St Ives; an original and traditional St Ives building being a converted sail loft, right in the oldest part of St. Ives. It is a place to relax in easy comfort, surrounded by gorgeous and original beams and floorboards as well as one-off pieces of the infamous artist Ponckle's artwork. You can drift away to the sounds of St Ives on squishy sofas and enjoy the views of Smeaton's pier lapped by the incoming tide or take a very short stroll into St Ives town to soak up all it has to offer.
This apartment has so many original features to feel at home with, it has the mod cons to make life easier, it has the comfort of quality bedding and towels to ensure a good night’s sleep and that familiarity that makes you just want to sink into the sofa and breathe deeply. With two bedrooms and two bathrooms, if you visit as friends or a small family, there is plenty of room and privacy to have your own space. As a couple, Ponckle’s will allow you to stretch your legs and enjoy a well finished apartment in the heart of Downalong, St Ives. If you want to bring along your four-legged friend then Ponckle’ welcomes them along but only during spring, autumn and winter (October to Easter).
Ponckle's is so close to all of St Ives restaurants and cafes if you prefer not to cook but it's also a place to eat in company whilst catching glimpses of fishing boats in the harbour or a family crabbing off Smeaton’s Pier. It’s also a place to feel that you deserve to enjoy, luxuriate in spoiling yourself, and settle into. Whether it's during the sun-drenched summer months, doors thrown wide open onto small balconies letting in the warmth while you breathe in the sea air or cosying up in front of a woodburner with a cup or glass of your favourite drink and protected from the wintry chills, Ponckle's Place has everything you need.
Ponckle’s is named after its former resident, the popular, eccentric and unmistakeable artist Ponckle Fletcher. Ponckle was a true character in St Ives, known for her pieces of art which featured cats and St Ives scenes. You will find some of Ponckle’s work in almost every room, from hand painted glass on the front door to the double-sided screen.
Restaurants, cafes, galleries, shops, beaches and even hired deck chairs are all within a few sandy feet of the apartment, as is the allocated parking space near Porthgwidden beach. Step off the main thoroughfare of Back Road East in Downalong, through a large blue door into a shared, covered courtyard where slate steps lead you to the privacy and uniqueness of Ponckle’s.
Ponckle's Place is managed by Orange Roofs, a small and local agent offering a personal and friendly service for those wanting a real St Ives experience.

Beautiful cottage, situated perfectly within the gem that is St Ives
Well appointed cottage with all modern conveniences and comforts that you could hope for.
No more than a 5 minute walk to the car park and only seconds away from a number of beaches (including all year around dog friendly beaches!). The town itself is also only minutes away with plenty of excellent restaurants and take aways to choose from (we would strongly recommend Harbour Fish and Chips for their menu, as well as Blas Burgerworks, Caffe Pasta and several others).
We would definitely recommend this cottage and location for those looking for a perfect home away from home.
Word of caution - St Ives streets are often very narrow and passing cars coming in the opposite direction is NOT possible, also manoeuvring around some corners (especially in larger cars) is not for drivers lacking in confidence!
Perfect in every way
Had a great stay at Ponckles Place, very comfortable, well equipped and a stones throw from the beautiful St Ives.
We were delighted that the information on the website and provided by Sam was accurate in every way and the standard of the property was very high.
The best thing for us was that the property was only a couple of minutes walk from St Ives harbour and a wide selection of restaurants which covered all budgets.
There were only 2 of us but feel that it is easily able to accommodate a family of four and it is so close to the beach.
The icing on the cake is the parking permit. This an allocated space and takes away all of the inherent problems trying to park in a very popular location.
If we come to St Ives again, this will be our no.1 choice.
Lovely cottage in the centre of St Ives
Great situation and beautifully refurbished internally. Didn't really use the kitchen but exceptionally well kitted out with just about everythng you could think of. Very good service from manager/owner.
A beautiful, apartment with lots of character..
We found ponkles place a real delight. The location is excellent being just a minutes walk from the harbour beach and no more than 5 minutes walk from porthmeor beach which is excellent for surfing or just chilling in the sun. There are plenty of restaurants, tea rooms and shops on the doorstep which made it very convenient if you don't want to drive far once there. The parking space , although a short walk from the apartment was a big added bonus too for us. The apartment itself was spotlessly clean and appeared to be newly updated with an extremely well equipped kitchen, including dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. Both bathrooms were great with a lovely freestanding bath in the ensuite and a good sized powerful shower in the other bathroom. We did have trouble finding ponkles place at first as it is hidden behind blue gates but the directions we were given by Orange roofs were accurate. We would definitely recommend Ponkles place as a wonderful retreat for a holiday in the gorgeous St Ives and would love to return. Oh and we loved the Ponkle works of art in the apartment, she was obviously a great character !
We are so delighted you loved Ponckle's - it's very hard not to, isn't it! We now add a photo of the large blue door from the street in the arrival information and we know that this has helped enormously. We look forward to welcoming you and your family back.
