Pleasant surroundings, the house was clean and comfortable.
Myself, I think this rates 5 stars. It’s a handsome custom home set at the base of the Huachuca (Wa-CHOO-kuh) mountains on a large, well-treed lot. To the west you can view Carr Peak rising about 4300 ft. above this home’s already significant elevation of about 4900 ft. If you don’t mind walking the shoulder of Hwy 92… I saw both bicyclists and walkers… then, only ½ mile south from your front door you can see both Carr Peak and neighboring Miller Peak, the highest point in the Huachuca and second highest point in Cochise county… almost 9500 ft above sea level.
Having dogs, we appreciated the surrounding chest-high wall, front and back (which doesn’t spoil the views one bit)… plus the added option of walking around the fully wire-fenced property line beyond, again both front and back. The neighborhood is sparsely homed… I counted 8 mailboxes at the entrance… and the homes are well spread out to offer excellent peace and privacy.
Inside the home was spacious and very well appointed. If your evenings are free there is a well-equipped entertainment center with 5.1 surround and a “smart” Blu-ray player… meaning it can serve whatever streaming accounts you have. The Internet provider seems to be Cox cable and the TV provider was Dish. The later may not offer many of the channels you are used to viewing but hey, that’s where streaming fills in.
The only negative you might encounter is poor cell reception. But, since we had excellent Internet connectivity we turned to Skype and were able to do everything we had wanted a phone for.
One tip. VRBO mentions an upper floor. There is no one living there. That is just extra bedrooms you may wish to rent for larger parties. If not, they are locked. This property is completely your own during your stay. The owner is a homebuilder of both this and other homes in the area. A very pleasant fellow who we only met twice during our one month stay, when he came to do some outdoor property maintenance.
This home was so wonderful. The quality was such you don't regularly find for rentals. The setting was truly perfect...we could have stayed longer. Everything about this home is first class with absolutely everything you might need for a quality stay. It's peaceful and beautiful and we would certainly love to stay here again if in the area. Easy drive to Sierra Vista and Ft Huachua.
What a perfect desert oasis! The house was beautifully equipped for our stay. We especially enjoyed sitting on the back deck with its views onto the oak woodlands. This is a very special property.
We have traveled various tourist areas of Arizona (Grand Canyon, Sedona, Tuscon) but wanted to explore southeast Arizona. This property was one of the few houses available for rental on VRBO and it is a real gem. Located about 15 minutes south of Sierra Vista in the town of Hereford.
We liked the design of the house which had a large open concept design on the first floor with a sunken kitchen and game room. The views from all the rooms look out on the mountains and the beautiful Emory Oak trees which provide luxurious shade all around the house. The property is on 5 acres in a small development but you have plenty of privacy. We spent our mornings out birding and hiking. Within 90 minutes or less you have access to dozen of bird hotspots, Tombstone, Bisbee, Patagonia Lake, and many more scenic places. We highly also recommend going to Chirichua National Monument (2 hrs) to see the hoodoo rock formations. You are literally next door to the Coronado National Memorial, where you can drive to Montezuma Pass and see Mexico in front of you and the Santa Rita Moutains to the north.
The shaded patio is a great place to relax in the afternoons and watch the 3 rabbits who live just over the wall. We were able to do lots of bird watching right from the patio, especially the hummingbirds that come to their feeder.
We also really enjoyed Bisbee which is only 25 minutes away. It's a quirky old mining town (take the Queen Cooper mining tour) with a brewery, a number or restaurants, and various art events. I will say that Sierra Vista is not a quaint old AZ town but essentially a new military town from the 50s that looks like any suburb of California, however it's convenient to have services only 15 minutes away. If you are a foodie, then you will struggle to find much to offer in SE Arizona. There are plenty of restaurants but nothing too original. The kitchen in the house gives you plenty of options to cook at home and eat out on the glorious patio.
Michael is a great host and is responsive to any questions you may have. The house is located close to US 92 but inside you don't hear any road noise. On the patio you will hear some traffic noise but the views are so nice it won't bother you. Cell reception is not good at this location because of the canyons. There is good Internet reception (15 Meg/sec) though just take this into consideration if you need to make calls (Skype works great).
The other thing we discovered about SE Arizona
One step into this home and you know it is loved. What a beautiful, comfortable home and setting. It is evident that the owners have cared for and loved their home and property. What an honor that they've opened their idyllic piece of southwest paradise to VRBO renters! The home is comfortable, beautifully furnished and decorated - it has everything you need to be comfortable (just like home). The property is unbelievable! What a view! There is room to roam, the landscaping is lovely, and the backyard is the perfect spot to recharge while on vacation. We have stayed at VRBO homes for nearly 20 years and we have a new favorite! Mike - your home and property was exactly what we needed to have the "perfect" vacation. Two thumbs up! Thank you! We give this a five star rating and encourage renters to please care for and love this home and property like your own because we want Mike to continue renting. We will be back year after year! It is a beautiful paradise!
