2 Bedroom/2.5 Bath Home, Wrap Around Sky Deck with Long Range Mountain View
About Barbara Leibell
Since 1984, I have lived in a 1947 deco house on the water in Miami Beach. I love my work as a Screenwriting Professor at the University of Miami in Coral Gables. Thus, Villa Nirvana has a definite movie theme as you will find when you stay there! Film is a passion, and so is house design. I really enjoyed renovating Villa Nirvana, transforming it into a setting that is akin to that in the TV series Madmen. I took out the shag carpet and put down hickory hand scraped floors, painted the dark walls translucent blue, and even bought furniture from the same antique store where the set designers for Madmen shopped. Villa Nirvana is about Mid-Century Modern art and furniture. Everything I acquired for the house is something I fell in love with, from the Atomic Salt and Pepper shakers to the Piazza Snow Couch. But mostly, the mountain view is something I want EVERYONE to see. It is like an incredible priceless painting. You never get tired of staring at the layers and layers of mountains, with smoky clouds like frosting in the morning. I was dumbstruck by the year round unobstructed view. And facing north, I loved that I could see the sunrise in the morning from the Master Bedroom, and gaze at the sunset in the evening from the Sun Room. Not to mention, eat chips and dip with friends in the covered porch when it is raining. To quote Simon and Garfunkel, the Sounds of Silence in the mountains is something that was miraculous to me, after living on Miami Beach where it is never quiet with the party-goers on South Beach, airplanes overhead, and jet skiers on the water. As a writer, Villa Nirvana nurtured my creativity. J.K. Rowling says that her books do not pop up like mushrooms, but at Villa Nirvana, my creative flow streams much faster and easier than in Miami. I hope to write a blockbuster there! Or, maybe I will just kick back on the Sky Deck and watch the sun go down....

Why Barbara Leibell chose Hendersonville
For most of my life, I have lived in the tropics in Singapore, Bangkok and Hawaii. (Yes, I surfed and did the hula.) My saying used to be: You can take the girl out of the island, but you cannot take the island out of the girl! That was until I visited one of my best friends in Hendersonville, NC and her mountain top home. I fell hard that trip, for the breathtaking view of the sunrise and sunset over the mountains, for the clouds rolling in over the valley below, for precious moments shared with my friends on their porch, sharing a glass of wine at sunset, and for the genuine beauty of the people of Western North Carolina. I could not get enough of shopping with my friend for the savory produce at the Farmers Markets. And the antiques, art, music, and food in Hendersonville and Asheville. I could not survive in a place without food; I mean GREAT FOOD. This place has it! So I found myself searching out a home where I could sit and gape at the mountains all day and drink in the beauty, noshing on a sweet mountain apple. I found it on my second day. I stepped onto the Sky Deck of Villa Nirvana and said: This is it. This is my home, and I want to share it with my friends, family, and people who love the mountains, who love tranquility and serenity, who love convening over food with friends in a spectacular setting like I do. As a screenwriter, I found the perfect place to write and create. If you are an artist or creative, this place is IT for inspiration! If you just want a great vacation away from it all, where silence is the predominant sound, then this place will seduce you into a state of nirvana. With one of my Vassar College sisters, I designed Villa Nirvana to be sleek and sophisticated, chic and fun. No granny quilts here! Rather, there is colorful Mid-Century art, vintage Danish designed furniture, even a record player to dance to on the orange mod rug! I am so excited about opening my heavenly home to guests!
What makes this House unique
What makes Villa Nirvana special? The Mountain View. The Sky. The Serenity and Silence. The coziness of its 1450 sq. ft. of sophisticated style. It was love at first sight when I stepped into Villa Nirvana, and I have never looked back.

Just what we needed!
Beautiful view, relaxing, comfortable and convenient to Hendersonville, Saluda, and Brevard.
We love it here so much we booked it twice!
We had a fantastic, restorative time at Villa Nirvana. The porch sitting and plush robes were just what we needed!
A true hidden gem!! The house is immaculate, views are extraordinarily beautiful!! We didn't want to leave. Barbara and Becca are great to work with! :) We are looking forward to our next visit!!
Fantastic Stay at Villa Nirvana
We thoroughly enjoyed our week-long stay at Villa Nirvana. Your home was not only lovingly decorated, but it was immaculately maintained, very well appointed, and the setting absolutely breathtaking. Much time was spent in the sun room and on the deck, and when the evenings got too cool the warmth of the fireplace was most welcome! It was also a delight to be serenaded by the whip-poor-wills song each night. Our only disappointment was that the week passed by so quickly, so we're already planning a return visit next spring. Thank you for sharing your lovely home ... it is truly a piece of heaven.

Excellent place and Location
Great cozy place to unwind.
Great family mountain get away :)
We loved the beautiful setting of this home! We enjoyed watching the gorgeous sunrise and sunset each day! The house had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. Each deck provided a nice view of the surrounding area and we enjoyed eating and playing games on the decks. The fireplace created a cozy atmosphere on a chilly evening. The location of the home allowed us to explore many different areas around Hendersonville. Barbara was very accommodating and quick to respond to any questions we had. We highly recommend this home for a cozy get away!
You are at the top of the world when you stay at Villa Nirvana! But close to so many fun things to do nearby. Are you a foodie like me? Some of my favorites: Down our road, buy fresh organic eggs, cruise the farmers markets in Flat Rock and Hendersonville for heirloom tomatoes, sweet corn, wild mushrooms, even award-winning artisan cheese. Then take the kids to Buck Creek Trout Farm to catch fresh trout for dinner. Hungry? In Hendersonville, there is an eclectic range of restaurants: West First for wood fired pizza and carrot cake, the Dugout for incredible onion rings and burgers, Umi for fresh sushi, even the best tacos at hole-in-the wall El Paso Azteca. Willing to drive further? Absolutely try Curate Spanish Tapas in Asheville. For drinks, do not miss The Grove Park Inn, built in 1913 with a breathtaking view of the mountains on the Sunset Terrace Restaurant. Brunch on the weekend at the Blue Ridge Restaurant, with home smoked fish, salads from local gardens, and the most delicious Southern food ever.
To top it off, French Broad Chocolates in Asheville are a must if you are a chocolate lover like me! Fresh raspberry truffles, cabernet and spice, cosmic love potion... ahhh... chocolate cures everything.
My favorite quirky tour: Foraging for wild mushrooms in the Dupont Forest with Greg Carter from Deep Wood Mushrooms. He cooked up our mushrooms, and we downed them with beer or wine. Walk or hike off your food in the emerald green Pisgah Forest, drive the Blue Ridge Parkway, and eat again at the Pisgah Inn with another wide open mountain view.
Love antiques? Check out Chad and Morgan at Local Antiques for Mid-Century Modern, and other cool things at the Antique Tobacco Barn -- a football field of stuff! -- just down Swanannoa Road in Asheville. Most of Villa Nirvana was furnished from these remarkable places.
Are you physical? If you need an adrenaline rush, paraglide off the mountain tops around Asheville, or zip line and white water raft in the French Broad River with French Broad Rafting. Just five miles from Villa Nirvana is Holmes Educational State Forest, with hikes that last 30 minutes or all day for miles. In the Nantahala (Land of the Mid Day Sun) Forest, break a sweat on the hiking trails and whitewater rafting. Then relax and savor the waterfalls in the summer. At 5,800 feet is the Lone Bald Summit, the highest point at Nantahala. Another favorite waterfall hike is in the nearby Dupont State Forest (Hooker, Triple and High Falls) open at 5 a.m. The Dupont is where the Hunger Games was filmed, so watch for Katniss running by!
Fox Mountain Guides and Climbing School offers rock climbing, ice climbing guiding, and rock climbing courses. An exhilarating way to see the Mountains!
Autumn in the mountains is eye candy! From Villa Nirvana, watch the mountains turn shades of orange and red and call yourself a Leafie. All year round, ride the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad and enjoy an era that is bygone, when people traveled the slow way, taking in the scenery. Or go slower, horseback riding with the Pisgah Forest Riding Stables, or at the Biltmore Estates for more a more refined, sophisticated ride. While you are at the Biltmore, do not miss touring Vanderbilts century-old French Renaissance castle with its priceless collection of art and antiques.
In Asheville on a Thursday-Saturday? Stop back at the Grove Park Inn and catch the Dueling Pianos at Elaines Piano Bar. Is it a comedy show... no a concert! Whatever, dance, laugh, drink, and have fun! Music abounds in the mountains with quirky notes at Ashevilles Orange Peel Social and Pleasure Club, or in Hendersonville for the Music on Main Street Concert Series. Groove to local musicians at the South Rock Bar and Grill on Greenville Highway and down some of that wildly tasty North Carolina artisan brewed beer!
Maybe you need something more highbrow. Tour the Thomas Wolfe House and the Carl Sandburg homes. There are still goats at the Sandburg home, ancestors of the original goats kept by the Sandburgs. Theater lovers will delight in the small-town plays put on at the Flat Rock Playhouse. For craft and art lovers, go to the Quilt Show in September and the art galleries in the River Arts District in Asheville.
On Main Street in Hendersonville -- a quaint street with no chain stores in sight! One of my favorite stores is the Mast General Store, still operating since 1883! For kids, take in the magical world of Dancing Bear Toys. I love the Village Green Antique Mall, with its eclectic collection of antiques.
Lastly, you are in apple country in Hendersonville! When it is apple season, eat your way through the orchards, tasting over 20 varieties of apples, sipping cider, or eating homemade apple pie. Great for kids!
You can always come home to Villa Nirvana for peace, quiet, serenity, yoga on the Sky Deck, dancing on the mod orange rug, or a tranquil nap in the bedrooms with a year-round view of the mountains and sky.
