Hi, we are Mary and Raniya.
We are sisters in law.
We live at the beach and rent our family vacation house.
We've lived here for years, know the area well and are happy to share our favorite places with you.
Mary and Raniya purchased this cottage in 1999
This property is right in the heart of Jacksonville Beach. You can leave your car in the parking lot and reach most everything by walking or biking. Restaurants, Shops, Festivals, Bars, Coffee Shops, etc. There is also a beach Trolley that runs up and down A1A and to the Neptune Beach Town Centre with more shops and restaurants.
With its vintage furnishings and updated kitchen and bathrooms, the Surf Shack was the perfect "staycation" choice for our family. We are local residents who decided on a beach getaway while having work done in our home, and the Surf Shack was ideally located to allow us to handle daily life while still having the feeling of a vacation. Mary was the perfect host-- very accommodating and understanding of our unique situation, she made arrangements that allowed us to "move in" with as little stress as possible. The unit was clean and well-stocked and the beds were comfortable. The deck is fantastic, and had there not been a tropical storm camping over us the entire week, we would have spent every evening out there. The only negative of the entire experience was the A/C unit in the main bedroom. It is situated right above the bed and is quite noisy, which made for difficult sleep, as it cycled on and off frequently throughout the night. If this can be addressed, the Surf Shack will remain at the top of our list for local getaways for ourselves and out of town guests .
Just a short walk to the beach, so close to food and shops, and Mary and Raniya were available and answered Any questions we had! We loved the outside patio, the beds were very comfortable, we had everything we needed all weekend long. My only complaint would be the chairs in the living room are very itchy and uncomfortable but we threw a big comfty blanket on top of them when we sat in them anyway and it was ok. Thanks again for an amazing trip Jacksonville beach was beautiful and I can see us coming back for sure!
We had a great time and really enjoyed the property.
It is such a great spot, right in the middle of everything in Jax Beach. The convenience to the beach was perfect. The outside rinsing shower and towel hooks were greatly appreciated and the deck was nice for hanging out. And for people watching on the fourth - the folks bicycling back and forth on 1st are kind of a show.
A few notes that I hope might be helpful to you:
a. the portable A/C unit in the living room doesnt seem to drain fully. After it alarmed about being full, I went online and got the instructions about how to drain off the condensation water. I followed them, but not much water came out. I drained the unit a couple other times, when it indicated full, but I bet it will show full within another day or so, it sounds like water is remaining trapped in the bottom of the unit.
b. one time while we were there, when a really hard thunderstorm came thru(and only then) there was a minor leak coming from the ceiling just inside of the door out onto the front deck. There's a slight stain there, and the floor may be showing the effects, too. I put a pan and towel under it until it stopped for that storm.
My family enjoyed our time at the surf shack! Great location to beach, shopping, jax fishing pier and adventure land. My favorite place was sitting on the deck! Thank you Mary and Raniya - we can't wait to come back.

My husband and I are not familiar with Jacksonville Beach but we found a gem in this house. The location was directly across the street from the beach and the park. We could sit out on the porch to eat our meals or relax after a nice day at the beach! The beds were very comfortable. We would love to plan another trip and stay in the house, but bring our bicycles next time!
