Why Michael & Julie Payne chose Ludgvan
Gastronomic delight! The far west of Cornwall is home to some of the finest restaurants in the UK and Penzance is reputed to be a Gastronomic haven for foodies to flock to and enjoy the finest fresh fish, shellfish and produce in the land. The Old Schoolhouse holds a heartfelt, sentimental significance to the owner. It was the owner's childhood dream to live in such a property with panoramic views and no neighbours peering into the garden watching what you're doing!! Having visited West Cornwall, specifically St Ives, twice a year every year as a child, after losing both her parents unexpectedly, Julie took the tragedy and turned it into a positive. Not wanting to be right in the heart of St Ives with all the push and shove in high season, The Old Schoolhouse is comfortably on the outskirts and on the bus route right outside the house to pop in & out without the hassle of traffic & parking. Perfect location with a spectacular beach just at the end of the road in either direction - what's not to love?! Hufflepuff Lodge, named so by her little girl Jennifer, enables visitors to come and enjoy the absolutely stunning big sky views all around and marvel at the landscape as it changes from countryside views to the left and costal views to the right. It combines the best of both worlds yet is on a 'proper' road not up a hair raising narrow lane, with very easy access to several big supermarkets, a huge M&S, Boots and NEXT within striking distance plus all the quirky independently owned boutiques, galleries and artisan food sellers of St Ives and Penzance. Dominoes & various other takeaways, deliver too - the kids are happy!!
What makes this Cottage unique
The views and highly convenient location are exceptional. Hufflepuff Lodge at the brow of the hill in Whitecross, just on the outskirts of St Ives and the views across open countryside, awash with yellow in the Spring with flowering daffodils, are breathtaking. Look to the right and you're looking at the Sea and the top of St Michael's mount, fantastic lit up at night. Behind the property are gorgeous country walks and a footpath route that takes you across to the back of St Ives. There is a high point a short walk behind us called Trencrom Hill, from where, on a clear day, you can actually see all 3 coastlines! The views are truly magnificent and the convenience of location second to none. The beach is literally just at the bottom of the road in either direction, turn left from Hufflepuff Lodge and within minutes you're in Hayle or St Ives, turn right and you're on Marazion beach (owner's favourite) where its great fun to take a disposable BBQ down in the evenings and have a BBQ watching the sunset with a glass of something nice in your hand...

Our 2nd visit to this fantastic property it is so comfortable and relaxing we had some lovely treats on our arrival had a great weekend with our children making the most of the beautiful location many thanks again
Great little property perfect for our stay
Myself, my husband and 3 children ages 8, 6 and 1 stayed for a week. We had a lovely stay. The property is the perfect size for us all and we loved the extra touches Michael and Julie gave with teddies and sweets for the children and lots of goodies for the adults too. Although just off the busy a30 it doesn’t really feel like it with the lovely field full of crops you see out of most of the windows. The sofa was mega comfy and perfect after a long day out and having sky for the kids was a winner. All in all a lovely place with a good location near the train into st ives that we used several times. Thanks for a lovely stay
It was Magic!
Lovely welcome. Very thoughtful welcome & leaving gifts. Had a lovely week with everything needed right at hand.
Perfect location near all west Cornwall attractions and the natural beauty of the beaches, also overlooking country fields.
We wish our week didn't go so fast! Thank You for our marvelous stay at 'Hufflepuff lodge'.... It was magic!
Great place to stay with easy access by bus to popular towns
Arrived at the location to a very warm welcome with goodies and starter gifts which included local produce bread ,milk tea coffee biscuits even scones and jam and gift for our son which we thought was a lovely touch.
The bus stop is located just outside and we got a weekly family bus ticket to get about,as parking in st ives is a nightmare.
Enjoyed the beaches where we done kayaking and paddle boarding. Local mackerel fishing and RIB ride great fun with a teenager.
The lodge was great to return to at the end of the busy day and we could relax on the large sofa and watch movies.
Recommend visits to St Michael's mount and Portleven. The Harbour inn at Portleven served an amazing seafood share.
There is slight noise from the A30 but at the end of the day the sea air knocks you out
Lovely little find, we would recommend Hufflepuff lodge
