About H.C. "Chris" Porter

I'm a native Mississippian and a professional artist. I started my studio in 1987 in Jackson and after 20 years moved to Vicksburg. I was drawn by the historic building and the river views! My artwork reflects my love of Mississippi and its rich cultural and blues heritage.

H.C. "Chris" Porter purchased this condo in 2006

Why H.C. "Chris" Porter chose Mississippi

My contemporary southern loft is above my signature art gallery in historic downtown Vicksburg on the main street, Washington St. Washington St. is also the Blues Highway, Highway 61,which runs from Memphis to New Orleans. I have found Vicksburg to be a welcoming, artsy, historic and charming town. I have found my home here, but I travel often and am able to share my loft/home while I am away.

What makes this condo unique

I've been told Mississippi is the last mysterious state in the Union! Vicksburg is a wonderful place to explore Mississippi's unique and historic past. My loft is 3 minutes from the National Military Civil War Park, one block above our riverfront murals, three blocks from the Court House Museum and two blocks from our Mississippi River Museum. The award winning, local shopping, dining and sightseeing is all surrounding my loft. Newly opened, the only rooftop dining/bar in Mississippi is located across the street, 10 South, with it's tenth story view of the River and downtown Vicksburg (just in case my three story private roof terrace isn't enough!) I have created an artist's dream home and it is my pleasure to share it with you!

Perfect weekend in Vicksburg!

  • 5 of 5

Chris's loft is so convenient to all that we love in Vicksburg. It was wonderful to have her well-appointed kitchen --we found everything needed! The art, books and furnishings make for a warm, inviting space to relax and entertain. We appreciated the on-street parking steps from the door which made bringing in luggage and groceries a breeze. Downtown is so walkable, we found ourselves stepping out for coffee, off to visit our kiddos in their home, touring Catfish Row and poking through Lorelei Books and other shops giving us time to slow down and stretch our legs. With Hwy. 61 entering town just a few blocks upriver, we took a road trip into the Delta with its open country, red buds and fields and small towns. We are appreciative to Chris for generously sharing her loft the way one friend would open their home to another.

A large, open space with interesting art decorations

  • 3 of 5

This loft in an older building is not for someone with bad knees--lots of steps. It also needs a working TV and some updated furniture. Its in a nice downtown area.

Owner's Response: We were pleased to have you and your wife as guests! I am so sorry you found the stairs daunting and the decor not to your taste. It is a second floor (clear in the information) artist's loft filled with art, antiques and collectible artisan made furniture pieces. It is an 1875, 3 story building...with a fantastic walk out terrace in the center of the downtown historic district, great restaurants, museum and shopping all within a few blocks! The TV is routed through the surround system, we try to make that clear when you check in, I apologize if we did not. Thank you again for staying and I hope our staff was helpful and attentive! Safe travels!

Everything was super nice. The staff, the art, the loft. Very nice getaway for a weekend, or a place to have a week long vacation.
