Joanna had 2 children from a 1st marriage, 2 grand kids and 1 cat. Stan built his first website in 1997. He currently owns 2 website development companies. For fun, Stan has been singing and playing guitar (rock & roll) since he was nine. After a 20 year career as a Dental Hygienist, Joanna went back to school and received her Masters in Counseling Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute in 1996. Joanna has worked as a Therapist & Hypnotherapist leading groups, doing individual and couples’ counseling. For joy, she has always done some form of art from jewelry making to stained glass and home design.
Owner purchased this House in 2004
Why Owner chose Colonia San Antonio
In 2004 we came to San Miguel to visit a friend. We had been looking to buy a 2nd home in Victoria, B.C., but ended up visiting San Miguel with friends. New friends staying at the same B & B in San Miguel, said they saw a home that was perfect for us. Even though we weren’t looking, we went to see for ourselves. The floor plan fit our in-door-outdoor lifestyle and we saw the possibilities: the quiet, flat streets appealed as did living in a mixed neighborhood of local families and expats. Our artistic friends agreed to help us create a warm, comfortable ambiance that still makes us smile and feel good. We love sharing this special home with those who visit for it seems to have the same effect on them.
What makes this House unique
Since we are on a double corner lot, the rooms are more spacious and all open onto or face the upper and lower patio gardens. The stairway is also wider and much easier to navigate than many of the other homes in San Miguel. San Miguel is a walking town and we can walk everywhere! Taxi's are available for 40 pesos/daytime or 50 pesos at night. The expats that we meet are friendly and interesting. The locals are warm and welcoming. We can enjoy the buzz of Centro and walk or taxi home to our peaceful, quiet refuge in Casa del Alma. With the reliable high-speed Internet, Vonage, and cell phones, Stan can still run his business while enjoying life in Mexico……. the “Best of All Worlds”

Lovely and Relaxing!
Casa del Alma is a beautiful house in a neighborhood that is easily walkable to the Centro area and to many other sights in San Miguel de Allende. The house is colorful and impeccably clean with everything needed for a relaxing stay. The housekeeper is delightful and provides many extra touches to ensure that you enjoy your stay. We can’t wait to return!
A showcase of a perfect stay
This is such a special home, or rather estate. Like staying in an art gallery filled with beautiful belongings. We couldn't have been more pleased or better cared for. The owner was helpful and responsive in pre-trip planning, the home feels quite safe and private, the on-site caregiver is so pleasant and helpful. The beds comfortable, the furnishings fine quality, and the colors and grounds a feast. It was a trip of a lifetime and made our first trip to San Miguel de Allende everything we hoped for. Highly recommend if you want to feel what it would be like to live in an artist colony.
An Immersion into the Heart of Mexico!
Stepping through the door of Casa del Alma is to step into the heart and soul of Mexico! The colors will wrap you in the warmth and liveliness of this beautiful city and country! The lush courtyard with its fountain and multitude of hummingbirds is a peaceful relaxing oasis. We made the most refreshing limeade from the courtyards lime tree! The rooftop terrace with an abundance of colorful flowers, orange, lemon and kumquat trees is a pure delight! Hot air balloons drift over the house almost daily. The hot water, showers and large bath tub are fabulous.
Only suggestion is a more comfy sofa in the upstairs sitting room. It does not have much support to sit on comfortably. My husband spent much time here because of mobility issues and not being able to get out a lot he could not relax well. This sleeper sofa was impossible for our daughter to sleep on. We had the most wonderful housekeeper, Araceli, make a bed on the floor in the living room with a thick mattress that was available, meant to be used on the sofa sleeper. Do not miss Eluney restaurant just around the corner from Casa Del Alma where Del Refugio merges with Refugio Norte. A teeny gem of a place with a killer view on its rooftop terrace. Tortillas made from seeds, incredible!
Casa del Alma will enchant you!
Thank you for the nice review. Yes you are right, the upstairs sofa/bed is not the plush comfort it could or should be.We have had the cushions remade but I will work on it again. Thank you for the feedback
House is great , very clean, beautifully decorated ,well equipped and Housekeeper Arciel is very helpful .great stay
Excellent home in an ideal location
Casa del Alma is a gem. Beautifully decorated, very comfortable, well-equipped and in an ideal location, it represents the perfect respite after a day of sightseeing, shopping and enjoying the delights of Sam Miguel. The up and down bedroom suites are roomy and comfortable. The kitchen is exceptionally well equipped and the topside terrace is perfect for evening cocktails and watching early morning hot air balloons pass overhead. A 10 minute walk will take you to virtually all areas of interest in the town. The housekeeper, Araceli, is a delight and is always anxious to answer questions, and resolve any issues (we did not have any). A stay at Casa del Alma is an unqualified recommendation.
Thank you for your kind words
The most magical and relaxing place... just go!
My highest accolades go to Casa del Alma. This magical paradise went far beyond my expectations. If I were trying to think of every detail a guest would want during a stay, I couldn't have done a better job. Seems like everywhere I've stayed has left something to be desired... more light at the bedside, power outlets, places to just relax and enjoy. The house is immaculate, thanks to Areceli's hard work. She's a gem and always so cheerful. The fountain and the birds were amazing... so calming and tranquil. The decor of the house inspired me to get more color into my life. An amazing use of intense colors that blended so well from room to room. It was stunning right down to every last detail. There's a tree in the courtyard in the middle of the house where the morning doves and hummingbirds love to spend lots of time. I heard bird sounds that I've never heard before. Most intriguing.
We hadn't gotten away for a couple years and my mom died last year. We needed R&R desperately and I learned how to just BE. Reading, sleeping, reading, watching the birds, sleeping. It was exactly what we needed. We also checked out some of the amazing restaurants and shops in the vicinity. Nothing is very far away and if you're feeling lazy and don't want to walk, you can just hop into a taxi.
We were greeted by Areceli, who gave us the tour and had prepared a wonderful meal for us, even though we got in late. She was a joy. Very knowledgable about the property and spoke good English. Stan was very helpful with all his suggestions before we even left home, and there was a house manual that had all kinds of information in it to answer any question we could think of. The amount of care that went into this is amazing.
I have nothing but the best memories of this place. Everything was so beautiful and inviting. The perfect retreat for us, as it turned out. I feel rested and recharged, ready to go again, though I think I will be taking more naps now!
Thank you for appreciating our work of art! This is the pay off for all of that hard work over the past 14 years.
