About James Garrett

I enjoy travelling with my wife. I am a keen sports fan (football, cricket & rugby). I am a bit of a music buff, though my wife grumbles that our tastes are fairly divergent! We enjoy cinema, dining out, long walks in the country and spending time with friends.

We welcome people who will respect our property.

Lovely place to stay

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 4 only stayed for one night en route to our final destination, however, James made us feel very welcome. He was easy to contact and responded promptly to our messages. The barn was very comfortable with luxurious feel to the master bedroom, in particular. There were board games, DVDs and books available. The immediate surroundings are very peaceful and there is some lovely local wildlife. There was milk, coffee, tea, butter, bread and lovely jam - perfect for our morning breakfast before heading off. The only suggestion for improvement would be more of a welcome pack - places we have stayed previously have included various treats from wine, artisan bread and chocolates, as well as milk/tea/coffee, which was always a nice touch if we were staying for several days.

We would definitely recommend!

Owner's Response: Thanks, Neshe, for a lovely review. I'm so pleased you enjoyed your stay - albeit it was just for one night - and hope you're having a great holiday in Cornwall. At this time of year we have lots of guests staying for one night, breaking their journeys to or from their holiday destination (which is fine; they're as welcome as those staying for several nights!). It does make it quite a job, however, to know how to pitch our offer, given a multiplicity of dietary, regional and cultural tastes. Some guests would love to find chocolates, while others might not. Sourdough bread might not appeal to those who prefer sliced white or wholemeal. We often find ourselves providing food for guests who've brought their own and, therefore, left it. Our experience over three years has led us to provide a range of basic, wholesome foodstuffs which, while they might not be the most exciting, ensure guests need not go hungry. But you've prompted us to have a rethink about what we offer. Thank you!

Very homely stay in a beautiful country retreat

  • 5 of 5

James and Susan were very accommodating hosts. James was there to greet us when we arrived and there were lots of extra little touches in the house to make our stay more comfortable, such as body wash in the showers, tin foil, washing up things and bread and jam.

The apartment were clean and tidy and looked the same as in the pictures. The location is very scenic and remote, James had left information on local pubs and shops. I would recommend this as a very relaxing and enjoying place to stay

Converted Cow Shed, Bagstone.

  • 5 of 5

Had a great 4 days staying in the cowshed. Maisie, our Cavalier was made to feel very welcome by Coco and Lulu, as were my husband and I by James and his wife Susan. All four of them were lovely. Very spacious "cow shed", especially the master bedroom with the en suite. Nicely stocked with milk, bread, apricot jam, tea and coffee on arrival. As Chris is a coffee addict the bean to coffee machine was a real plus. Bed was comfy and the 10.5 tog duvet kept us nice and warm at night. A great base from which to tour the South West. We particularly enjoyed National Trust walk number 11 startiing opposite the Old Dog pub in Old Sodbury; The Arboretum at Westonbirt; and, Weston Super Mare beach.

Please note the main picture is NOT of the Cow Shed, it is the owners home.
