A truly special place

  • 5 of 5

With the Cathedral lit up and decorated for Christmas, it was a magical location. The apartment is well equipped and furnished down to the paper products. And the welcome basket was perfect. The Christmas Market is one of the best I've attended - an added bonus when you visit in December. Everything is within easy walking distance including the train station. And do take the steeple tour for lots of interesting information about the history, construction and maintenance of the Cathedral plus fabulous views.

Stunning location, beautiful apartment and very exclusive location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this apartment for three days. We were so happy we chose this place. It's the most amazing location, just like in the pictures. Salisbury Cathedral is on your front lawn, Salisbury Museum yards away, and Salisbury High Street round the corner. Even though it is right in the heart of the city, it was quiet and peaceful as the address is in "The Close" which is enclosed in its own little circle with a gate, that is open all day but shuts at night after 11:00 ( we got given a key). So it is very exclusive! ( Stonehenge was about 20 minutes drive, Monkey World around 50 minutes)

Genevieve met us and explained everything we needed to know about the property, and kindly left us a basket with eggs/milk/bread/ butter and some fruit.

The apartment feels fairly newly refurbished and clean. The yellow chairs are just a delight to have a cup of tea or a glass of wine in the evening when the Cathedral is lit and you can just stare at it for hours!!!!

The master bedroom is spacious and the other bedrooms are in the attic space. Although this was advertised as a two bedroom, it would actually be possible to easily fit a family with three children as the attic space is divided into two areas by a door. One side has a double bed and the other side has a small day bed, but more than adequate for my 9 year old.

The tea rooms downstairs is very handy and you get a discount at the Cathedral cafe and shop too.

The only thing to remember is that the Cathedral Bells chime every quarter hour, half an hour and on the hour all day and night. It sounds like a lot but you soon get used to it although it woke me up once or twice, I'm a super light sleeper.

We definitely hope to be back.

Glorious in Every Way

  • 5 of 5

The process for reservation was a little nerve wracking because we had to be approved. When we arrived at the apartment, though, we understood why. Each person we were assisted by, especially Genevieve, was helpful, professional, and kind—right down to the wait staff downstairs at the tea room. Each room in the apartment was clean, bright, airy, and charmingly decorated. The kitchen (complete with clothes washer, dishwasher, and a storage closet that had more handy gadgets in it) had been stocked with everything we needed to cook at home when we desired. A goody basket was provided to tide us over on the first night, along with a coupon for a cream tea at either the tea room downstairs or the restaurant at the cathedral. The food at both places was well worth the visit. The bathroom had a soaking tub along with a lovely shower with plenty of hot water. The beds were warm, comfortable, and cozy. And the window views—oh, the views!!! We watched rain, crows, pigeons, dogs with their people, students on the lawn, and worshipers walking to service—all within the shadow of the Salisbury Cathedral that is just across the lawn. We attended Evensong each evening and found the worship to be meaningful and the music ethereal. We also went on the tower tour and were treated to many stories of the history (and funny incidents) of the building and maintenance as we climbed and rested and climbed some more. There was so much to do within the Cathedral Close that we hardly ventured into Salisbury proper. Visiting the Magna Carta was one of the highlights of my trip, as was visiting the Terry Pratchett exhibit at the museum just down the street. Salisbury’s Belle View Apartment has become my favorite place to stay in England.

lovely, peaceful, wonderful amentities

  • 5 of 5

Genevieve greeted us at the door to give us a tour and point out details. The complimentary cream tea was much welcomed after a long day of travel. We enjoyed the comfortable beds, feather pillows, terry cloth robes, fresh eggs, etc. The location is great as you can access all of the town center within minutes. Of course, the cathedral is a great attraction. Highly recommend this rental.

Salisbury is ideally situated for trips to the coast, the New Forest National Park, Stonehenge with good rail links to London and the west country. We have the famous Salisbury International Arts Festival running every May and June. A well reputed Playhouse and City Hall, which host many shows. Local countryside fairs run throughout spring to autumn. However, right on your doorstep you have the largest and most lovely Cathedral Close in Britain extending to about 80 acres. Home to beautiful Grade I and II listed houses, two museums, a National Trust property, three tearooms and two restaurants. The magnificent Cathedral just yards away, you can stroll across the lawns to attend nightly Evensong at which our world class choir sing, enjoy the art frequently on display in the Cathedral or spend time in the beautiful Chapter House where the 1215 Magna Carta is displayed, one of only four copies remaining in the world. For more energetic visitors a behind the scenes Tower Tour takes you to the base of the Cathedral's soaring spire, the tallest in the UK. Via the 332 steps taken in easy stages you enter the Cathedral roof spaces where the ancient wood structures and hollow spire with its scaffolding can be observed. The views from the top of the Tower are unparalleled, looking way beyond the city to the surrounding countryside.

Old Sarum the Cathedral's original pre 13th Century home, is just minutes away by car and Stonehenge a 20 minute drive.
