|Minimum Stay||2 - 4 nights|
Your new favorite vacation rental is just across the street from the sand on the delightfully isolated Cape Meares spit. The home has expansive views from every window. The ocean, Cape Meares Lake and the coastal range hover about in sun and clouds, changing as the day meanders along.
Venture out the front door for a beach walk or launch the tandem kayak from the backyard. You may see Elk, Bald Eagles, Great Blue Herons, Osprey and more. The area is rich in history, flora and fauna. When you tire of the great outdoors, put a log on the fire, nestle up and enjoy the “modern rustic” ambiance inside. Read about the nearby town that fell into the sea, (the book’s at the house) and enjoy the distraction of the landscape. Storm watching is great as the clouds roll off the ocean, under the house, and resurface on the lake.
The house features a Great Room (kitchen & living), large deck with grill, wood stove (with free firewood), laundry washer & dryer, 2 bedrooms with 1 queen size bed in each, and 1 bath. The expansive sofa easily converts into 2 twin-sized beds and comfortably sleeps 2. House sleeps 6 total. Free WIFI Internet. No landline phone or television.
The kitchen is fully stocked with a microwave, dishwasher, coffee maker, blender and all basic amenities. We have extra bedding, games for the kids, and all you need for a comfortable getaway. We recommend you arrive with food in hand, as the nearest grocery is a 15-minute drive to the Tillamook Safeway.
We're happy to accommodate early check-in and late check-out when available.
Dogs are allowed with a non-refundable $35 deposit. We even have dishes for Fido. Please note: There is a 2 dog max and we request the pups mind their manners and wipe their paws.

I live and work in PDX and help run the family business. I have been a lifelong outdoor exploring Oregonian who loves yoga, design, and gardening. I strive to start Happy Hour at a reasonable time and bathe my children at least once a week.
Genna Golden purchased this house in 2014
We wanted a vacation spot where our 2 kids could roam about and experience nature for hours on end. We feel so fortunate to have found this place, perched out on the spit. It fulfills every time and we love that it’s only 1 hour 45 minutes from our Portland home.
We had such a great time at Last Resort! While the weather was a bit on the rainy side (you have to expect that on the Oregon coast in the fall), this quaint beach house property was super cozy, clean and met all our relaxation needs. We spent the weekend cooking great seafood from a couple local markets and putting logs in the wood stove. When it wasn't rainy we hit the beach and checked out the Cape Meares lighthouse and Cape Lookout State Park. On the way out of town, the sun finally came out and we did the Bayocean Spit Loop Hike, which was a great way to end our trip. Looking forward to coming back to beautiful Cape Meares again!
We had some last minute changes in arrangements and Genna was super friendly and accommodating. I would recommend this property to friends and plan on coming back for another stay.
The house is the perfect getaway. Tastefully decorated, clean and comfortable. The wood stove provided cozy warmth for rainy days, and large windows with many views helped erase the stresses of the city. We will definitely be back.
Arrived at Last Resort in the early evening and was treated to a wonderful sunset over the ocean with the outgoing tide. Found the cottage to be warm and comfortable with everything needed for a weeks stay. Some herbs and spices, coffee filters, laundry detergent, books, games, kayak you name it, it was there. It got fairly cool and the heat worked great. Beds were comfortable and bathroom roomy. Lots of towels and a washer/dryer were handy. Spent our days hiking, beach combing and exploring nearby coastal towns. Beaches are endless! Every morning the sunrise over the misty lake was enchanting. One day a herd of elk hung out in the front yard and in the evening dozens of snowy egrets made themselves at home in the lake shallows. Collected sand dollars and agates on the beach. There are towns nearby which offer great places to eat but we loved hanging out at Last Resort, cooking, drinking and enjoying the view. If you are interested in a quiet retreat amidst the amazing beauty of Cape Meares this is it! We fell in love with the beachy retro décor! Next time we plan on trying our hand at fishing in the surf and on the lake. Thanks Genna !
PS The water level was down on our end of the lake but there was access at the boat launch.
Me, my husband and two pet birds stayed here for a few nights in July and we were very impressed with the property. The house was incredibly clean, there were a ton of spare towels/linens and the views were just gorgeous. You're right on the beach as well as a bay with a ton of bird life. If you really enjoy peace and quiet this place is perfect! The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need to make meals if that's your thing but we didn't find issues with driving to all the different coastal towns to dine out either. It's not a short jaunt though so if you're not into driving it's best to cook and there's a Safeway right in Tillamook with everything you could want. There are other houses nearby but evenings were very quiet. Only thing you may want to be aware of is that this is a true get away from it property, so no wifi or tv. It was amazing to disconnect for a few days for us, but if you're not into letting go of your internet for a couple days you might not want to be so far out.
We had a great stay at the Last Resort in Cape Meares. This was our first visit to the area and we found a lot to explore. Unfortunately the water level on the lake was too low to take the kayak out, which was pretty disappointing. But we enjoyed the view and wildlife around the lake (we saw Elk and lots of birds) and spent a lot of time exploring the beach. The house had everything we needed and was very comfortable and clean. We especially enjoyed sitting out on the spacious deck and enjoying the double water view. We hope to come back - maybe when the lake level is higher.
Our family had a wonderful time here! It's close to the beach, we had tons of fun hunting for shells and playing in the waves. Theres pleanty of attractions around to visit and wonderful views to photograph. Genna is very accomodating and it was a pleasure to stay in her beautiful home.
ABOUT CAPE MEARES
The spit is rich in history. It was once home to Bayocean Park, a luxury turn of the century resort experience, which required it’s own yacht to reach. Alas, development of only one jetty changed the erosion pattern and the once grand resort slowly fell into the sea. The town is long gone, but what first enamored the developers still surrounds you. You can bike, hike and fish in the area and enjoy wonderful views of Tillamook Bay and it’s marine culture.
There is an interest in rezoning the spit from Recreation Management to Recreation Natural, which would preserve the land as a natural area and eliminate the option to develop. For those who have spent time here, you can see why preservation is in order. A herd of elk roams the land; it is home to Bald Eagles, Great Blue Herons, Osprey, and much more. It is a bird watcher’s paradise, and fishermen may line the lake, depending on what was recently stocked. Boats come and go from the bay, and the night sky is dark enough to study your constellations.
