Overview

About the property

Your new favorite vacation rental is just across the street from the sand on the delightfully isolated Cape Meares spit. The home has expansive views from every window. The ocean, Cape Meares Lake and the coastal range hover about in sun and clouds, changing as the day meanders along.

Venture out the front door for a beach walk or launch the tandem kayak from the backyard. You may see Elk, Bald Eagles, Great Blue Herons, Osprey and more. The area is rich in history, flora and fauna. When you tire of the great outdoors, put a log on the fire, nestle up and enjoy the “modern rustic” ambiance inside. Read about the nearby town that fell into the sea, (the book’s at the house) and enjoy the distraction of the landscape. Storm watching is great as the clouds roll off the ocean, under the house, and resurface on the lake.

The house features a Great Room (kitchen & living), large deck with grill, wood stove (with free firewood), laundry washer & dryer, 2 bedrooms with 1 queen size bed in each, and 1 bath. The expansive sofa easily converts into 2 twin-sized beds and comfortably sleeps 2. House sleeps 6 total. Free WIFI Internet. No landline phone or television.

The kitchen is fully stocked with a microwave, dishwasher, coffee maker, blender and all basic amenities. We have extra bedding, games for the kids, and all you need for a comfortable getaway. We recommend you arrive with food in hand, as the nearest grocery is a 15-minute drive to the Tillamook Safeway.

We're happy to accommodate early check-in and late check-out when available.

Dogs are allowed with a non-refundable $35 deposit. We even have dishes for Fido. Please note: There is a 2 dog max and we request the pups mind their manners and wipe their paws.

Book now to ensure your crew’s escape to one of Oregon’s hidden treasures.

About Genna Golden

I live and work in PDX and help run the family business. I have been a lifelong outdoor exploring Oregonian who loves yoga, design, and gardening. I strive to start Happy Hour at a reasonable time and bathe my children at least once a week.

Genna Golden purchased this house in 2014

Why Genna Golden chose Coastal Oregon

We wanted a vacation spot where our 2 kids could roam about and experience nature for hours on end. We feel so fortunate to have found this place, perched out on the spit. It fulfills every time and we love that it’s only 1 hour 45 minutes from our Portland home.

Comfortable, well appointed vacation home exactly as advertised.

  • 5 of 5

The location between the roaring of the Pacific Ocean surf and the singing frogs of Cape Mears Lake is perfect.

GREAT Get-away

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful slice of heaven. Steps from walking the beach and the view from EVERY PLACE in the home was amazing. Very well stocked! and the binder of information was very much appreciated. Genna was SO RESPONSIVE!!!! Loved having the fireplace and nicely split and dry wood to use. Being of the older generation (we are in our 60's), the lockbox that held the keys was a bit difficult to navigate. We had to really push the one button, lever thing down and also pull on the box. Just need to be patient with it and it will work. Stairs are a bit steep to climb, but there are not many of them, so if you have mobility issues just be aware. I just took my time and it was fine.

To have the view of the ocean on one side and the lake on the other was PURE HEAVEN! Can't to come back. Thank you, Genna for sharing your place with us. We loved it!!!!

Beautiful spot, lovely house

  • 5 of 5

This sweet little house couldn't be in a better spot. It's surrounded by water and in a quiet little neighborhood. It's thoughtfully stocked with everything needed for a comfortable vacation, and I was in love with the decor. It's little and cozy- the right size for our young family of 4.

A Beach Gem

  • 5 of 5

The Last Resort will never be our last resort of choice having been there: it is a great location and the views are as beautiful as the photos. It has everything that we needed for a comfortable stay and extra, thoughtful items not usually found in a rental. The beach access as other posters have noted was difficult due to rocks and construction on a public utility line but the beach itself is wide, sandy and long. A wonderful place to decompress.

Very nice, clean and quaint

  • 4 of 5

Great place that was clean, everything worked, and was as described. Very nice views. Super cozy even though it was very cold and very windy (there in January). Perfect for a couple or small family. Also, I greatly appreciated tsunami preparedness at the rental! Truly one of the best spots in Cape Meares.

ABOUT CAPE MEARES

The spit is rich in history. It was once home to Bayocean Park, a luxury turn of the century resort experience, which required it’s own yacht to reach. Alas, development of only one jetty changed the erosion pattern and the once grand resort slowly fell into the sea. The town is long gone, but what first enamored the developers still surrounds you. You can bike, hike and fish in the area and enjoy wonderful views of Tillamook Bay and it’s marine culture.

There is an interest in rezoning the spit from Recreation Management to Recreation Natural, which would preserve the land as a natural area and eliminate the option to develop. For those who have spent time here, you can see why preservation is in order. A herd of elk roams the land; it is home to Bald Eagles, Great Blue Herons, Osprey, and much more. It is a bird watcher’s paradise, and fishermen may line the lake, depending on what was recently stocked. Boats come and go from the bay, and the night sky is dark enough to study your constellations.
