My wife and I have lived in Ft Myers, FL going on 15 years. I am a local Realtor, and she is an accountant. We enjoy the sunny warm weather and beautiful beaches the area has to offer. With easy access from Ft Myers, North Captiva is the perfect place for us to get away from the hustle & bustle of every day life and soak up the peace and natural beauty of North Captiva
Chad Robey purchased this house in 2014
North Captiva is one of the most special places I've ever visited. It is for people who want ultimate relaxation and be forced to do almost nothing but enjoy the outdoors. You will find many $1,000,000+ homes on the island with state of the art facilities, reverse osmosis water filtration, and more than your luxuries of home. Blues Heaven is not one of them. It is a beach house, and a quite good and functional one. It is two stories with full kitchens, living rooms and bathrooms on both levels, so very good for two couples or small families who want their own space. There is one bedroom on the first floor and a pull out sofa. There are two bedrooms on the second floor, but they are connected, so a couple with a child would be comfortable, but two couples would be awkward. There is also a pull out sofa in the living room of the second floor. There is a dishwasher in the first floor kitchen. Washer and dryer are on the outside. The pool is lovely! We are used to renting houses, so we know that they come with about a 1 day supply of the essentials like toilet paper, paper towels, dish soap, etc. We always bring things like hand soap because houses never seem to have it. Normally when you rent a house you can check in, see what there is and then make a trip to the store, but not so on N. Captiva, so plan ahead! Bring food! There are a couple of restaurants, good for a break from cooking, but you don't want that to be your main source of food, it gets really expensive! Tap water is well water, it is drinkable, but not tasty, so we brought ours. There is one little store that will charge you 10x as much as normal, so if you forgot something, you can find it, but I wouldn't rely on that for your main purchases. The house has good wi-fi, but other than that, communication to and from the island is difficult. We had no cell service (just the way we wanted it!) but text messages went through eventually. Communication with Chad was at times difficult; I'm going to chalk that up to the communication problems on the island. Sometimes it took a few emails to get a response. But everything went smoothly once we got there. We were met at Barnacle's by Pam with the golf cart that comes with the rental and she showed us to the house and gave us the ins and outs and then on check out day, she met us back at the docks to bring the golf cart back. Yes the house needs repairs, but it did not detract from our overall experience. And our dog, Maggie, had a blast!
I stayed with my sister's family last spring (we had both levels rented) and my kids are still talking about their adventures on North Captiva Island! This was such an affordable home with a reasonable minimum stay-we had an excellent time. Location is perfect and the house had everything we needed. Screens on the porch had gaps and needed fixing as we had small children that could have fallen right out; but that was the only maintenance issue. Bring more than you think you need for drinking-water and ice are a hot commodity on the island; as you cannot drink water out of the tap. We ate dinner outside at Mangoes-took a LONG time to get our food but it was the best grouper salad I have ever had. We also rented kayaks from the other small bar on the island and enjoyed ice cream from the little shop above the bar. It was an all-around awesome experience being "cut off" from life as usual with limited access to the internet and no cars etc. Try exploring a bit at night. We had a lot of fun taking flashlights down to the beach near the landing strip and seeing crabs and wildlife in the moonlight. My husband and brother-in-law did some fishing (ran bait out deep with the kayaks) and caught some small sharks and other cool fish-truly an adventure for all!
Our week long stay was good, we stayed in the upper level (me, my wife and our daughter). My parents stayed in the lower level. It was perfect having our own living space and worked very well for our purposes. The overall condition of the property left a bit to be desired though. The beds need replacing- not very comfortable and very squeaky- we couldn't roll over without waking each other up and it felt like there was a spring poking me in the back. The screens were broken or missing on the porch which was bad for mosquitoes, but good for watching the lizards catch bugs ;-) The kitchens have the bare minimum, so be aware if you plan on cooking.
Chad the owner was great to deal with and very responsive to questions. The location is great in its own way- tucked back away from the beach, but still close enough for an easy stroll.
Well maintain property, very good location in the island. We enjoyed very much our stay, the island is a paradise. I absolutely recommend to spend some days there, you will come back home with your batteries fully charged. The owner very kind and helpful.
Excellent stay. Had a small problem with the golf cart. Owner jumped on it and fixed right away. Great location. Great time!
North Captiva Island is the perfect getaway if you desire a vacation that totally relaxing. From the moment you step on the water taxi and feel the warm breeze on your face to the moment you feel the sand in your toes as walk along the beach to go sea shelling, you know your on a relaxing vacation.
The home was perfect for what we were looking for--clean and quiet. And charming! The home was equipped with the necessary amenities--towels, kitchen appliances, tv, dvd player, wifi, beach towels, golf card, beach umbrellas, etc.
The owner, Chad, was also very accommodating by leaving the golf cart at the dock for us, and answering all of our questions on a timely basis!
The transportation services used to get to the island, the Pine Island taxi and the Club water taxi, were very friendly and easy to work with!
If you are planning a trip to North Captiva Island you will need to order your groceries ahead of time through Publix, as there is not a grocery/convenience store on the island.
The only (minor) suggestion for the owner would be a where to/how to guide. Where on the island to find ice, where to find the wifi password, where to rent a paddle boat, names of restaurants, etc.
We will definitely be back!
