The Sleephere Brussels Guesthouse, also signposted as "La Capitainerie", was founded in an elegant private building built in 1694. The house is in the lower, and also the oldest, part of the city, exactly where the medieval harbour used to be since the 12th century.

We are located just a few minutes walk from all the main places of interest and 10-15 minutes by metro from the biggest conference and exhibition centres. The Sainte-Catherine Metro stop is at 200 m from the house.

Delightful place

Convenient to Taxis and Tours conf area we stayed 10 men from around the world in this higher end “hostel”. But it is more than that; yes shared bedrooms and such but nice kitchen, dining area and living room perfect for relaxing and excellent gardens etc.

Owner's Response: Thanks Jeffrey for this feedback. One correction though: we are not exactly what you call a "Hostel"..... !? We are a "home for travelers", adapting our constellation to the needs of the guests. You occupied our large family suites as private rent of the house, not shared rooms. If you rent the house, nobody else is staying at the same time and if you rent part of the rooms we have other guests staying in the remaining suites. But a "hostel"? good heavens no, with only 15/16 people staying at max.

From Brussels Central Station, take either metro line 1 or 5 to Sainte-Catherine / Sint-Katelije Station. Exit the metro and walk towards the obelisk in the fountain away from the church. Before the obelisk, keep going right. You will be in the middle of grass and trees. The Quai à la Chaux starts at the second row of houses. From the Bruxelles Nord or Midi (Zuid) stations, take either metro line 3 or 4 and get off at De Brouckère Station. From there, follow the above. If you arrive at the International Airport, take the fast airport shuttle train from the airport to Gare Centrale. From there, follow the above. If you fly into Brussels South Charleroi Airport (Ryanair flights), take the shuttle bus to Midi Station. From there, follow the directions above. By car, coming from Paris, Luxemburg, Basque Country, or Germany, take the West Brussels Ring Road (Ring Ouest) and turn off at the 'Centre de Bruxelles' exit. On the 'Petite Ceinture' (the inner ring road), take the 'Yser Yser 'exit . Our complete address is: 8 Quai à la Chaux, 1000 Brussels, Belgium Reception opens 9.30 AM to 1 PM and 6.30 to 10.00 PM. Outside these hours, we are available whenever possible upon request Eating out: For a quick, cheap and nice day lunch, we can suggest “Le Snack à Pat”. Take a left when you come out of the house and just walk 100/150 m. (Closed evening and weekends). Another option for lunch is “Café Congo”, in the new part of the Flemish Theatre, “Quai aux Pierres de Taille”, just behind the house. Opposite the eatery (on the other side of the Obelisk in the Fountain), is “Manneken Pils”, a common but good little restaurant for daily meals. Prices are very reasonable. The main “Sainte-Catherine” Square (between the church and the Obelisk with the fountain) offers you a series of fine restaurants. Try the “Bij Den Boer” and “Jacques” restaurants. You might pay a couple of extra Euros, but it will still be reasonable and absolutely delicious. It is worth trying. Another great place is “Les Filles”, number 46, Rue du Vieux Marché aux Grains, which is the street leading from Sainte-Catherine towards Saint-Gery. It offers a buffet-style lunch and dinner, shared tables, and a limited choice of dishes, but it is always extremely good and reasonably priced. Smaller but always delicious is the “La Guingette en Ville” restaurant on the “Place du Béguinage” square also in the neighbourhood. Bars/nightlife: Our favourite bar is Via Via on the same side as the house, 100 m to the left. It is a great place and well known by all travellers. For more bars and nightlife, we always recommend starting in and around the Saint-Gery covered market.
