Traditional Spanish finca/villa

Bedrooms 3
Property type villa
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, sleeps 6 - 8

A 200-year-old restored finca (villa) in the traditional Spanish style, unique in its setting and styling.

From the stone walls, hand-cast terracotta tiles and wooden shutters, to the beautiful bancales surrounding the property, this is a place visitors return to year after year.

The views of the Montgo National Park from the gardens and lookout, are breathtaking, with the valley laid out in front.

There are three bedrooms - a master bedroom with kingsize bed, ensuite bathroom and balcony views of the pool and gardens; two twin rooms which share a shower room with power shower. These sleep 6 adults comfortably.

For two exta beds, a double, good quality sofa-bed can be made up downstairs, and a further large single sofa-bed. These two extra beds are in the living-room areas. However, when these are made up there is still one, large, separate living room in which to lounge.

A large living area includes two living rooms, a reading annex and a large kitchen-dining room.

Outside there are several areas to choose from, depending on the time of day. Outside the kitchen-diner, in front of the pool is a lounging area with sofas and chairs and an outdoor dining table - perfect for breakfast by the pool!

A large BBQ area sits just to the right of the kitchen with BBQ and paella facilities. Steel cafe chairs set around wooden tables are perfect for long lazy lunches while you watch the kids in the pool.

By the pool area is a relaxed, shabby-chic, chill out area with sofas and large coffee table, all shaded to keep you cool during the height of summer - great at any time of day and perfect for afternoon siestas.

A look-out area in the gardens provides more seating options with a view of the Montgo which is hard to beat. Sit here and watch the sunset and the mountain turn pink and red while you sip a sundowner and listen to the birds.

La Mariposa is in a unique setting only minutes from the village activity of Jesus Pobre, and only a ten minute drive from the hubbub of Javea and Denia towns and beaches. Our rates include everything! No added extras. Cleaning before and after your stay is included. All linen provided except beach towels.

About Siobhan Horner

My husband and I bought this property over fifteen years ago, to have a place in Spain near family. My husband has a long association with Spain, having relatives in Valencia and visiting every summer since he was born.

We lived in the property for ten years. Now we rent it out over peak times and visit when we can. Our three children all learnt to swim in the pool. They clambered and played in the tree house ( which we put in specially for them) for years, and still love to roam the grounds when we are back.

Siobhan Horner purchased this villa in 2002

Why Siobhan Horner chose Pedreguer

It's special. There's nothing like it around. We always completely relax and unwind when we are there; get back to our true selves. It might be the birdsong in the morning, the evening sun over the Montgo or simply the calming air.

What makes this villa unique

We loved the fact that you cannot see the property until you are almost upon it. We love the pool area, the extensive grounds that roll off into the pine woodland. We loved the sense of freedom it gives us.

Peace, tranquility, space aaaaand relax

  • 4 of 5

Each of us enjoyed (party of 7) our time at La Mariposa and the surrounding locality. Fab pool and outside spaces, great traditional property, with resident gekko whom we named Gordon. Well equipped kitchen, spacious lounge and bedrooms, the teenagers enjoyed the books, dvd collection, table football and outdoor darts.

Gas barbecue rusty, uninviting and full of water on arrival, charcoal barbecue similar, outdoor pizza oven not in service so ended up cooking indoors mainly, great choice of dining areas indoor and out. Many seating areas, some lovely views.

Supermarkets within a few minutes drive. Jesus pobre market (evening in summer) well worth a visit. Great steaks at Gaucho's with complimentary courses included.

Beach at Javea vibrant with lots of eateries and opportunities to shop.

Great holiday, La Mariposa was a great find, feeling relaxed and smiling as I write this review, well worth a visit! Thanks for sharing your lovely little part of Spain with us.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review - and what a lovely review. Also wonderful to hear that all ages found somewhere to enjoy. We are very sorry to hear that the barbecue area was dirty, and have taken this up with our cleaners. These areas are supposed to be left useable and clean for each new arrival. Hope to welcome you back to La Mariposa another time.

What a find! Stunning villa/finca with everything you want for a relaxing family holiday. We were 2 adults , 2 16 year olds and a 3 year old and there was something for them all. Pool was great and the tree house a hit with the toddler! Village was just a 5 min drive and Javea port was beautiful. Most relaxed we have ever been on a holiday didn't want to come home . Thank you

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your review. As you say, there are so many different outside areas where you can chill out and take in the view - poolside, looking at the Montgo mountain at sunset, in the grounds. With the tree house, rope swing, pool and extensive grounds you can really relax and get away from it all, whilst your children are busy playing.

Fantastic holiday for all the family!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Mariposa in early October and had the most fabulous time. The house is beautiful, full of character and the grounds are breathtaking. You could easily stay here without wanting to leave the house and it's fabulous gardens, however if you did fancy a drive to the local towns and beaches they are no distance. This was a fantastic holiday and we couldn't of chosen a better house to stay in!

a place you will want to go back to

  • 5 of 5

We spent 2 weeks in lLa Mariposa, from

Mid until end of September.

The villa is full of character, tastefully decorated and providing everything you need for a perfect holiday. The swimming pool is fenced, being separated from the main garden. This makes it considerably safer for young children.

We loved the mature gardens, with beautiful flowers, pomegranate, olives and lemon trees. The surrounding area is private and tranquil.

La Mariposa is 15 min drive from lovely beaches in Denia and Javea. Both towns have charming old areas and plenty of shops and restaurants. Benidorm , with many options for children entertainment , is less then 40 min drive away.

The owner of La Mariposa thought of everything : there are books, DVDs and games for all ages. For those who find the internet vital during a holiday, 3G works really well. We used the maps on iphone for getting around on back rounds in the countryside, there is no need for satnav.

We had a great relaxing holiday and fell in love with La Mariposa. We really hope to return one day.

Dit huis is een echte aanrader. Binnen heel veel ruimte en een fijne keuken om in te verblijven. Buiten is het geweldig. Heel veel verschillende zitjes, veel te doen voor de kinderen en een fijn zwembad. Een top huis!

Jesus Pobre is our local village, typically Spanish with restaurants, bars, cafes and even a bank with cash point. There are many fiestas held here throughout the year, and are not to be missed! The village boasts several shops including a supermarket and a bakery providing daily fresh bread and local specialities. On Thursdays a local market is held where you can buy local produce and fresh vegetables and fruit.

La Sella golf course is a few minutes drive away and golf, tennis and horse-riding can be arranged here.

On the edge of the Montgo National Park we have outstanding views and complete peace and tranquillity.

This area is ideally placed for a complete retreat, but yet it is within striking distance of incredible beaches, restaurants, beaches and bars. Jesus Pobre has several restaurants and one of our favourites, La Tasca. Here you eat in a geranium-clad stone courtyard under the stars, and can watch the barn owl fly in and out of its nest in the church roof.
