We are a military family who fell in love with the Shenandoah valley, retired near DC and look forward to many weekends spent fishing and enjoying the cabin.
Michael Dickon purchased this cabin in 2014
Close to all that the Shenandoah Valley has to offer, great location to get away from it all.
Lots of water for the kids and dogs to play with, can spend hours fishing, barbecuing, and watching the water flow by.
We spent a lovely weekend at this cabin, right on the river. The cabin was comfortable and had everything necessary for a great weekend. We brought our our Kayaks but there were kayaks provided by the owner available to use. The fishing was great. Would recommend this for a family weekend in the mountains.
We loved this cabin. The location was great for us, close to Luray caverns, sky line drive and more. The River out back we enjoyed by all my husband grown son and daughter and the grandkids couldn't get enough of it. Every thing you need is there. The canoe was a nice surprise. The downstairs beds we as comfortable as some 5 star hotel beds. A washer and dryer would have been nice but other than that we were very pleased.
We had a wonderful time in the house near the river. Made of wood, wel equipped, fire flies in front and deers in the field behind. Lovely fire place. It is possible to canoo upstream, but is takes effort. You better have a pick up truck, of arrange transport. We love to go back, but it's a bit far from Holland.
We had a wonderful holiday weekend at this cabin. I enjoyed sitting on the porch listening to the rushing river. Our small children are not strong enough swimmers to go tubing yet, but they enjoyed waving to those floating by. We easily accessed Shenandoah National Park, hiking in the mornings with our dogs, and then relaxing in the afternoons. Plenty of games and movies at the cabin for rainy days. Neighbors next door were quite friendly. We brought charcoal and grilled dinner every night. We went grocery shopping at the Luray Walmart when we first arrived. We brought firewood and enjoyed a campfire and s'mores our last night. The rain on the roof just added to a relaxing white noise. Plenty of space for our family of four plus two small dogs.
A couple things that caused me to give less than 5 stars. First, the cabin could use a deep cleaning. It wasn't bad, but a few dust bunnies were found in corners and under furniture (We had to dig a marble out from under the sofa. We found a set of four coasters underneath.) The trash can was annoying. The lid would not stay shut, so to keep odors enclosed we kept a lantern on top and had to move it when we wanted to throw something away. Not sure what we were supposed to do with additional trash. We filled a bag and couldn't take it outside. We took it with us and struggled to find the dump, had to find alternate disposal. After that, we were willing to take our trash out but didn't want to get stuck toting it back our 4.5 hour drive, so we left the trash with the required tip for housekeeping.
All in all, great cabin, great time. We definitely recommend the cabin. Michael was always nice and easy to contact. Thanks!
The lodge was a great location. The outside was awesome. The house was smaller, but we knew that prior to staying. We picked the house based on the location to the river. The house had a great selection of games and movies. The house was sort of clean (got dusty easily). The vacuum provided didn't pick up anything. The air mattress did not stay inflated, so it wasn't able to be used as a bed. The beds were pretty uncomfortable. We had a great time and loved being in nature. It would also be a great addition to have a washer and dryer in the house.
Our stay was awesome. There were 4 adults and 4 children including our 8 month old granddaughter. The cabin was a perfect size with the kids sleeping in the loft on the futon and air mattress. Full kitchen with dishwasher was quite a blessing. The living room included a large flat screen TV with a nice DirectTV package. Jacuzzi tub in the bathroom and a hot tub in the the loft which my kids loved. The cabin was very clean and no issues of having our little one craw all over on her own. Air conditioning was great during the day when we wanted a cool place to hang out. There was even a baby gate to put at the bottom of the steps. I know we would have had to purchase one to keep our little one off the steps.
Large deck overlooking the river -- can't get any more relaxing than that. The river was great for the kids since it was only 1-4 feet deep. The yard was large enough for the kids to kick the soccer ball around and throw the football. The cabin included use of a canoe and 4 kayaks and a large selection of life jackets in all sizes. We were able to transport the kayaks in our Subaru Forester to a close by access and which was a great way to teach the kids how to kayak. After a few 20 minute floats down the river we took the canoe and kayaks to an access and enjoyed a 2 hour float back to the cabin. We enjoyed the fire ring in the yard with lots of cookouts. There is also a walkway/deck completely around the cabin. Enjoyed sitting on the backside of the cabin overlooking the field and watching the deer.
Things to keep in mind:
Bring your own firewood or plan on purchasing there
There is 1 flight of stairs to the deck and another flight of stairs to the cabin. Plan on walking lots of steps.
Because of the Jacuzzi tub in the bathroom the step is fairly high and there is no grip bar.
Think ahead about transporting canoe and kayaks. We borrowed a few straps from a neighbor to haul the canoe on the top of the Subaru.
We will definitely stay here again. Michael was a great communicator prior to our visit and answered any questions we had.
