|Property type||chateau / country house|
|Minimum Stay||3 nights|
On the hillside overlooking Woody Point, Bonne Bay and Gros Morne Mountain, on the road to Trout River and the majestic Tablelands this cabin is located in one of the most beautiful and scenic areas to be found anywhere. Parks Canada's Discovery Centre is in walking distance. Located on the outskirts of the town, this property is peaceful and private.
Woody Point is a registered heritage community, located within a UNESCO World Heritage site, Gros Morne National Park. The town is well known for the Writers at Woody Point Festival each August, as well as being a location for the wonderful summer events of Gros Morne Summer Music.
There is a television in the house, but currently no cable service although there are videos to watch if requested. There is cellular coverage for companies using the Bell cell network and recently the Rogers network became available here too. There is no telephone in the house.
There is a lot on the go in Woody Point during the peak of the season. In the spring I send an email to guests coming for the season with information about the area.
Some comments from my guest book:
"We had a fantastic time staying in your cabin!The view from the back deck combined with the extra comfy bed made it the perfect stay! :-)"
"Thank you for the great house! We lived the view and had a wonderful time in Gros Morne. We loved the wildlife at your house, a noise came to visit one morning, we also saw hummingbirds and crows."
"We stayed in your wonderfully artistic, warm & inviting home for the last days of our 2 week visit to Newfoundland. It rained, but fortunately your house us so delightful it did not matter. We made great food in your kitchen, so well stocked, and enjoyed the deck when the rain paused."
"We had a wonderful time at your cabin. Amazing views, great weather, many hiking adventures. Lived sitting on the back deck enjoying the beautiful views. Learned many interesting facts about the area. Everyone is so friendly."
"Thank you for sharing this lovely retreat with us. It was the perfect home base for exploration if the Park & local communities. The night at the Seaside was particularly memorable - the music was lovely!"
My Dad was from Woody Point, and I have recently built this house on land given to me by my aunt, for whom the property is named. My aunt was a well-known outdoors woman in her day.
There are great Park Trails nearby, such as the Green Gardens Trail. Gros Morne Mountain is on the north side of the park, about an hour's drive around the bay, where also are the communities of Norris Point and Rocky Harbour. Also the Western Brook Pond is located north of Rocky Harbour.
Cozy home with a beautiful view of Bonne Bay and the Tablelands. Just minutes from Woody Point, the Discovery Centre, the Tablelands and Green Gardens hiking trail, it is the ideal location to enjoy many beautiful hikes and activities. We loved our stay in Gros Morne!
Spent 4 days here with hubby, son, daughter in law and their dog. Chalet was as described in listing, but better. It was comfortable and homey with enough room for all of us. The beds were comfortable, the view was fantastic. We enjoyed relaxing on the deck in the evening after a long day of hiking. The location was perfect and we spent our days hiking and exploring nearby towns. The owner was very helpful and suggested many of the places we visited. We would definitely stay there again if we visit Newfoundland again.
Having spent 4 nights here and seen the entire park, I cannot imagine there is a better place to stay in all of Gros Morne. We loved meeting Gayle, and her house is as comfortable as home. We hope to come back!
Woody Point is renowned for its beauty. It is nearby to the Tablelands, part of an ancient oceanic tectonic plate, and evidence of the theory of tectonic plate movement. Beauty and the Tablelands are 2 of the reasons that Gros Morne National Park has UNESCO World Heritage status.
Park and community trails and walking are nearby, also the Parks Canada Discovery Centre is very close. I have a great view of Gros Morne Mountain, for which the park is named, but you'll have to drive around the bay to climb it, as it is on the north side of the park, along with Rocky Harbour and Norris Point.
Woody Point is home of St. Patrick's Church, now a performance space where many events of Gros Morne Summer Music are held. Also we are the home of the famous and immensely popular festival "Writers at Woody Point" each year in August.
Pets welcome in general, please ask regarding pets.
