Our property is located just west of downtown Austin and our home and our guest house are situated on 2 1/4 acres. We named it Campo de Paz (Place/Country of Peace) because it a very tranquil location and space. Here, you are just outside the hustle of the city, yet close enough to enjoy the best of both worlds; rejuvenate yourself in the countryside or explore all that Austin has to offer. Better yet, do both! The choice is yours! You are just minutes away from both Lake Austin, Lake Travis, The Hill Country Galleria, and plenty of great restaurants. Relax on your own private deck and watch for deer! Listen for owls and in the spring, you might be lucky enough to hear the whippoorwills. The charming one bedroom (approximately 255 square feet), one bath guest house is furnished with a comfy queen bed, walk-in shower, plenty of closet space, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker and electric kettle. Gourmet Nespresso coffee and a selection of Tazo teas are provided. Freshly made chocolate chip cookies or other goodies will be waiting for you when you arrive. Free wi-fi is available along with a 32' TV (99 channels).
We love to travel and have a passion for collecting folk art and for cooking. Japan, Australia, Mexico, Italy, France and England are a few of the places we've traveled. We love to stay in Bed and Breakfasts and were inspired to build one of our own. We each have a background in fine arts and have taught art both privately and in schools for years. We designed and built the house ourselves. The current guest house was once part of Carolyn's ceramics studio. We have just listed our guest house on VRBP/HomeAway and we look forward to hosting visitors to Austin and the Lake Travis/Lake Austin area.
Carolyn and Cap Brooks purchased this apartment in 1982
When we were first married, we found this piece of property and bought it. We love Austin and wanted to settle down in a place that we built. the neighborhood has grown over the years but our property still makes you feel you are in a very private, secluded, and peaceful place.
Very nice! Things we enjoyed: expresso, homemade cookies, satellite TV, nice porch and landscaping, and better than average bathroom. The location was very convenient to One World Theatre and Strange Land Brewing. The owners were very friendly and made us feel welcome. We hope to stay here again!
Lovely, quiet, private. Room is well appointed, bathroom is great. Clean, well maintained. Very convenient for us as we were visiting people in the neighborhood. If you want ready, easy access to downtown Austin, it's probably not going to be convenient. Only complaint is that a (freezing) cold front came through (it was December) and the highs were in the 30's and the lows in the 20's. The heat pump in the room couldn't keep up, so it was cold. We have stayed other times of the year, and it was very comfortable then. I would definitely recommend it.
We loved the wooded retreat in the West Lake hills above Austin. It was Not too far from the city, and near plenary of dining options. Major highways were all several miles away and easy to access. Hosts were friendly, helpful, and very accommodating.
We really enjoyed our stay. There were fresh cookies waiting for us. Plenty of coffee for the next morning. A fridge and microwave in room. Our hosts greeted us upon arrival and then disappeared (in a good way). We felt very private and special.
Aesthetic. Quiet. Very private. Easy access to Hill Country sites and easy access to outer Austin amenities. Hosts are super accommodating.
My wife and I stayed at Cap & Carolyn's place for Austin City Limits and it was perfect for us. Everything was as described and well cared for. Cap and Carolyn were great hosts, extremely welcoming and helpful, and provided us with the legendary, complimentary chocolate chip cookies as well as a lovely breakfast (on request, for a very reasonable $15). Highly recommended!
The property is close to major shopping areas, cinemas, restaurants, and spas. We are 15 minutes from Austin City Limits Music Festival site and very close to three area parks, all of which have great hiking trails. Austin's Barton Springs Pool is just 15 minutes away. We are 20 minutes from the Arboretum shopping area and 25 minutes from The Domain, Austin's premier shopping enclave.
