Short 5 minute walk to private small beach access on the crystal clear five mile long Rainbow river which is popular with snorkelers. The Rainbow flows into the darker Withlacoochee river which has good bass fishing. Parking and restrooms available at our private access.
Country Club Estates at Rainbow Springs has private preferred up river access which has covered picnic areas, grills, a private kayak launching lagoon and a small beach/swimming area. Up river location gives the ability to do shorter kayak trips up to the head springs with less traffic then enjoy a peaceful drift back to the private access. Excellent snorkel spot right in front of the private access.
River temperature is 72 degrees year round (cool in Summer and warm in winter). Kayak/ canoe and tube rentals available at very close state park and the walkable KP hole facility.Tree shaded neighborhood. Neighbor's homes are well maintained.
Rainbow river is a clear river (only 5.7 miles long) and flows into the darker Withlacoochee River. The Withlacoochee river which flows into Lake Rousseau which is known as a top area for bass fishing. Inexpensive motor boat rentals are available at the Blue Gator restaurant.
Home has a screened in porch with a covered out door dining area. Fireplace. Peaceful street. 2 Riverside restaurants (among others) are in Dunnellon and the Front Porch restaurant has excellent breakfasts and excellent home made pies of all kinds. Ocala Fl (Horse country) is 30 minutes away with many good restaurants.
Winn Dixie and large Walmart are a short drive away. Dunnellon is a small town but has everything you need. Gainesville (43 miles away) is home of Univ. of FL and has museums and one of the best hospitals in the country.
Adjacent Rainbow Springs state park used to be a location for glass bottom boats and has beautiful azalea gardens and waterfalls. February and March feature bountiful blooming azaleas and is a popular time to visit the park. Otters swim playfully in the Rainbow river.
2 car garage, washer and dryer, dish washer, central air and heat. Glasses utensils and plates. Bath towels. Office desk and desk chair for your use..
Family of 5 who fell in love with the clear Rainbow River. Love the snorkeling as the water is clear like the Bahamas. People snorkel year round due to the constant 72 degree water. Kayaking up stream to the bordering state park head waters (checking out the spring fed lagoons on the way) then drifting back to the private access is very easy.
Bill Byrd purchased this house in 2013
We bought this home because the crystal clear Rainbow river is so beautiful. This home is a way to be close to nature with civilization close by. We border the State Park that used to be a theme park with glass bottom boats which still has waterfalls and beautiful gardens.
The Central FL location puts you within range of numerous top tier day trips such as the loaded Disney World area, Busch Gardens, Clearwater beach and Gainesville Univ of FL museums. Return to a peaceful town. Dunnellon is considered to be a part of the famous Nature Coast of Florida.
Take a relaxed tube ride down the Rainbow River. Rent a pontoon boat or a small boat for a very reasonable price at the Blue Gator restaurant which has excellent steamed shrimp and seafood and has outdoor dining with occasional bands and indoor dining.
The up river access we have has less traffic than the lower river. As you go further down the river is where more people get in the river (tubing down this cool clear slow moving river during the summer is popular). We are a short 20 minute drive to the city of Crystal River which is a popular scalloping spot for Floridians (scallop in Kings bay's shallow waters during July thru September). You can rent boats there. We also rent small or large motor boats at the Blue Gator Restaurant (for around 50 dollars for the smaller ones for a 1/2 day) and go up the river exploring. The gently winding Rainbow river is only 5.7 miles long and empties into the darker Withlaccooche river which has great fishing. The Rainbow River is an Aquatic Preserve with a first magnitude clear spring with numerous vents and sand boils.
We love the place and the city. My family declared these vacation the better they have had. The house and the neigbor were so nice and quiet, that we could have stayed there for years. Tha Rainbown river , just one mile behind the house, is the most beatiful thing we have seen. Definitely I recommend the house to enjoy wonderful vacacions. Thankss to Bill Byrd for being so helpfull
Nice, large, clean home in a well kept subdivision. Easy access to the Rainbow River. Exactly what we wanted.
The pictures of the house does not do it justice. There is everything you need to enjoy your stay at the house. Not having TV or Wifi was also awesome. Got to spend more time talking and playing games as a family, instead of glued to the TV. we even got to rent a movie and watch that as well. The backyard is so tranquil and soft. Very meditative and relaxing. Loved every minute of the stay. Rainbow Rover is less than 5minute slow drive from the front door of the property.
Large house with a lot of storage but poorly maintained. No hot water. No microwave. No vacuum cleaner. Cheap non working kitchen wares. Lanai is very dirty. My husband bought a garage door opener. Door knobs on hall bath and small bedroom did not work. Overall rating for this house is 1 out of 5.
The Byrd home was fantastic! Great location with close, easy access to Rainbow Springs where we enjoyed kayaking and snorkeling (river to slow for tubing). Easy to get in at private river access and get out at KP Hole. The house was very clean and spacious. More importantly the home is dog friendly with a great mud room for the dogs to stay at when they weren't with us. Neighborhood great for walking dogs. Close to town and to grocery store. We will definitely consider staying hear again if we return to Dunnellon.
I stayed here for a few months. it was comfortable and it felt like home. It was safe and quiet and my dogs loved the yard. The owner was so nice and helpful and he made me feel very welcome
