Le Mazarine : Chic, Historic, Romantic, Latin Quarter/St Germain

Bedrooms 2
Space 500 sq ft
Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 4 nights

About the property

1 queen bed + 2 single bunks + 1 bathroom/wc + wifi + 3 flights up (NO elevator)

Le Mazarine, on the street named after the infamous Cardinal Mazarin, who educated the young King Louis XIV in the ways of the crown, is known for it's Art Galeries, Chic Boutiques, Food Specialty stores, and its proximity to the famous, and always interesting Rue Buci, the Place Odéon and the Romantic Pont des Arts bridge, with the thousands of inscribed pad locks left by lovers from around the Globe.

As you enter the 16th Century building, protected by Paris' Historic Society, you'll feel like you've stepped back in time, with its cobble stoned courtyard and wood framed buildings. The stairwell has original rod iron details, exposed stone and wood framing.

You'll head up 1 flight of stairs, pass through a corridor, and then up 2 more flights to your Paris Haven.

The apartment is unique, once owned by an actor from the Comédie Francaise, with an opened plan, loft style floor plan. It has a modern feel, but with warm lines, natural wood details, and clever modular features.

There are 4 windows, 2 looking over the enclosed, quiet courtyard, and 2 double windows over the quaint Rue Mazarine.

You'll first pass by the open-plan kitchen, with a window over the courtyard, plenty of counter space and fully equipped with a dishwasher, 4 burner electric cook-top, drip coffer maker, toaster, and all the utensils needed to make your own gourmet meals with the fresh ingredients found in the grocery store just across the street, 1 minute from the apartment.

There's a clothes washer/dryer combo machine, also a rack for drying clothes, and iron and ironing board as well.

The living area, with it's double window, has built in features, that can be adapted for various uses, like the couch with storage under the cushions, the expansive dining table, that can be extended when receiving guests, and the dish cupboard, that can be rotated to expose glasses on one side and dishes on the other.

The bedroom can be seen from the living room via an open wood barrier, allowing light from both windows throughout the apartment, but there is a wood panel that slides, to isolate the living area when necessary.

The apartment is quipped with flat screen TV, WiFi, Cabled TV, and Free International phone calls.

The bedroom has a Queen sized bed (160x200cm) and another double window with plenty of light.

The clothes storage area is deep, and there's room to place luggage on top.

The second bedroom, with a large window over the courtyard (equipped with an electric shutter), has two bunk beds (90x200cm) - being suitable for 2 children - or for 1 adult only on the bottom bunk - the top bunk is not suitable for an adult.

The bathroom, between the bedrooms, has a sink, and walk in shower (the toilet is separate, in the entry way).

The bathroom has curtains each side, to separate it from the bedrooms.

*Le Mazarine is very open-planned style, with the living room open to the main bedroom.

There are partial panels that give some privacy to the main bedroom, but in general it is open to the living room, so there aren't 2 separate, private bedrooms.

The bathroom is between the bedrooms, separated by curtains.

The 2nd bedroom has bunk beds, which are more appropriate for children.

This apartment works well for close knit families who enjoy being together when travelling.

The apartment is unique, decorated with a retro feel, but with modern, comfortable features.

It's location is spectacular, with proximity to the Seine, the Latin Quarter, St Germain area, and the Jardin de Luxembourg.

Le Mazarine, which is close to transportation, food stores, restaurants, Jazz clubs, chic shops, and in the heart of one of the most sought after neighborhoods, is a perfect chez-vous in Paris!

Very good apartment and great location

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at this apartment in Paris. It is in a fantastic location, very accessible and many great places to eat and hang out. Also, easy walk to many Paris tourist spots. My wife and I were very happy at this location and would go back. The only thing you have to be aware of is that it is on an upper floor with no elevator and unusual steps, so if you have issues carrying your suitcases, it could be challenging. Also, the apartment has some step up and down to the different rooms.

It was not a big deal for us, though. I would definitely go back! Also, it was very easy to check in and check out! The owners are excellent and know what they are doing. The apartment was very clean and everything worked!

Fantastic location, great apartment for our first visit to Paris!

  • 5 of 5

The apartment is located in a great district with a lot of restaurants and walking distance to many major sites and museums. The king bed and bunk beds for the kids were very comfortable. The apartment is clean, and there were many thoughtful touches including two extra outlet converters. We would definitely recommend this apartment to our friends and would stay here again if we are lucky enough to come back to Paris someday!

Perfect for a family of 4 who want to stay in a great part of Paris

  • 5 of 5

This modestly sized apartment was really great. As others mentioned the location was unbeatable. Lots of great shops nearby, grocery store, Paul's, chocolatiers, just anything you could want. There is a parking garage right across the street in case you decide to rent a car. Also there is a caviar tasting bar across the street.

There is a decent amount of closet space. One bathroom with curtains providing privacy. The "parents" bed has zero privacy so keep that in mind. The kids room with bunk beds is just on the other side of the bathroom with two curtains between you. It's not as bad as it sounds but you should be a family that gets along pretty well. :)

Kitchen has everything you will need. For coffee and tea there is an electric pot, french press, etc. Lots of varieties of cups. Plenty of dishes and glasses.

Few things to note:

-There are 3 flights of stairs. It's not terrible if you are in good shape but I hope you don't forget anything that you suddenly remember when you get to the bottom of the stairs.

-Internet works great. Lots of TV channels.

-Feels safe with a nicely bolted door. No actual safe inside but it didn't feel like you would need it. Nice area. Tenants of the building seem nice and there is some kind of office on the first floor with a few people working in it.

-Owners were highly responsive when we had trouble with the shower head. I reported it in the morning and it was fixed by evening time.

-If you are senstive to noise there are scooters and motorcycles going by on the street below. If you sleep with the windows open, you may get woken. I used ear plugs and I was perfectly happy.

-Washing clothes was easy but the dryer wasn't great. Better to let things hang dry.

-Beds were surprisingly comfortable. Very restful sleep. Good pillows too.

-Important: When you get there, make sure the refrigerator is set to at least "6". Any lower and things may not be as cold as you would want. I think they put it at "1" between guests to save electricity.

We will definitely be returning!

One last thing: Our flight was nearly canceled due to Air France labor strike. We didn't know until the last minute. The owner was willing to let us stay for an extra couple of nights making sure that we were taken care of. Very kind.

Perfect location

  • 5 of 5

Vacationing with my spouse and our 2 grandkids ages 7 and almost 5. For us, ability to quickly access locations and quickly get back for "downtime" was paramount. Couldn't have asked for a better location. Close to metro/RER and enough sites to even walk to while accompanied by slower walkers.

Building and courtyard have character and enough amenities to be charming for a short stay. I really appreciated the littles things provided by the owners - extra adapters, laundry pods, printer access. The printer was esp handy for prebooking tickets to the louvre.

Would absolutely stay here again.

The only downside was the size of the toilet space. However - very old (historical) building so have to expect trade offs like this.

Again, overall it exceeded my expectations.

The Rue Mazarine is lined with chic shops, art galleries, small cafés, tea rooms, and there's a grocery store across the street, and even an underground parking lot.

Heading towards the Seine you'll arrive at the romantic, Pont des Arts bridge.

Heading in the other direction, you'll enter the heart of the Latin Quarter, arriving first at the always lively Rue Buci, with cafés, restaurants, jazz clubs, specialty food shops, and more. Next you'll arrive at the exciting Place de L'Odéon and the Blvd St Germain, with its convenient metro stops, cinemas, chic shops, and from there in a couple more blocks you'll enter the amazing Jardin de Luxembourg.
