Welcome to House 46 at Pajaro Dunes, also known as 'The Sanctuary.' This is an oceanfront, single family home stocked full of everything you might need, and more! It has its own driveway and garage for convenient access (unlike other homes you can only access by a long boardwalk with a cart).

The living room, dining room and kitchen all face the ocean with full ocean views. Look for whales and dolphins! The three-sided river rock fireplace is charming and cozy. A back deck runs the length of the home, and an ocean view sunroom allows for beach watching while fully indoors. The sunroom makes this home particularly great for grandparents who want to watch little ones enjoy the beach but not walk down. Most of the home is on one level, with just three steps separating the living room area from the 'bedroom wing.'

This home sleeps up to 12 adults on comfortable beds, plus 2 kids on fold-out foam chairs, in the following configuration:

(1) Master: king bed and en suite bathroom, some ocean view (sleeps 2);

(2) Sitting Room: adjoins master (separated by a curtain not wall), has pull-out couch with queen memory foam mattress (brand new), wet bar, and ocean view (sleeps 2);

(3) Second master: king bed and en suite bathroom (sleeps 2);

(4) Hall bedroom: a queen bed, plus a set of twin bunks, plus a loft with a double futon platform bed (sleeps 6), share hall bathroom

The sleeping arrangements are flexible such that the Master and adjoining sitting room can be a 'family' bedroom using the queen pull-out couch. They are separated by a curtain. Or, the hall bedroom can also be a 'family' bedroom as it has a queen bed plus a set of twin bunks, plus a double futon mattress in a cool loft that kids love.

PLEASE NOTE THAT WE INCREASED OUR MAXIMUM HEADCOUNT TO 14 BUT ONLY IF IT INCLUDES AT LEAST 2 KIDS. The home will be "cozy" with that many people. It would feel more spacious with 10-12 people. We do count all kids in total headcounts.

The separation between the bedroom wing and the gathering rooms in this home provides excellent privacy when needed for contemplation, alone time or a peaceful midday nap.

The large, updated kitchen can accommodate multiple chefs to create amazing feasts for your group. A wall oven plus a microwave and stovetop, two sinks, and all the pots, pans, plates, cutlery, glassware and cook's tools you could want. (There is also easy and fast delivery from nearby Watsonville, choose from Chinese or Pizza!) A new Weber propane BBQ is right outside the kitchen on a deck sheltered from ocean breezes where outdoor furniture allows you to relax and eat outside (we provide propane plus a spare). An extra fridge in the garage is a great resource for storing ice, food and drinks for your group's entire stay.

House 46 also offers dedicated wifi for surfing, working or streaming, plus flat-screen TVs, Comcast cable channels, and Blu-Ray DVD players. It also has beach supplies, toys and games for kids, and an extensive book and DVD lending library. We have a high chair and pak n play for the little ones, along with step stools in every bathroom.

Pajaro Dunes itself is a private, gated community directly on the dunes of Monterey Bay.

Because only those occupying Pajaro Dunes accommodations can enter the community, the beach at Pajaro Dunes is quiet and you may have it all to yourself much of the time. Activities abound in Pajaro Dunes, including surfing, tennis, basketball, sand volleyball, shuffleboard, birding, and shelling (all inside the community).

It is also a quick and easy drive to Santa Cruz, Monterey, the Monterey Aquarium, Carmel, the redwoods of the Forest of Nisene Marks in Aptos, berry picking, Gilroy garlic festival and Gilroy outlet shopping. Fishing and whale watching excursions can be booked out of nearby Moss Landing, which is also the closest surf break (although plenty of people surf and boogie board at Pajaro Dunes).

The house was beautiful and had everything you could possibly need already there. They advertise that the house holds 14 people but when you get the contract it says 12 but other than that everything was perfect. We will be staying again

Absolutely amazing!

The pictures do not do it justice. It's spacious, comfortable and gorgeous with plenty of lounging options, cooking supplies, VERY quiet and VERY easy access to the beach. I wish I could live there.

My only complaints, which do not warrant star removal is you have to be flexible with the sleeping arrangements. Be aware there are unblockable sky-lights in the bunk bed room and the loft room. You'll be waking with the sunrise in those rooms and some may find it more comfortable to sleep on the couches.

Additionally, dead jellies wash up on the beach, and it is a minefield of their bodies. We accidentally stepped on a few with no harm done, so it's not a huge concern, but I'm sure there is still a risk of getting stung. Otherwise the beach is a jackpot of beautiful clam shells and sand dollars. It is so addicting hunting for the perfect shells. And you find SO many that you want to take home. The weather in May was comfortable and we walked right out in our bathing suits.

We'll be back.

Owner's Response: Hi and thanks for your feedback! Things do wash up on the beach, different items come and go throughout the year depending on seasons, tides -- sometimes it's seaweed, or piles of little crab shells, the cycles of nature! I've never seen stinging jellyfish myself but could happen! Usually the clear non-stinging jellies will wash up for a week or so and then they are gone. Thank you for pointing out the light and bright bedroom - it is nice and cheery during the day but can see how the morning sun could be important to know. If anyone wishes to sleep in please do bring an eye mask if you are sleeping in the third bedroom with the bunks and loft, until we figure out a solution -- the skylights are odd sizes and locations so will take some creativity!

Great location, good setup for kids.

The house worked great for our stay with 5 kids ages 3-11. The setup of the house allows for little ones to run free oon the deck without escaping and the trikes/ toys were fun for them in the relatively quite cul de sac. Beach access was wonderful and bonfire with Smores a highlight. House is a little dated in the kitchen especially, and laundry is in the garage, but all in all these were not big negatives. We loved our stay and would book again!!
