Great location and owner was wonderful to work with.
Beautiful views - far from the heart of the city
We enjoyed our time and by far the best part of the apartment is the view from the patio. Great for sipping coffee and having breakfast while taking in the view. However, the apartment is a good distance away from the center of the city and it is not in the prettiest part of town at all. If staying in Nice or Villefranche, I'd recommend staying in the heart of the old town or on the water. Driving is pretty treacherous around the apartment so the ideal is to stay in an area where you can walk to restaurants / bakeries / cafes etc. and that is not possible here - you have to drive. There is also an issue with the lock of the front door so please be careful when using. As a host, Mary was very responsive and her friend was extremely helpful (who we met when we arrived at the apartment).
While it is true that the Villa is not in the thick of the downtown area, I would not describe it as far. A mere 5-minute drive gets you to the heart of Villefranche and the same 5 minutes removes you from the noise and chaos of the town. It is to your benefit to have a car so that you can take advantage of the wonderful location and explore all the towns and villages of the Cote d’Azur. Villa Maitena offers the best of both worlds.
Always a wonderful experience
I've been coming to this property for many years with groups of friends. The location is perfect, the views are stunning, and the property is clean, well maintained and with all the comforts you would need. A well supplied kitchen area allows for local shopping at the markets and cooking at home. Plenty of bathroom space, comfortable beds, screens on the windows, air conditioning if it gets too warm - but I've never used it. Terrific laundry facilities with a washer and a dryer. Wonderful hiking and running opportunity available through the park and trails outside your door allow you to experience the beauty of the location. You won't be disappointed if you stay at Villa Maitena - I never am!
New Year's Escape
Although it is not normally considered the best time of year to travel to the Côte d'Azur, we spent 2 wonderful (and mainly sunny) weeks staying in Mary Ann's lovely Villa Maitena overlooking Villefranche. The check in was smooth; the facilities were as advertised and the wireless internet good. We had great access to Nice and the surrounding towns and it was a real treat to have a secure private parking spot (unusual in Villefranche). My wife attended the Institut Francais which was only a 5 minute walk away. We enjoyed our stay and the property so much that are already planning a return trip.
Nothing in this listing was exaggerated! The views were spectacular!! I so enjoyed starting the day looking at the view of the Mediterranean and the Alps. The location was great and it was easy to use the buses to get to Nice but it was most helpful to have a car to get around. It was an easy drive to the train station to get to coastal locations (Monaco, Menton, Cannes, etc). We drove to some beautiful locations, Eze, La Turbie, the Gorges du Verdun, and St Paul de Vence and of course Villefranche! It was so nice to have a comfortable and relaxing place to come home to each day! There was a large convenient store just a two minute walk down the hill and full service grocery stores a few miles away. There were many very good restaurants in Villefranche! My month on Mt. Alban was a wonderful adventure! If I have the opportunity to visit the south of France again, I will definitely plan to stay at this beautiful villa! Mary Ann, we can't thank you enough for sharing your little piece of heaven with us.
Nothing in this listing was exaggerated! The comfort, views, conveniences and location guaranteed an unforgettable week for the four of us gals. Each day we drove to many of the beautiful towns and attractions. Our favorites included Eze, Cap Antibes, St. Paul de Vence, La Turbie, Monaco, the Rothschild and Kerylos mansions on Cap Ferrat, the Gorge of Verdun, and of course, Villafranche!!
Mary Ann, we can't thank you enough for sharing your beautiful villa! Our week on Mt. Alban was truly amazing!
