If you want to 'get away from it all', this is the place! Extremely private, quiet, secluded, peaceful. Yet just 10 minutes to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and Volcano Village!
Unwind and relax at this charming 3 bedroom, 2 bath property on three acres in Volcano.
The house sits in a quiet area, surrounded by nature on all sides, including a large meadow, huge ferns, ohia trees and a short path that leads to a stunning on-property lava tube. It feels like you are staying inside the park!
The house has a large master bedroom with private bath and walk-in closet, an open concept fully equipped kitchen, cozy living room with wood burning stove and a private outdoor hot tub on the covered lanai. It sleeps 6. It’s a wonderful place for families, one, two or three couples or someone looking for a quiet and inspirational place to get away from everything.
You can soak in the hot tub after a hike in the National Park and visit some of the restaurants and art galleries in the village. Secret Garden also makes an ideal retreat for writing, studying or artwork.
The owners also have another popular vacation rental property in Volcano (VRBO # 611783).

Jeff and Cathy,
Words can't describe what a great time we have had staying in your house and exploring Kileaua and the surrounding area. We don't want to leave! This was our first VRBO experience, and it's been so enjoyable that we're sure it won't be our last. Your location was the best we could hope for. We were able to see a green sand beach and a black sand beach, as well, with a reasonably close drive. The hot tub was a welcome sight each evening, as we also hiked the Kau Desert and many other trails. If we make it back to the "big island", we'll look into staying with you again. Your house was comfy, cozy, and very secluded. Just what we like! Thanks, so much!
We loved our time at the Secret Garden. The home was so spacious and inviting. We spent the first half of our trip on the Kona side experiencing the sun and desert terrain. It was a nice change of scenery to experience the Hilo/Volcano side of the island. The vegetation is so lush and we loved the rainforest. The majority of our time at this property it was raining, hard, but being from Seattle, it reminded us of home and made this home feel even more warm and cozy. The lava tube on the property is also very cool. We took some pictures and checked it out, but made sure to stay behind the small fence that is up.
This property was very well stocked, the only thing we needed and didn't have was a cheese grater. It was very well equipped and we cooked most of our meals there.
Volcano National Park is about 5 miles away from the house and is definitely worth the drive. We spent a day there hiking, driving the Craters Road and also enjoyed dinner at the Volcano House restaurant so that we could see Kilauea glowing at night. After dinner we drove over to the Jagger Museum and it was amazing!! We looked through the telescope on-site and could see up close the lava bubbling and pouring out of the crevasse. It was awesome.
If you are looking to get away from it all, this is the place for you. Come and let the tree frogs sing you to sleep in the Secret Garden.
This house is in a very quite special garden area at paved road ends, no traffic, cool weather at night, clean home with full kitchen with coffee grinder and many others, jacuzzi was small only holds two people at a time. Nice lanai around front of home, great to barbecue and chill, we shopped at Costco and made all meals at home. One nice thing was close the windows and No crokey frogs noise. Very quite, sleep good. Also the lava tube was nice to go into and see!!
Well appointed house, perfect for an extended stay, located close to Volcano National Park, and only 30 minutes from Hilo for easy shopping. The hot tub was perfect for those brisk mornings and a great way to unwind after a day of hiking to see the lava.
Very private literally in a tropical rain forest, with chirping frogs singing you to sleep every night.
Well stocked kitchen, comfortable beds, firepit and wood burning stove for the chillier nights.
Very cozy. Wonderful spot!
We were anticipating a nice, cozy place as a base for exploring Volcanos NP. This house was better than expected. It's a full-size 3-BR house with a well-stocked kitchen, pack-and-play (we weren't expecting that!), everything we needed. Clearly the owners have great pride in the house and grounds and want guests to feel entirely at home. We did. Next time we're in this part of Hawaii we'll hope to stay here.
On the slopes of Mauna Loa, 13 minutes from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park main entrance and the town of Volcano Village
