Overview

About the property

3 Bedrooms, 3 Bathrooms, Sleeps 5

This is a special little place. It is tucked into a small alcove about 15-20 minutes by foot to the city centre of Samara. From the house you can walk 5-10 minutes to three beaches where you can surf, fish, swim, or go tide pooling. There is also a turtle refuge nearby. There are hiking trails in the hills above only minutes from your doorstep.

The home is well maintained and can accommodate up to 5 people. The master bedroom has a king sized bed and air conditioning for your comfort. The second bedroom has a double bed. The third bedroom will accommodate one person. ALL bedrooms have AC. There are three full bathrooms so no waiting when you are getting ready to go out to one of Samara's many fantastic restaurants.

The home has a swimming pool in a nicely landscaped backyard with mature fruit trees. There are three completely covered breezy patio areas and Parking. The fully equipped kitchen offers the comforts of home. The kitchen/lounge and dining room is an open floor plan with a comfy seating area looking out into the garden through double patio doors. Enjoy using the BBQ poolside.

The only noise that might disturb the peaceful state of Casa Ventura is the call of the Howler Monkey that can be heard during dusk and dawn. If you decide to go for a hike there is a good chance you will see one and can howl 'hello' back to them.

Casa Ventura, Samara remains a well-priced alternative for those wanting to stay near the sea and enjoy the tranquillity of a blossoming town with a low-key vibe.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Erin!

We were there 9 days under 2 reservations. I already wrote a comment for Jan 29 to Feb 5 (saying we were there 9 days in total). We had a wonderful stay and keep very good memories from it. I would recommend Casa Ventura to any of my friend.

Thanks again!

Great Vacation!!!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time staying at Casa Ventura! We were a little worried about being a little further from Samara so we rented 4 wheelers to get around, but quickly found out that we could walk or ride bikes to get to the beach pretty quickly. It was nice to come back to our quiet litle hideaway after a day at the beach. The house is in a quiet neighborhood and we felt very safe. Erin came by to check on us and was very sweet and offered any help needed during our stay. We saw lots of wildlife in the area such as monkeys, iguanas, and our own house guest, the coati which was very entertaining! The 4 wheelers came in handy to travel to other beaches, such as Carillo and Islita. Beautiful beaches, great people and food! Pura Vida!!

This gets a rating of 2.5 for us. Ok but not great

  • 2 of 5

The house is nice, but has many ussues. Erin the owner was quick to respond & friendly. This house should be billed as a true “Tico” experience! The wildlife, howler monkeys & birds, right outside your front door is a true highlight to this house. We took several walks in the morning to the beach or to Monkeys for coffee & pan. On the first night we went to cook dinner & there was no propane for the stove. Erin got someone to bring us more & we were able to cook. The third bedroom is detached from the house with its own bathroom. The shower in there is electric & our daughter was shocked by water coming out of the shower head & there was no shower curtain. Erin offered to bring us one, but we opted to have her shower inside. The A/C unit in the front bedroom is not working to full capacity, but this wasn’t a bother for us. The screen door to the backyard is bent & doesn’t close/operate properly. We feel if the owners would make it unavailable for a few days & give it much TLC, it would be an easy 4 star rating. There should also be a book on how to operate the showers & other things in the house.

Disappointing, not what we expected

  • 2 of 5

My husband and I stayed 5 nights, very disappointing, not what we expected. Description and reviews make it seem secluded and private. It’s not. There are houses very close on 3 sides, roofs of the houses touch each other and easy to see into other yards.

There were many needed repairs. We’re not sure if everything truly was damaged by recent renters as we were told or if the house is just not well maintained.

Patio screen door was broken. The frame was bent - hard to open and close. When closed at the bottom there was a 2 inch gap at the top. We couldn’t have the glass door open in the evening to cool off the non air-conditioned main room due to bugs coming in. We were told a previous renter ran through the screen and damaged it, and the custom frame required a trip to San Jose to order and couldn’t be fixed until after we left.

The kitchen window screen had 2 holes. We were told the screen had been replaced the prior week. The repair person supposedly came by while we were out, but it was not fixed.

Pool was smaller than pictured and cloudy the first 1.5 days. Erin actually pointed this out, pool person had treated it. It gradually improved.

Two of the ground lights around pool were missing. We were told replacements were ordered, but wouldn’t be there until after we left.

The pool sweep was broken and the skimmer part had a broken frame. We were told they would get a new one Thursday in San Jose, however, it was not there when we left Saturday.

Air conditioner in 1 bedroom didn’t cool the room. Erin offered to have someone look at it, we asked her to wait until we left as we didn’t want a repair person to interrupt our stay.

The pictured hammock was not there when we arrived. When I mentioned to Erin, she said a previous renter damaged it and it was being repaired. She checked on it and brought it over that afternoon.

4 of 5 nights, we were woken up by a very loud animal jumping and running on the roof.

We didn’t have water most of 1st day due to a water main break. It went out at 1:30pm and was still out when we went to bed at 10:30. Full water pressure wasn’t back until 3rd day. Erin brought us 2 jugs of water.

Pool chairs are not as pictured. Chairs with black frames get VERY hot in the sun.

Overall, too many issue to give anything higher than a 2. I hope they make the repairs and show photos of them. On the good side, Erin was really nice and wanted to help out.

Nice place near the beach!

  • 4 of 5

We had a great stay at Casa Ventura - nice location a short drive to town (Sámara) and a few beaches. The pool was great after spending the morning at the beach. The house was adequately equipped for cooking meals, WiFi was decent and beds were comfy. Thanks Erin!

Little paradise

  • 4 of 5

The 6 of us (including 3 children <5 y-o) stayed 9 days in Casa Ventura and we had a great time there. Erin was really helpful and quick to respond to our requests. The pool is a must to cool down in the afternoon. There are many beaches near but we always took the car to go because it was a long walk on a dusty road with the kids. Samara is a nice village and the beach there is very nice for the kids. We also liked very much Playa Carrillo (10 minutes drive) and Playa Barrigona (sooooo beautiful, about 20 minutes drive) I would strongly recommend casa ventura for a family. Thanks Erin!!!
