Overview

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday apartment in Galway

The visitors of the Ballynahinch Estate, in the heart of Connemara, leave with the promise to come back. The Old Manor dominates the famous Ballynahinch Lake in a site steeped in history. Originally, these grounds belonged to the O'Flaherty’s sept, Lords of Connaught. Major figures have succeeded at the Estate’s head like Grace O'Malley at the 15th century (the Queen of Pirate of Connaught), Richard 'Humanity Dick' Martin at the 18th century and the Maharadjah Ranjitsinji at the beginning of the 19th century. At the beginning of the 18eth century, a castle was constructed by the Martin on the estate of Ballynahinch. Later, it was transformed in barracks and became the estate’s employee’s house under the Maharadjah. Henceforth restored, the Old Manor offers the opportunity to rent a 4 stars three-floor apartment. The totality is spacious and grouped around a courtyard with view of the lake, the Twelve Pins relief and the forest.

Absolutely Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

We spent three weeks in Ireland and Connemara was our favorite part of the trip--in no small part because of the accommodation at the Old Manor. We have rented houses, villas and apartments all over the world, including 15+ trips to Europe. Apartment #2 has everything you could want and more. In all our travels we have never seen a washer and a separate dryer in any place we have stayed. Usually it's either wash it and hang it out, or wash it and dry it in the same appliance, a task which takes hours and leaves your clothes damp. Apartment #2 has not only a drip coffee maker and an electric kettle to heat the water, but also a real American coffee maker. But the most amazing thing--a food disposer in the kitchen sink--pretty much unheard of in Europe! So all the conveniences of home. Add to that a beautiful fireplace surrounded by comfortable sofas and chairs, a well equipped kitchen (Nicholas Mosse cups are a rare luxury with your morning coffee!), comfortable beds, a wonderful book case full of volumes and volumes of fascinating and beautiful books--mostly about Ireland and the area, an enclosed courtyard just outside your back door, and cows grazing in the meadow next door. It's idyllic.

There are only two things on Lough Ballynahinch--the Old Manor and the Ballynahinch Castle, now a luxury hotel. So in the evening, we strolled around the Lough to the castle to have a drink in the bar. The path is storybook--shamrocks and moss and rhododendrens blooming--even a little waterfall.

Jean-Paul, the caretaker, is charming, very helpful and French! So, all in all, the ultimate host.

Live like a king--go to Connemara and rent this lovely place. Connemara is magical and this apartment is perfect!
