About Joanna Vaughan

Hi - I'm a single mum with a passion for Slovenia, its culture and people. I don't get over to the apartment as much as I would like but I relish every moment I can get there, and hope that my visitors do the same.

Joanna Vaughan purchased this apartment in 2007

Why Joanna Vaughan chose Kranjska Gora

It's a historic-looking building with modern facilties. It's close to many tourist spots including Bled and Kranjska Gora, and is perfect in the summer and winter for sightseeing and skiing.

What makes this apartment unique

It has everything - summer and winter appeal - and it's fantastically equipped as if it were a family home.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a wonderful holiday in Slovenia and your beautiful apartment certainly added to the experience. I think my wife was quite smitten with the country and I can foresee a return trip at some point. Mr & Mrs Mulhall

Had a fantastic time at your apartment. A really lovely house to come back to after a hard days (and nights) skiing. The boys had a wonderful time on the slopes at K.Gora and came back to a play station ! can it get any better? Thanks for all your help and advice. Our best family skiing holiday yet. The Rawkins family

The apartment was perfect for us & we made good use of the cool bag & walking book. We also went rafting, cycling, & my husband & 2 daughters went canyoning, paragliding, horse-riding, canoeing & swam in the lakes.

We're all exhausted now! Once again, like to thank you for the loan of your love. Patchling family

Its a beautiful country and your apartment was so well equipped and organised, it really made our stay so enjoyable. The O'Reilly family

Great place

  • 5 of 5

Lovely little apparent with local charm.

We had a couple of minor issues on the first day but the owner was very helpful and they were sorted out quickly . Other than that we had a great stay in a lovely little village. Only drawback was that they didn't open the local ski slope during the day.

Clean appartment in beautiful place

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay in this clean appartment. The location was very good for all our trips - Bled, Bohinj, Vintgar, Vršič. Also the host was very nice and kind and waited for us even though we arrived late. Highly recommended. The only cons is weak wifi.

Clean, well equipped, quiet.

  • 5 of 5

We are from the USA and this was our first time in Slovenia. We very much enjoyed our stay and Jody's place was perfect for the two of us. Clean, well equipped, in a quiet village, and central to Bled and the National Park. We would recommend this to anyone wanting to spend time in Mojstrana and the surrounding region.

A tri-level home from home with views of the Julian Alps

  • 5 of 5

The Apartment is spacious and with three levels - dining/kitchen, lounge and 2 bedrooms. As a family, we welcomed the extra space and some extra fitness from climbing the stairs.

We didn't know much about Mojstrana before arriving - but it proved to be the perfect place for a mid-winter stay. Mojstrana is easy to walk around, but has a bakery, supermarket and tourist info. The ice rink and ski slope are within walking distance and there are three rugged valleys leading to Triglav that can be driven, then hiked or skied from the village - depending on conditions. Kranjska Gora ski complex is less than 20 minutes away.

The breathtaking drive over Vršič Pass was our entry to mojstrana - we very lucky because it is normally closed in winter but the snowfall was late. It came the next day and the village and surrounding mountains were transformed to a wonderland. But the local snow plough was on the job daily and kept the roads open.

The managers who greeted us at the apartment were friendly, informative and generous.

We risked Mojstrana as the longest stay anywhere during our vacation, and it could have been too long, but we filled every day and would gladly have been there another week.

Capodanno con gli amici

  • 5 of 5

Appartamento tenuto molto bene, pulito, accessoriato di tutto (libri, cd musicali, film video, playstation, radio, ecc..). A Mojstrana c'è un market e un bar/pizzeria. Vicinissimo a kranjska gora. Ottimo per trascorrere un periodo invernale o estivo in relax.

Lovely chalet, great location

  • 5 of 5

We spent 10 days at the lovely Apartment Murena in July 2011. The apartment was modern and nicely decorated, with everything in good working order, arranged over 3 floors. The kitchen and bathroom were well stocked, and the beds/sofas were comfortable.

The village itself was lovely; in a stunning location, with beautiful views from the apartment in all directions. There were good facilities in Mojstrana, including a supermarket, several restaurants and bicycle hire. It is also a starting point for the 2 day hike up to the top of Triglav, the highest mountain in Slovenia.

The best thing about the apartment was that it was in an extremely convenient location for exploring the Julian Alps. Kranjska Gora and Bled are within a 20 minute drive, and Bohinj/Bovec only an hour away. It was also only a 45 minute drive from the airport.

The only downside about the apartment is that the stairs, particularly up to the top floor are extremely steep. Though there are stair guards for very young children, I wouldn't take any children there myself if they were under about 8, but old enough to open the stair guards, in case they fell down them. They would also be too steep for anybody with problematic arthritis or similar. It was a tough job getting up there after a long day's walk! It is also worth noting that the two bedrooms have no doors between them, only curtains, so it would be possible to hear everything.

All in all, it was an excellent holiday in a great location, and we would love to return one day.

Car: recommended

Mojstrana is in the heart of the Slovenian Julian Alps, just a few miles from both the Italian and Austrian borders. It is surrounded by rocky peaks, making this a perfect spot for a winter ski holiday or a summer hiking trip. Alternatively, you can laze on the beaches at Lake Bled and Lake Bohinj, and other sports facilities such as tennis courts and football pitches are on your doorstep. Although Mojstrana has its own beginners ski slopes, experienced skiers can make the most of the major resort of Kranjska Gora which is just a 10 minute car ride away (public transport is also an option). Literally a few minutes walk away from the apartment is the Triglav National Park's border, and carry on along the road and you'll be transversing the gloriously scenic Vrata Valley.

On a more practical not, Mojstrana has its own tourist information centre, post office and supermarket, as well as bars and places to eat and drink. The local pizzeria is particularly popular.

Other Activities: Every summer and winter sport you can think of, and some you wouldn't imagine. And don't forget the sport of pizza eating!

Golf: At the confluence of the Pisnica and the Sava rivers in Kranjska Gora, a new golf course is being built. So far only three holes, a driving range and a putting green are open, but a further nine holes are planned in due course. This will be only a very short drive from the apartment

Ski: There are various ski resorts nearby, but the biggest is the Slovenia's most popular - Kranjska-Gora. This has numerous runs suitable for all abilities. There's also a small ski slope, as well as an ice rink in Mojstrana with easy walking distance of the apartment.
