The cottage is a tranquil getaway surrounded by Amish farmland with an Amish schoolhouse across the road. You will see our Amish neighbors walking, pushing scooters or riding in their buggies using the farm lane directly beside the cottage. You look out over our garden and flower beds and a lovely back yard you are welcome and sit and relax in. The grounds are also home to our six active children, one overly friendly dog and a beautiful cat.
We are just minutes away from many local attractions. The town of Intercourse is famous for Kitchen Kettle Village and horse and buggy rides. Also close to Rockvale Square and Tanger Outlets along with Strasburg Railroad, Dutch Wonderland Amusement Park, Sight and Sound Theater and so much more. We are within a few miles of famous Amish cooking restaurants such as Bird In Hand Family Restaurant, Miller’s Smorgasbord, Dienner’s Country Restaurant and Katie’s Kitchen.
The Cottage holds a queen size bed (with an amazing mattress). The mini kitchenette contains dorm size refrigerator, microwave, and coffee pot. The bathroom in addition to a shower includes a whirlpool. The Cottage is fully furnished with high thread count sheets and plush white towels. It is also stocked with dishes and coffee. There is AC and wireless internet but no TV. There are several skylights in the cottage creating a beautiful atmosphere of space and lighting.
You may arrive anytime after 4 pm on the day of your arrival. There is no need to officially 'check in', the Cottage will be unlocked with key inside. We ask that you depart by 11 AM on your check-out day. If you desire earlier arrival or later check-out, please ask as depending on availability (cleaning time requirements between bookings) we will be happy to accommodate.
If your traveling with another couple, we have another accommodation called The Loft on this same property with VRBO #729114.
Please ask any questions you may have.
Lovely quaint cottage. Quiet peaceful setting. Woke to birds singing and sound of horses clip clopping down the road. Whirlpool tub was wonderful. Very clean. Only complaint is that cottage got a bit stuffy. Overhead fan made loud clicking noise.
The cottage was beautiful and very clean. We love staying among the Amish. We would come back.
the cottage was very comfortable and nestled among the farmlands and small farm stands. Cottage was centrally located near shops, tours and great restaurants. We took two different tours of the Amish houses and farms and rode in horse drawn buggy. Ben, our driver was very knowledgeable and even invited us back to his Amish home where Emma cooked us a home cooked meal using ingredients from their garden and orchards. You cannot miss Millers Buffet for lunch or dinner. The Waterside Restaurant located on the River was enjoyable and the food exceptional! Razzberry, the family pet at the Cozy Cabin always greeted us when we came home and is a very sweet dog. We purchased some home grown vegetables from the local farms and took home a pumpkin. Such an enjoyable time, quiet and relaxing but plenty to do if you want to keep busy. Would recommend a stay at the cottage.
What a lovely, tranquil place in the middle of my idea of heaven.
The pictures of the cottage are right on, very quaint, with special little touches. Lucky us, the morning glories on the side were in bloom.
So peaceful to sit outside and watch the Amish children as they g oup and down the lane to school and to check on their little farmstand at the end of the drive.
Lucky timing for us, the Mennonite Church on the corner was having a fundraiser weekend. We were able to experience an authentic down home auction and all the excitement that goes with it.
Close to Bird in Hand and Intercourse, although it feels as if you are in the middle of nowhere.
The only disappointments was the wifi (it worked, but not great) and there was no table/desk to sit at.
Would I go back? You betcha!
The owner is super nice, and her dog is to die for. This piece of heaven is definitely worth staying and is highly recommended for those who want a nice one on one with your significant other. We had such a blast in Lancaster, but the cottage was what made our trip worth while!!!
After several trips to the Lancaster area, staying in various hotels, motels, and/or inns, we were incredibly blessed to have had the opportunity to stay in this cottage for our 10th wedding anniversary. There was no comparison, as this far surpassed every other place we've ever stayed. Resorts just can't offer what this cottage and its location does. Sharon was wonderful to work with, going above and beyond to help make this occasion special for us. The added touch with fresh roses, fresh sunflowers, and quality chocolates were greatly appreciated, and shows what these hosts do to give personal attention. A nice variety of teas and coffee (Kuerig) as well as creamers were stocked in the cupboard along with a small box of chocolate-covered cookies. Hotel amenities were also supplied: plenty of bath and hand towels, washcloths, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and even bath salts! (Loved using the salts in the jetted garden tub!) As I mentioned, she really goes above and beyond. She was very easy to communicate with throughout the reservation process as well as during our stay.
The cottage was the perfect size for the two of us and was very clean. The AC unit and ceiling fan kept the temperature very comfortable. I loved the touches of Amish decor which even included two very well-done drawings (done by someone in the hosts' family) of Amish children. Another find in the home was a small selection of books, one in which Sharon wrote about her life journey. What an incredible testimony of how she put her trust in God through what would likely be one of the most difficult times in any person's life. (You'll have to stay at the cottage to see/get the book for yourself. :-) )
One of the things we liked best about the cottage location was that you could often hear (and see) the clip clop of the horse-drawn carriages from the neighboring Amish families. We loved sitting outside on the Adirondack chairs watching the Amish work in the fields, the children riding on their scooters, etc. The location was also so close to the heart of Lancaster, and only minutes away from several restaurants/smorgasbords, farmers market, shopping, the Doll Factory, a Mennonite church, and the Sight and Sound theater, yet tucked away in the country where you don't see a single bit of commercialism.
So for anyone looking for a place to stay in the heart of Amish country, this is more than perfect. You won't be disappointed. I can't wait for our next trip. No more hotels!
