Portuguese, born in Lisbon, I find life here very diverse. Lisbon enchants me; the light, the sea and the beach. The cultural events are multiple and with an enormous quality.
Madalena Zaki purchased this apartment in 2013
Lisbon is a historic capital, a cosmopolitan with character and charm out of the ordinary, where 800 years of diverse cultural influences mingle with the latest trends and current lifestyles, creating truly spectacular contrasts. Along the Tagus, Bethlehem is the Lisbon neighborhood more representative of the Portuguese Discoveries. The big step of Portuguese expansion was achieved in 1498 when Vasco da Gama (Mosteiro dos Jeronimos) discovered the sea route to India. So it was the beginning of the Golden Age of Lisbon, characterized by the Manueline style, created by the monarch of the time, Dom Manuel I and decorated marine motifs. Lisbon has grown throughout the centuries and changed naturally. At the beginning of the Age of Discoveries, Lisbon was expanded, becoming an important center for trade in jewelry and spices (Commerce Square). Later, when the city was destroyed by the Earthquake of 1755, the Marquis of Pombal (tomb in the church's Memorial) was responsible for the rebuilding; creating the 'Pombaline' neighborhood trader that still retains much of its original layout. At this time the King has changed his residence to the Ajuda Palace, which is located in a side street to the apartment. The light in Bethlehem is incredible, as indeed in most of the city, because the Portuguese pavement. This is a Lisbon area where many people spend their leisure time: dining and sunbathing, resting or playing sports or cultural activities. Although Bethlehem has a lot of visiting, the apartment is located in a quiet residential area. In front of the building there is a free park to park the car.
The apartment has beautiful views over the Tagus in a key area in the history of Portuguese maritime discoveries. Near the center of Lisbon, and with great transport links, the apartment is located in a residential area calm. Also close to beaches and places where you can soak up the sun or taste a coffee, a glass of wine, fish or 'pastel de nata'. Tropical garden next door.
The apartment is located in Belém, the most pleasant area of Lisbon, and it has a lovely view to the river and the bridge. It's within a short walk from the Jerônimos Monastery, the two Botanical gardens, the Belém Cultural centre, two supermarkets, and many excellent restaurants. The apartment is very pleasant and comfortable, well decorated and well equipped , and quiet! Madalena was a wonderful host, answering quickly and reliably my emails and questions. I will recommend this apartment to my all my friends who visit Lisbon!
I happen to live near Lisbon, but I was looking for a place to host some friends visiting Portugal for a week that would be much closer to the city center as well as central to some of the towns we would be visiting like Cascais and Sintra. Belém was the ideal location! I choose the apartment because it looked newly renovated, clean, and tastefully furnished from the pictures. It turned out to be all that and more. One does have to go up 2 flights of stairs, which didn't bother us a bit, and one is greeted by a very cozy and clean apartment with new kitchen appliances and everything one would need for a small group of travelers. We did have a car, and parking in front of the building was never a problem. Madelena was an absolute joy to meet, and super helpful in making sure our stay was perfect... Obrigado por tudo, Madalena!!
Downtown Lisbon is about 10min by tram/eléctrico (15E) ...and there is also a bus stops right around the corner from the apartment. Both Sintra and Cascais are about 25 min away by car. (unless you take the longer, scenic coastal road) Finally, the small town of Belém itself is beautiful with so much to see and do... it was less than a 7min walk down the hill to the town center. The town is a perfect home base to visit sites in and around Lisbon in my opinion, and I would highly recommend this very clean Belém apartment with views of the Tejo river!

Danielle. Thérèse et Maryse.
The apartment is only a few minutes walking-distance from Império square which is full of great tourist attractions. You can reach the apartment very easily by bus or train. There is a supermarket 800 m away and many restaurants with great seafood can be found along the river (900 m).
In Império square you can find the Jerónimos monastery, Belém Cultural Center, Marine Museum, Gulbenkian Planetarium, Tropical and Botanical Garden and, of course, the famous Pastéis de Belém that since 1837, have had the most beloved traditional custard egg tarts in Lisbon. Also nearby are the Ajuda Palace, the Belém Palace, and also the Belém tower and the Electricity museum by the river.
Within a 30 min walk along the river, full of restaurants and activities, you can reach Lisbon's historical center: Downtown (public transports are available in Império square, a 5 min walk from the apartment). Sightseeing suggestions and a list of restaurants and supermarkets in the area are available. All the support you need to enjoy Lisbon is provided.
