We had been coming to Duck for almost two decades to vacation. Each time we were here we would fantasize about owning a little something of this wonderful island to enjoy whenever we could. Finally, we took the plunge and now own Dune Nest, WaveHi! and Dolphin Dawn (all in the same lovely Colony by the Sea). Dune Nest is just the right size and is our little place to escape to when the pressures of real life get to us. We hope you too will find that peace of mind and sense of rejuvenation that we get each time we come back to Duck. We look forward to sharing it with you! We hope you will select Dune Nest as your vacation rental and help us with providing great reviews to share with future vacationers.
Mike and Mary Hayward purchased this condo in 2015
Dune Nest is located right on the ocean on one of the most beautiful east coast beaches in the U.S. It has the best view for year round beach front enjoyment! Spectacular sunrises and moonrises greet you daily! We have worked hard to provide a comfortable place to relax with many details we enjoy for our own comfort and wind down time. The town of Duck is a very walkable, quaint coastal village with super friendly folk and wonderful shopping, dining and many fun things to do. You can rent kayaks, canoes, bikes, tandem bikes, etc., to enjoy the many water activities Duck has to offer. Take yoga classes on the Duck green in the summer or in the winter practice yoga at Village Yoga. We love it here and come all the time.
All year round our favorite thing about Dune Nest is the oceanfront location and view. When you step out on the deck the sight and sound of the waves is the most magical thing in the world. Lounging on the deck we enjoy watching the sunrise, seeing the dolphins play and pelicans fly by while sipping our coffee. Evenings bring the colors of the sunset across the eastern Atlantic sky and moon rises that are spectacular. It's a great backdrop for a glass of wine to wind down from a day of total relaxation. Perfect.
Fall and winter is also a spectacular time in the Outer Banks. Less visitors mean the pace is slower, quieter and often you can go for long walks on the beach without seeing anyone else. The weather is beautiful and cool with plenty of opportunity to enjoy the heat of the summer still radiating in the ocean and pool. We swam in the Atlantic in mid-October last year and it was great! In addition fishing is great with piers and surf offering you many opportunities to bring home dinner to cook up in Dune Nest's fully fitted kitchen. Don't forget if you are a golfer, there are many courses nearby and you don't even have to have a tee time -- most of the time! For us shoppers, its those 'end of the season' sales that keep me excited and of course all of these activities help you work up an appetite for the many good restaurants that Duck and the nearby towns have open. No reservations needed! As the weather changes it never ceases to amaze us how there are so many more shells on the beach in the fall and winter. You will see evidence of our finds in Dune Nest! We look forward to seeing you anytime of the year!
This apartment really looks directly onto the beach and I enjoyed sitting at the balcony for breakfast listening to the waves. Going down to the beach is less than 5 minutes! The apartment is neat and modern nothing left to be asked for (except some sharp kitchen knives.)
We were there in the winter and the complex was very quiet which was very nice. Never have been to the area in summer, but wonder if this is a party area as there were many restrictions: No linnens/towels - one could rent them via a 3rd party and that worked fine - but I would prefer to pay 20 bucks more and save the hassle. Detailed list of what to do at check out - nothing unreasonable leaving the pillows arranged, vacuum etc. And a deposit that was promptly paid back. All in all it made me feel that the owners expected the worst from their guests. Still a really nice apartment in a really nice location.
Being there in the off season, with perfect weather, we were able to bike through Duck daily, tour the area sites, and relax on the deck to see the sunrise and the stars. This home is well stocked and comfortably laid out for the feeling of being at home. We are thankful for our time there!
Excellent quality and maintenance of property. This is one of the rare times I haven't had to call about a problem at check in. The pool was great. I wish a hot tub was available in the complex. Very happy with our stay.
This was a wonderful condo, just the right size for 2 parents and a couple of kids. I thought it might be inconvenient having to go downstairs to do laundry but it was very easy and never crowded. Our son absolutely loved the pool. The condo was peaceful and cool and our time spent on the small deck listening to the waves and watching the full harvest moon rise was our favorite part of the trip. Our only challenge was that we have a two year old who had never taken a shower, only a bath. I underestimated how scared he would be taking a shower. I would definitely recommend this condo for a family, but not anyone young enough that they need to have a bath tub. I would rent this again, especially after my son becomes more comfortable taking showers.
The condo was very clean and the view was so calming. I sat on the balcony for hours just staring at the ocean and reflecting upon life. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils and pots etc. The place was extremely clean and warmly decorated.
I recommend the Coastal Cravings restaurant for food. They give good portions and were a fair price, unlike Blue Point which charged more but gave only very little (we went to Coastal Cravings after eating at Blue Point). Although if you want to get a good sunset view of the inner sea, Blue Point has a very nice set up for that.
I never contacted the owner during my stay because I was too busy relaxing. And also there was nothing to complain or inquire about since the instructions sent by email was helpful and complete.
Next summer I will try to book for at least a week at this same place.
We had a great time, this was our second time to Duck, NC and second time staying at Dunes Nest. The condo is very well furnished with all of the essential pots, pans, silverware, plates, cookware etc. you could need. The condo is well maintained and clean. It is a perfect location on the 1st floor of Building D with a great view of the ocean. The owners Mike and Mary are very helpful and willing to assist you. If we plan to return next year this will be our first choice if staying in Duck.
Our condo is located in the much sought after area of Duck, Outer Banks North Carolina. The village of Duck is quaint, beautiful and welcoming with wonderful local unique shops, cozy cafes, grocery stores, delicious restaurants and water sports entertainment. Bike and walker friendly, Duck also has a unique sound side coastal boardwalk that provides great bird watching over the Sound and beautiful sunset vistas, dining, shopping, and dog-walking. Kayakers float by adding to the scenery. Great for families and couples who wish to walk around Duck after a fantastic day on the beach. Don't forget yoga on the Duck Green in the summer season and in the winter yoga at Duck's Village Yoga studio.
For car trips and sight seeing during rainy days or in the Fall and Winter, you are spoiled for choices: lighthouses, NC aquarium in Manteo, Jeannette's pier, shopping, great eating, and a must visit to Jockey's Ridge, the east coast's largest sand dune and site of the Wright brothers first flight! Visit the Wright Brothers national monument and museum nearby and learn about our country's aviation history and first flight. Head north to Corolla for tours to visit the wild banker ponies, protected and wild. Go south for some outlet shopping at Milepost 16 or further south to visit Manteo or coastal light houses. So much to do!
