We have a 2 bedroom, 2 bath house that will sleep 8. We have satellite TV and a PS2 with a decent selection of games. A DVD player is also included. There is a washer and dryer available for your use. We have a full kitchen with small appliances for your use. A huge deck and fire pit to enjoy the sunsets. We are close to town and easy driving distance to many ski resorts, hiking, biking trails.
We live in Denver and we are looking to rent our retirement home while we move to our retirement years.
Norman Shaw purchased this chalet in 1995
This is a great place to vacation. Not to cold, not to warm, just perfect year round.
We are close to anything outside you want to do.
We were really happy with the cabin, and it was the perfect distance from Monarch with also being close to downtown Salida. I didn't give it 5 stars because the beds are super uncomfortable and I don't see how you could sleep 12. We were hard pressed to sleep 6 adults and 3 kids, and that was with 3 in a bed. The owner was very easy to work with and even left us a BOGO coupon to ski at Monarch! Get some new mattresses and advertise as sleeps 6 comfortably and I would give 5+ stars happily.
What a great place to stay, great views great accommodations and close to everything in Salida. Beds were comfortable, kitchen had everything we needed and the cabin was very comfortable. Can't wait to go back.
Exactly what we had hoped for. Just a few miles from town, but spectacular view from the living area and deck. Half hour to Monarch. The owner is very responsive, most of the time immediately to any questions about the area or things to do, or the property itself. We are going to make this place a regular get away for our family. We love it!
This cabin was perfect for our trip. It was not in the hub-bub of town, yet just minutes from shopping. On top of that Salida was the central position for all our plans. The cabin was beautiful, clean and very welcoming. We would definitely recommend it to others.
We had a great time. The cabin is in a nice location. Quiet neighborhood. Norman was always accessible and helpful! There are lots of things to do in the Salida/Buena Vista area. We zip lined and rafted Brown's Cabin.
This cabin was perfect for me, my two boys and my mom and her husband. The bedroom with the bunk-bed and queen size bed and a bath across the hall for the 3 of us and the king size bed in the loft with a private bath worked great for them. The place is clean and tidy with plenty of room to stretch out. The large windows let in all the sunshine, breeze and picturesque scenery. The deck has a table and chairs and a hammock to sit out and enjoy the panoramic mountain view. Just about anything you would want in the kitchen: it's there.
The cabin does not have air conditioning, but weather conditions for our trip were perfect for opening the windows.
There are some games and cards in the closet, plenty of maps and some books. There is a TV - we didn't turn it on, so I can't say about reception/choices.
The cabin is set well off the main road in a spread-out, neighborhood type setting. It was quiet and peaceful. If you like to get out for a walk or run you will not have an issue with vehicles and there is plenty of mileage without leaving the neighborhood. The town of Salida is only a few minutes away. The local Safeway store is small, but don't let that fool you - they have a good variety of items and many organic choices too.
Our time was spent doing many of the nearby activities - white water rafting, hiking, the ghost town of St. Elmo, a gondola ride up Monarch Pass - all 15-45 minutes away. The town did a nice fireworks display for July 4th that was easily seen from the cabin so that's an extra treat if your trip takes you there at that time.
And if I didn't mention the star-gazing you can do from the deck, I would be doing you a dis-favor! We set our alarms for the middle of the night to find all the constellations on the charts and the Milky Way.
I will definitely recommend Norman's cabin to anyone I know headed out to this part of Colorado. And if my travels take me back to this area, I will stay again!
Local Breweries, wineries, exploring, Great Sand Dunes, skiing. This is a year round playground. Monarch Mountain gets 400 plus inches of snow a year. Amazing jeep trails, single track and jeep roads to be ridden by mountain bike or dirt bike. Salida offers something to do every weekend. You will always be able to find something to do.
